Awesome stuff! Quick question: I have been practicing on some foam, and when I start to spray the plasti dip on a piece of foam, the foam starts to curl, with the edges curling away from the side I'm spraying. Is this an indication I'm spraying it on too thick? Something else, maybe? Thanks!

Hi Clumpy, Hmm? Weird. I only spray finished props, and they’re fully built, so they’re pretty soild - so I haven’t seen any curling? Are you spraying a thin piece of foam loose by itself? Maybe that’s why it’s curling? I know thinner foam by itself curls when you heat it for too long, maybe the plasti dip causes thinner foam to curl? Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

hello! I'm looking for a replacement for plastic dip most of rubber coating I find is solvent based, plastic dip is also solvent based spray right, doesn't it melt foam?

Hi! I used plasti-dip on every one of my props and it doesn’t melt foam. Years later and my props are still in perfect condition.

that's great! I'm curious some people says don't use solvent based spray or paint on foam because it will melt foam or paint color, or just plasti-dip is kind of Exception?@@BlackSheepProps

Have you noticed that the Plasti Dip sprays on differently depending on what kind of nozzle the can has? The first can I got had a regular cylindrical red nozzle like on spray paint, and I had good results (on my awesome new medieval mace!), but a second can I bought has a bigger, white nozzle (like on the can in this video) that seems to spray the Plasti Dip in kind of chunks or clumps. Almost like it's on purpose to make the surface textured. . . which is what it did. I ended up with almost like mini-popcorn-ceiling texture on my foam. Have you encountered any problems like this?

Hi clumpybug, that is weird! I have never experienced different colored caps? Every can I’ve ever had has the white nozzle. Almost always sprays smooth and clean. Every once in a while though, I will get a can that starts to spit just a couple dots on my piece - which stinks! - but mostly very smooth. And it seems like the occassional spitting happens when the can gets near the bottom? But mostly good performance all the time. If I get spitting I usually stop and toss it out and pop open a new can.

What happens if you walk by already sprayed plastidip without the big mask thingy can anything happen?

Hi Temp, I was taught to wear a respirator when spraying plasti-dip or spray paint so I don’t breath in any of the airborne stuff floating around in the air, but once it has been sprayed there isn’t anymore floating particles. You can smell a slight scent of plasti-dip for a few hours after it’s been painted but there isn’t anything floating in the air to breath in. I am not an expert on the health risks of plasti-dip but from my experience and the experience of others I learned from there doesn’t seem to be any issues after the spraying is done. I hope that helps.

Have you tried rustoleum rubber coating spray? Curious how well it works since the color variations are more available.

Hi realms! No, I actually haven’t tried the rustoleum rubber yet. We usually paint over most of our sealed props so the color really isn’t too important. But some times we have left the black Plasti Dip for our overall color - and in those cases it would be good to use a rubber coating that’s the right color. Might have to go for it soon. Is it normal for the plastidip to build up while you're spraying it?

Hey man! I know everyone’s a bit different - some folks like to wail on it with a pretty deep layer right off the bat, but when I spray I like to put down a light/medium sort of coverage - slowly adding until it is a few layers deep. Taking your time with light to medium layers keeps it from going down too heavy and pooling up - or dripping. Once it pools you’re in trouble. Lighter amounts seems to let you go back over it with the next layer without soaking the heck out of it. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching the channel dude!
