Plastic Flute?! | Nuvo Flute Review | Is The Plastic Nuvo Flute Worth It?

Supposedly the plastic Nuvo flute is an excellent flute for beginners (particularly children) because of its durability, light-weight structure, & it's water proof. I wanted to know how it compares to a regular flute. Does the plastic flute play? Does it sound good? Is it actually waterproof? Is it something you should get for you or your kid?

like the review wondering if there is any pad on the buttons which you did not mentioned and was it permanent or "disposable" lol .

The pads on the Nuvo flute are made from a rubber silicone, which are supposed to be permanent. If a pad becomes loose, the flute has easily removable key caps so you can seal the pad in with an O ring. My flute came with some O rings so if I need to repair, I'm already ready to go.

I really want one of these flutes! As a flute teacher, what is your opinion on the alternate lip plate? Most flute students don’t have the option to switch. I would think that students would possibly develop bad habits early on in regard to proper sound. Thoughts?

Are you talking using the firstnote lip plate vs the standard lip plate? Both of these plates are available for the Nuvo flute. I would only recommend using the firstnote lip plate if the student is really young (I'm talking 4-6), otherwise I would stick to the standard plate, because yes... Need to get into those good habits! If there is no way of being able to upgrade or switch, stick to the standard plate. & I only recommend the alternative plate to the young ones (still, only if they are able to upgrade later) because many of them get too overwhelmed between the hand positions, fingerings, & embrouchure, but it's enough to still teach them everything essential about playing the flute & then upgrading their plate at about age 7.

i wonder if the plastic flute is the better choice than getting a cheap silver one? because im assuming it takes less maintenance?

It is less maintenance. I would say it depends on how far your looking to go with your flute. If you just want to play for fun, then yeah, it might be the better option. But if you are looking to play professionally, then no.

@@graciellanarazaki5122 the nuvo flute would be better than getting a cheap metal one from Amazon. Finding a used flute off Offer up or facebook marketplace is a great way to find a decent flute for a low price but it won't be as durable as the nuvo flute

I was just going to say that. I know it has been 2 years already but others may benefit from these comments. I started with a silver cheap flute from Amazon (self taught adult) At one point I was having a hard time playing some notes lower register and stopped playing cause I thought it was me...once in a store I tried flutes and I realized I had no problem with the lower register or tone production. So a bad instrument can be frustrating. I finally have a good flute, a student Yamaha. But the nuvo was my second flute and it has been with me all the way cause you can leave out of the case and grab it anytime and play, take it anywhere. If any adult beginner is thinking about getting one.. get it. You'll be able to work on your embouchure, learn the fingering, learn to play and once you are ready for a better flute, this flute is an excellent back up!

It really is! I do live that it's safe with water. I LOVE kayaking & this summer, I plan on kayaking with this flute! Because why not?

They are definitely not bad! Perfect for outdoors & I love just keeping mine out. Don't have to worry about it getting knocked over or becoming tarnished.

Greetings from Thailand. This clip is great. I'm 46 years old and I've never played a foot in my life. when you see I think it's not just suitable for beginners. But it works for me too, because I'm definitely going to have to slip it out of my hands often.

Thanks for your review, I'm impressed that you're happy with the plastic flute. However, all of us beginners want to know how it feels to play (not the weight), as I've found, expensively, that an instrument given the thumbs up by an expert on youtube was much harder to blow than a more expensive model.

I didn't feel that way. It feels about the same as my actual student flute (it's a Selmer). The hardest flute to play was the one of eBay. Anyway, if I'm discussing my concerns, it would just be more on the width of the flute. It's going to be a weird transition from weight & width when it's time to upgrade flutes.

I have a pink one. Is the flute 2.0 any better? It is much thicker than the regular flutes, and hurts my hands to go back and forth. Wish nuvo would make an open hole with a b foot, and an alto. I played a regular flute at 7, and it was not too big. It does not have to be so thick. And the mouthpiece is much closer. I love it, but wish it was sized like a silver flute.

You know, I absolutely agree. It is thicker & that's not necessary. I havent tried the Nuvo 2.0 though. There is another brand of plastic flutes too called Guo. I've never played that flute, but the do have piccolo, concert flutes, alto flutes, & bass flutes.

If I had a flute I could play in the pool I'd play in the pool. I play ocarina in the bath already. I want one of these as a camping/travel flute. Also good for playing in the kitchen whilst cooking, silver flutes don't love the steamy environment. I'd take it anywhere I would feel edgy about bringing my Yamaha.
