Hi Taylor. This whole project may be frustrating for you and Brent but it’s also a great display of the teamwork and camaraderie you two have . This is a good example of what small farmers have to overcome to stay in business.. It’s also amazing that you can stay so focused and positive during this project. It’s been another informative and interesting video to watch . I know we won’t be as excited as you and Brent will be when everything is installed. Keep farming, keep smiling, and may God keep you safe.😅. 🐄🚜

years ago i worked for a guy he had 62 stalls in the barn. every morning after milking he would drive the manure spreader in and we would pitch it in. my mom and dad had 20 stalls we would shoevel and wheelbarrow out every day

We had a 12 station flat parlor and the gutters got wheelbarrowednout every or everyother day. But they were 3-4 inches deep, so a lot less than the deep gutters the barn cleaners have.

Fill a used 5 gallon soap bucket with used motor oil, and put a valve on it. Every couple weeks, lay it on the edge of the gutter and open the valve while the cleaner runs to oil the chain. I had to stand on the side of the spreader and pull the manure off the paddles at the heifer barn. There was two places with 2 links instead of 3 between paddles, I had to hold them up to keep it from throwing the chain.

Back in the old days, 60s, before we had a Patz gutter cleaner, we used to back the spreader and tractor down the middle and shovel it directly into the spreader. But, the gutters weren't that deep, we only milked 30 cows, and the spreader and tractor were smaller. I feel sorry for all your trouble there. Hang in there!

I wondered about the struggle with the new head, vs. your statement the old head came out easy. Maybe it was because the old head had worn off so much metal that it became lighter. 😁 Your videos get better and better, Taylor. And there is so much love for you from your viewers. I hope it comes through to you from their comments.

All I can say is this. Great job. We used to have to shovel our manure out of the gutter, place it wheelbarrows and push the barrow up a ramp to the spreader. Of course, in the winter we just dumped it outside. Then in the spring after the thaw we shoveled it into the spreader. A lot of back-breaking work. I personally was glad when my uncle installed a gutter cleaner in the barn. We just had a chute to where the manure went up and dumped into the spreader. Have a good day and God Bless

Hope you had some good eggs and bacon or sausage for proteins to help those muscles, you probably felt a few muscles you didn't even know you had. Never had a barn cleaner. Stalls were raised, and for a long time we just scraped the barn with a loader. If the loader tractor was down, we'd use a back blade. Later we got a skid steer and scraped with that. Did, however, have one of those chains. It was in the concrete feed bunker, and moved the silage around when we were feeding out of the silo.
