The first in an occasional series of videos from other folks gardens. For his enthusiasm, hard work and obvious love of working in his own garden, Barry was an easy choice.

Thank you Dr. Parker for sharing your truly beautiful garden. Thank you Malcolm for introducing us to your friend. I found it funny, that you have a hard time naming things in your own garden, but in Dr. Parker's, you knew what each thing was; like that Plantsman part of your brain was at work. Lovely video.

Can so relate to this gardeners garden journey. The discovery of something new everyday, visiting old friends, appreciating not everything is perfect, accepting mother nature holds the trump card and all that other stuff that comes with gardening. How much better the world would be with more Barry's in it. Thank you guys

Thank you for this. It is lovely to see round someone’s garden, especially when they do not take themselves too seriously but still have a passion for gardening.

What a lovely man! Smashing to meet Barry and see his lovely garden. I really envy him his compost bins, shredder etc. I just don't have the space but would love to make my own compost. I do what I can with vegetable peelings and old plants but my space is tiny now. I'm trying a method I heard someone on youtube encouraging, to just put old vegetable peelings, cabbage leaves etc straight onto the soil, I tuck them at the back of my plants against the perimeter fence. They seem to rot down quite nicely and the snails congregate round them so I can pick them off and chuck them into the field behind me. I don't have blackbirds here, they used to eat all my snails for me. Squirrels, pigeons and magpies are my main wildlife, though we have families of great and blue tits coming to raise young in our birdhouses in spring. Just had the last hatchlings leave about 3 weeks ago. Lovely to have your input again, I missed you when you stopped putting out videos. Can I just ask again about my Verbena bonariensis, I managed to kill my Egglestone specimens by cutting them back in an effort to get rid of a tatty mid section of very dead looking stuff. I assumed they'd shoot again from just below the cut, they just died totally. I have bought some more though they're nothing like the specimens I got from Egglestone [but were three times the price!] and I want to keep these, also I've found some self seeded ones just behind where my Egglestone plants were, so I'm hoping to transplant them all so I can have a 'drift' of them, like I see on gardening programmes. I've taken up two of th self seeded ones, potted them on and they're now back in the garden, but I'd love to know how to deal with that tatty middle stuff when it happens again, they looked a right mess during their second year.

I do believe the “New Shoots” boys are dealing with Verbena bonariensis cuttings….(you can probably use the mid part)…in their next video due put sometime around 1st July. Best wishes….Malcolm…..ps…cuttings are so easy and you can do them on a windowsill.

Enjoyed the visit to Barry's garden and the banter between you both Malcolm. By the way cast you mind back to earlier in the year and my comment about my blossom on my fruit tree's here in the Midlands and you reminded of late frost...well they were fine looking good... then along came the Muntjac deer! 😢😢😢

Really enjoyed that Graham. Thank you. I feel that I am not alone calling Pooh sticks Pooh sticks and the comment about no longer knowing why he was looking at other women made me howl as I remember coming out with that myself many years ago. Just hope his kids don’t disown him 😂

That was such a really enjoyable visit with Barry. I absolutely love his composting setup. Such a wonderful backyard he has. Looking forward to seeing more gardens from your neighbours! The use of pots reminds me of Claus Dalby of Denmark. I urge everyone, especially Barry, to have a peek at one of his videos showing his stunning array of plants which I believe are all in containers. I'd love to have a garden which you could move about all you want. The watering would be somewhat of a hassle though.
