Do you know where the tune comes from? It was originally a hymn written by John Bunyan in 1684. Because of its popularity, the tune was used by traditional singers. Here's a version of the original hymn: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6qre4CGrJ2Ffrc Here's a modified version played at Margaret Thatcher's funeral: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5KToKeGZqeKorc Here's an authentic folk version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHuokqRvbq2ji7c I think I'll make a KZbin video about the song at some point. This song is pure magic! The intensity just keeps building--and the lyrics suggest obsession with the failed romance, and the tragedy of not being able to let go. Then after the lyrics end, there is the long instrumental section that speaks of the obsession, the repetition, dare I say the descent into madness. Just brilliant!
@EldritchRyme Жыл бұрын
Obsession, not letting go? This is a lot more basic. And it's about rather worse than having been merely spurned. "If I said I'd marry you, it was only for to try you". He lied, she unfortunately believed him, he had her and ditched her. (And later on mocked her, really, for having given in to him. Taunted her, because he knew no one would have believed her if she HAD accused him. ) That's not obsession, just the hard, sad reality of how easy it was to be "ruined".

All over is great, yes Dublin is much like any other city around Europe. Having said that there are some nice places to visit in Dublin also. Kerry, Galway, Cork and Waterford are just a few places to see. Beautiful scenery, ancient structures, castles. This music is simply beautiful and whether you are black, brown or white; communist, capitalist or fascist; man, woman or transsexual; heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual. Even if you are pink flying space-hippo, everyone can love such an amazing piece of art. For me, music is what unites people, who are always so divided and if you think communists want to destroy this. You are making a fool out of yourself. Sincerely, an anarcho-communist

One of the very greatest rocking bands of all time along with Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher, Van Morrison, Horslips, and the saintly Gary Moore all Celtic brothers, that king of music that stirs your blood, puts a bright shine in your eyes, lifts your spirits, puts a bolt of extra energy in your body, puts a broad smile on your face, make your mind dream of great times, make your feet tap and your hand clap, makes up stand up and dance the crazy dance that no one has seen before as you step out on to the floor and through shapes like the very great Phil and Rory Gallagher did on stage. A blacksmith courted me Nine months and better He fairly won my heart Wrote me a letter. With his hammer in his hand He looked so clever And if I was with my love I would live forever. But where is my love gone With his cheeks like roses And his good black Billycock on Decked around with primroses. I fear the shining sun May burn and scorch his beauty And if I was with my love I would do my duty. Strange news is come to town Strange news is carried Strange news flies up and down That my love is married. I wish them both much joy Though they can't hear me And may God reward him well For the slighting of me. Don't you remember when You lay beside me And you said you'd marry me And not deny me. If I said I'd marry you It was only for to try you So bring your witness love And I'll not deny you. No, witness have I none Save God Almighty And may he reward you well For the slighting of me. Her lips grew pale and wan It made a poor heart tremble To think she loved a one And he proved deceitful. A blacksmith courted me Nine months and better He fairly won my heart Wrote me a letter. With his hammer in his hand He looked so clever And if I was with my love I would live forever
