This comment cracked me up because I've been there, in my case it was 2. groups the pouges and the levellers in the end my mum bought 2 pouges albums and a greatest hits CD and my dad now owns levelling the land by the levellers and no joke there were times when I still lived there that I felt like shouting down the stairs to turn it down but obviously I never did

Here the same. I was into alternative music (Sonic Youth and other obscure noisy stuff). The day I brought a Pogues album home, my dad thought I was doing drugs. Such a change it was. But he liked them very much.

I ended up taking my Mum to A Pogues gig at PC 69 in Bielefeld, Germany, I could not drive at the time. Was IISFFGWG tour. Brillant gig even had kirsty along to sing FTNY and A Man You Don't Meet Every Day. Instead of Cait.

I can't describe it, it's unique, but so beguiling. To the guys eternal credit.. He Knows.. It very nearly brought me to tears.. Just like Annie Lennox, but for different, more totured reasons. Thankyou so much Christy.

The obvious affection these two have for each other is lovely to see. Shane's music will be sung forever; but no one will be able to do it like Shane...that gritty, sung from the gut, and felt from the heart delivery is all Shane.

Few years ago in Dubrovnik walking in Old Town I heard one Scotish street's player plays guitar and sing this song and I join him, after we sang Rainy Night In Soho, when I tried to put him some money in guitar's case he said o, no, there's no need when you are The Pogues fan! And what else I can do then ask him do you like weed? He said of course, I had few grams of domestic ganja, we rolled a real torpedo, went back and for one hour he played and we sang only The Pogues songs!

Christy is so incredibly gifted and his relationship with Shane is wonderful. Two professionals who admire the skill of the other with no judgement, simply acceptance. But to be honest, it breaks my heart to see Shane wasting away, but on the flip side, this life-style choice coincides so perfectly with his level of genius.

I agree with you HALFTHEMIKE! I love Shane so much. There is something about him that is so special; he is a loveable rogue. He introduced me to Irish Punk in the 80's I lived in the Hood in San Francisco w/my 3 kids. The area was becoming gentrified (poor blacks pushed out by wealthy yuppies) & families moving away. I was a punker & knew nothing about Ireland. I'm Irish-Italian, second generation American. I was in a small pub when a DJ played "Thousands are Sailing." I asked the DJ what he was playing, because I had never heard anything like it, & fell in love w/the song instantly, even without understanding most of the lyrics. He says the Pogues & I said what? He says they are from Ireland. So next day I bought the CD & began to buy all their CDs. I finally got to see Shane with his new band The Popes in concert, a night I will never forget. Since then i learned all about Ireland & her music. I have been to Ireland (Erin's Fair Isle) 6 times & am returning soon. I took my 2 youngest kids as well, my youngest daughter & my son. They love Ireland! Eileen the Hooley Queen (65 yr. old grandmother) ROCK ON IRELAND!!
