Another great way to mask off the tires(if you don't have the dip release) ive done many times in the past whether it was plasti dip or spray painting wheels. Take 2 decks (I believe you need 2) of playing cards and stick them in between the very edge/lip of the rim and tire then overlap the cards around the entire wheel. It greatly reduces overspray on the tires while you spray paint the wheels.

PSA about leaving wheels on the car or not: I decided to dip the wheels on my white Elise a nice matte black. As it's quick and easy for me to remove the wheels, I took them off for easier cleaning and access for spraying. Here's the problem: the space around the bolts is so tight that while putting the dipped wheels back on the car, the wrench touched the dip just enough to turn and tear it off. All the work was for nothing and I had to remove all of the beautiful fresh dip. If your wheels are designed in a way that there's not much space around the bolts and there's a risk of touching the dip while wrenching them back in, do NOT remove your wheels for dipping. I hope this will save somebody the trouble I went through.

When I dipped my wheels a few weeks ago, I found it really difficult to get even decent coverage on all surfaces without moving the car to turn the wheels. After moving it, I was amazed how little coverage some parts of the spokes had, even though I tried to cover them with the first few coats. Admittedly, the can is much more likely to spray huge particles of product if you're using it at an aggressive angle, which is the only way to get good coverage on all surfaces during the early coats.
@dipyourcar6 жыл бұрын
Depending on the style and design of the wheel - it's going to be necessary to rotate the wheel half way through the coats. We cover this in the Complete Guide video. There's no way you can hit every spoke properly without rotation.
@MrRangerZr16 жыл бұрын
Dipyourcar shows that in another video. They said to move the car half way through the job so the bottom spokes are exposed. Just be careful not to jam the plastic bag into your brakes.
@s.flanders6 жыл бұрын
MrRangerZr1 I did watch the complete guide and knew I'd have to move the car. I just wish I had moved it earlier and more often, actually, not just once mid-way through the process. You also make a good point about the bags. The space between my caliper and the wheels is so small that the bags were essentially jammed between them, which messed things up a bit both when moving the car and removing the bags. In any case, I have useful experience for next time, and I do plan to redo my wheels soon.

@@honoredsage4946 Yes, the black was just coated on the lug nuts that I purchased. The first winter changeover, my mechanic got the tires mounted without scratching up the coating on the lug nuts too much. But after the changeover back to summers, then again to winters, the coating on the lug nuts were at the point that - with winter salt and elements taking their toll - they were all rusted up by the end of the 2nd winter. My advice would be to remove the wheels. And while your wheels are off, do yourself a favor and paint your crust calipers. No sense in having a sharp looking car and wheels and then show off rusty calipers. I just paint mine black. No need to accentuate stock calipers. Red also gets dirty and gunky pretty fast, so black is the easiest color to maintain. Plenty of videos out there on how to do it. Plus you won't get overspray all over your car. Don't think for a second that it only gets on the sidewalls. The things you are wearing a respirator to protect your lungs from is also floating around and landing on your car. I take the wheels off in the drive way and paint them in the garage. Either way you do it, this is a great video on how to use the product. Seriously, man... You do have the best how to videos on KZbin. Keep it up!

You are an advocate for "Dip your car" products. What about the lugs and emblem in the center ? It would be so much easier to just remove the wheels one by one. Don't you Think ? Don't get me wrong the product is seems extraordinary !!

WOOOOOW Who does NOT have the tools to remove the Wheels from the Car? Every car/truck SHOULD have a Jack and Breaker Bar for Changing the Tires should you get a Flat No One should every say they can't do this, if they do THEY SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING I can not wait to do my truck

I definitely thought I was done after two cans.... couldn’t peel parts off afterwards! Won’t make that mistake again

Imagine not having the means or the tools to remove the wheels from a car at least one at a time. Where's it all gone wrong? It doesn't seem that long ago where EVERY CAR came with a jack, and a wheel brace and a spare wheel.
@jonvincentmusic6 жыл бұрын
Fact is, lots of cars made in the last ten years don't even come with a spare wheel, so many owners these days haven't a clue how to remove a wheel. They see it as a garage job.

Run flats man. I just got my bimmer, but I’m still thinking of investing in a spare and a jack because although they say run flats will run for 100 miles, one can never be too sure. I completely agree, these new advances sometimes just eat at our basic skills.

As much as I like spares, I understand having fix-a-flat kits on small sporty cars. Not much room in the trunk for a spare on my little Fiat 124 Spider. But yeah. I was like... who doesn't have the tools to do this? Then I realized he was right. Mind blown.

Removing wheels is simple. Putting them back on without properly torquing them is not

what if you don't have a flat safe surface to remove one wheel at a time?

Hey quick question... I dipped my wheels but when I installed them back on my truck a couple of the lugnuts caught the plasti dip and started peeling it up. Can I patch it or do I have to start over? Thanks

Wait so one can per wheel? Or no?
@dipyourcar6 жыл бұрын
One can per wheel for a standard color like Black, Anthracite (used in this video), etc. There are color however that require a topcoat like gloss or pearl. Once you go to a wheel larger than 20", more than one can per wheel may be necessary.

Love your channel..looking to dip my wheels soon and this kit would be amazing. Also at the fraction of the cost it would to buy everything individually

Great video. The owner has Kumhos tires on the front and Contenials on the back.
