ArcAttack, thanks so much. I have a few people asking about the current flowing in your coil's ground strikes. Do you have any rough figures for this? I'd imagine it's impressive.
@arcattackmusic4 жыл бұрын
@@PlasmaChannel A few ways to look at that really. The instantaneous discharge from the topload capacitance through the spark can be 100s of amps upon inital contact with the ground plane. Our output inductor breakout points limit that to 10s of amps. The average secondary current can be in the milliamp range for smaller coils, or upward of a few amps for coils this size and larger.

When I was ten years old, my dad had us stay at a cabin in the Big Bear Mountains here in California. A friend of my dad that he worked with would allow my dad to use his cabin from time to time, so my dad could give us, his kids, a good time in the mountains for a week now and then. I only have one brother and my brother was else where that morning when I walked out of the front door of the cabin we were staying in. My dad was indoors in the cabin when this happened. I walked down the walkway to the cabin, only to stop once, to see the lightening hitting Big Bear Lake, not too far away from where I was standing. The clouds were hanging low over me too as I look back on that morning and it was about 10 o'clock in the morning I recall. As I got near the road, there was a large power line hanging just above my head, about 20 feet above me. Suddenly, I was surrounded by light, while hearing this sharp snapping sound over my head. I even saw the bolt, as it came out of the sky, heading toward me when it happened. That was quite a sight to see. This is real I want you to know and I'm now 64 years of age as I look back on the experience. What surprised me was the sound the lightening made, as it hit the power line, getting absorbed into the power system and that was the very loud snapping sound it made, as though someone were snapping a huge whip over my head. When the light cleared, I found my body had instinctively made my legs collapse, so I was close to the ground, trying to protect myself. It happened fast too when it all happened. All of this was instinctive, as a response too. I didn't start to process what had happened to me, until I stood up and looked up at the power line, realizing what had happened. So, if you think there are people who have not been underneath a bolt of lightening to hear its horrifying sound, I'm one who had the experience. Now a days, when I see lightening in the sky, when a storm goes by, I remember that moment in time, when the lightening hit the power line over my head, making that huge snapping sound. This Probably sounds like a stupid question but why do Tesla coils sound like that when it sound like thunder but quieter

Well, because a tesla coil 'arc' is composed of dozens of spark pulses per second. This one was operating at 100 sparks per second, or 100hz output. Thats why it sounded like that, and not individual pulses.

For my friends out there that can help me. Can a sine wave ride the earth’s magnetic wave through space? Can 3 phases positively charged rods create a synthetic “DC” wave, can a negatively charged 3 phase rods collect the sine wave produced by the positively charged rods. Would you need “4 phases” the 4th phase being the center ground to help collect the positively charged rods. Would you need 3 phases in sync or 3 phases in their own phase to produce proper power to transmit the perfect voltage through air? If you capped the signal and added more "emitting" rods to the side of the emitter could you direct that power to multiple "collectors"? (1 power point to multiple collectors.) Could the collectors reach out a grab 2 phases to help switch between the collectors? Can electricity ride a magnetic wave? Can you send a sine wave from the southern hemisphere to northern hemisphere? Could you send an electron from earth to moon? Can you control shooting electricity in space since there is no ground in space? would the electricity grab on to the minerals in space? Could a space craft be negatively charged and be propelled by the protons presented by the sun in the solar wind (Like magnetic theory)? Also how far out does the solar wind reach. If solar wind is only great at near the closet planets, can we "ride" that wind for the faster means of travel. If you used laser acceleration to push a craft through space would you have enough energy from earth to propel it? would you need satellites to help push? Can a laser pulse from 1 satellite charge up another satellite? If so, could you "Daisey chain" or line of sight the satellites to help charge one other.

I like seeing stuff like this, the ting is bigger isn’t always better when it comes to joe public getting their hands on them. I mean Tesla coils, Lasers and magnets. All pose a very big risk to health when the powers are ramped up. Magnets shatter bones, lasers reflection can blind in a nano second and even with skin effect, you can get really bad burns from a Tesla coil. Thanks for this video. 👍

Hi GS, glad you enjoyed, and true. A big coil like this would vaporize your skin on contact.

There's some debate about how much of a role the skin effect plays in making high-frequency shocks less painful than low-frequency or DC shocks at a given voltage & current. The human body is a relatively poor conductor compared to metals, so the skin depth would be much deeper (although I'm not sure how deep). An alternative explanation is that our nerves don't respond to those frequencies directly, so we can only feel the damage produced by burning, not the direct pain that the shock itself would produce at lower frequencies.

@@PlasmaChannel ik he is... But yours isn't getting much recognition.... There's so much knowledge in your videos as well, and to top that, you are very humble 👀 Really, you guys are teaching a lot to EEE students around the world. Can't stress that enough... Hope you get the recognition you deserve... I learnt a lot from you. ❤️
