My apologies for the long months without an update.....So here's a mix of clips from Sunniside and Eggleston....its not much but I hope you get some interest or at the least some amusement from them. All is much as we left it last time, just that winter is creeping up on us and i've not the bones for cold weather these days. I am looking at something interesting or new to say in the future but its difficult as I've just about said it all....and the technical stuff doesn't seem as popular as the waffle...but then popularity has never been an ambition or i'd take the advice of all these social media specialists forever offering to make me all neat, smiley and enthusiastic....Apparently I need to look and sound less "morose".....I had to look up what that meant!
Regardless....I hope everyone is well despite the worlds problems.
Best wishes.....Malcolm

Hi Malcolm, welcome back. Dangerous thinking to much, especially in retirement. As a long retired person myself, I can say it takes time to adjust. You have to do something to take your mind off thinking too much. It is an art in it’s self. To fight off depression- you have to keep busy at what your good at. Gardening for us plebs is a chore but for those like yourself with the knowledge, it must be heaven. For myself, I do a lot of travelling to get past deep thinking. I will continue as long as my health allows. More videos please.!

Hello Malcolm, thank you for the long awaited video. I am sure you know you have a big bunch of people appreciating you and waiting to hear from you. Hoping to hear from you soon! Living in USA for the past 30 years, I rarely hear anyone referring to pants as trousers, but having said that if you are purchasing suit pants they are still are referred to as trousers, same goes for women’s suit pants. I love your visits with Amanda. She has a such a good personality… warm wishes to all of you…

So glad you are back! Between amazing ship building, more amazing turning, fixing your garden, helping at Eggleston, cooking up tasty dinners, making the best videos ever, etc, how do you find time to look at that clock?! Thanks for coming back. There were no redheads in the Bronx where I grew up so dating one was never an issue. Fanny here is your tuchus, butt, or keester, dunno why.Nobody EVER says trousers, it’s always pants. Underneath we wear underwear, girls wear panties and guys wear boxers or briefs. Be careful where you come to in USA, Amanda, as many places are experiencing record crime. You all give us a reason to smile, 💚💚💚

From a person with BiPolar..... Depression for the majority of people is a normal part of life... grieving the loss of one part of your life is a way to transition into a new part of your life and I'm sure you will get there.... particularly with people just checking in that you are OK. I love your garden! I love your humour! And I enjoy your videos.... your instructional videos are brilliant, you have a mountain of knowledge to get out to the public. Lol @ properly Ginger.... in Australia we call em Rangers... which is slang for Red Head... My garden is in a new build in a sub tropical climate, it is only 18 months old and I've learnt so much watching gardeners like this on youtube.... my blessing is plants and trees grow ten fold in the subtropics but my down side is I've got a septic system to work around....

Really enjoyed the film, thank you ! From a strawberry blonde with a ginger ninja son and grandson I can confirm we should be a protected minority….I have lots of uncles, aunts and cousins but no one else has our hair colour in the family , the equivalent of a sport in the plant world I guess. Sorry to hear you have been feeling down, my husband gave his all to his job then felt completely adrift when he retired. Nowadays he’s fine, he enjoys shopping and cooking and reading , never been one for hobbies. Leaves me free to spend all my time in the garden which seems like a perfect balance. Thanks for putting all the plant names up, I shall watch again and make some notes…

Great to see you back Malcom and you’ve been missed that’s for sure 😊 As a ginger, (strawberry blonde) I’ve never had any problems with having any relationships 🤷‍♂️ and a few people I’ve mentioned it too there don’t have an issue with hair colour, maybe some folk are more open than others? It is funny that you mention seeding a lawn rather than turf. Like you I prefer to sow a new lawn from scratch as in personal opinion you can always clean the soil so no weeds will pop up in the new lawn. John

I am in France Charente region and I have a lot of space but the soil does not allow me to have beautiful plants that develop! the limestone and the mother rock do not keep the necessary freshness in summer! moreover the heat wave has damaged my garden a lot but I persist with amendments and the displacement of certain plants! thank you again for sharing your videos friendly Claude

Yep, it's hard when you first retire. The fact you don't have to don work clothes if you don't want to and no wage coming in, rushing round of a morning etc, etc. To get passed that stage I used to make it a work day, eg up early, breakfast and then make myself go out whatever the weather and do some work in the garden, garage, shed. Now, I don't have enough hours in the day to get everything done. Love it. Glad to see you back. We need you. 👍👍👍

Hello from New Zealand. Great video - nearly summer here. Your garden pond area is very cool. Laughed about the ginger men - you are correct, it's not right to make gingers the subject of jokes - however I use to be bombarded with blonde jokes hahaha Your dogs are super cute. Your garden knocks my socks off - thanks for sharing it and really good to see you on the screen again. Looking forward to more videos. Any thoughts on whether weather patterns really are different from the past? After all the weather is a genuinely chaotic system. I garden in Buckinghamshire and I’ve been surprised every few years for nearly 4 decades, whether it’s snow in May or hot sun in February. But we always get some frost in the 1st week of November.

Wonderful update Malcolm. The garden is looking amazing & the pond is a picture, enjoy the fruits of your retirement Labour. The long hot summer has made plants fruit & seed like mad. omg, please don't take the advice given by social media experts.... all the youtube channels are starting to sound and look the same; but not you. Glad to have you back, retirement is an adjustment for sure. Perhaps, you could volunteer somewhere? Find a place that has a pitiful little garden, and remodel it? Or do a gardening workshop at a school? teach the little ones how to plant things? My grandfather retired at 60, then went right back to work within a few months, only part time, but grandma was not happy about it, lol He just couldn't stand having that much time on his hands; he grew up on a farm, and worked hard all of his life, he just couldn't tolerate being idle. You'll find your way. Oh, I'm American, so: knickers are called underpants mostly, or underwear, some women call their underpants "panties", I particularly hate that. If you don't wear underpants, it's called going commando, no clue why. Some older people still call pants trousers (like seriously older people, one foot in the grave basically), but mostly we call them pants. I will avoid the last part of your and Amanda's conversation; please tell her, her hair looks fabulous. Really missed your curmudgeonly ways. You have stories no one else can tell, knowledge no one else has from your vantage point. You're a treasure Malcolm, that's why we are all here; you just thought it was because we're all daft, didn't you? roflmao. Take care, be well.

Dear Malcom, 'you know what they say - Life's a bitch' but - in that in your delightful Done it Yourself garden, you'll be OK. You did rather overdo the hard graft, but a garden is never finished. Colour? My late brother was as vibrantly ginger as ever made - and my father. If somebody is black, they're certainly not pink, it's all baloney. Best wishes, love your garden..

Why whine or be depressed about retirement.? It's just a transition. I recommend it to all who will listen.. it's fun to do what you want to do rather than what someone else wants you to do...

From Tessas´ Dad Am looking for "Free information. You referenced the 16 C night time temperatures.(April/early may temperatures) I get that the days are shorter, and that light intensity (in full sun) are 5-6-or 7 times less than April My Question, do you know any references, text books or papers on the subject of light intensity (lumens and/or watts/sq yard) The only info I can find is sunlight/length of day, so is not an equal comparison. Any help from anyone will be of help. Maybe Malcolm you could do it as part of next years "tutorials" if this is in your sphere Great to see you back Keep both chins up Bill.

Bill…..I really don’t know of a specific book on the subject. I suspect you are more likely to find information through scientific journals…..or establishments such as Rothamsted (where I spent 10 years and met my wife)…….however….and I say this through experience of needing information on the subject when growing the crop legally for research, the matter is dealt with online pretty well by cannabis growers, where light in bud development if pretty crucial. Sorry I can’t be of more help other than a basic knowledge……which I will put in a video in spring with an explanation as best I can. Best wishes….Malcolm

Apparently orange haired people are the stronger of the species, so I’ve heard. It’s sad we pick on each other at all.
