Lyrics:
A sudden kiss in the morning, a tender gaze in the evening
Beyond my range of comprehension until you brought to attention
Greetings always followed by sweet goodbyes, yes, all must meet its end
Baby, can’t you just relax? Don't look back, don’t hurry!
Still reminiscing the day when you left me all on my own, then
I walked away from any daylight, instead of dawn it was twilight
Underneath the disco ball breaks the spell that holds you in my mind
Though I used to dance with you, now we’re through, I’m sorry!
Don't you dare even try to convince me, don’t you lie ‘bout the way that we could be
"Love’s a game" they all say it, they mean it-might as well have fun, play every single one
I filled the holes and the cracks in my heart with fancy high heels and plenty of dresses
They’re my sole companions on this journey
Many men, that are fishing and begging, speak of love but they’re still second-guessing
Hollow vows, even promises broken: every face and voice brings memories of you
Glassy eyes shedding tears of my sorrow, hoping they will forget by tomorrow
Praying no one’s asking for the reason.
A thousand dazzling lights surround me, glimmering with mysticality
As if they’re calling me to head back, but tired train rides endure that,
Half-asleep I hear a sigh, hear a voice speak whispers best ignored
Should I even bother though, yes or no: don’t worry!
I'm just playing games, I know that's plastic love
Dance to the plastic beat, another morning comes
I'm just playing games, I know that's plastic love
Dance to the plastic beat, another morning comes

@@thedreamer6429 sadly, no. The instrumental used here is the one made by Mariya Takeuchi and if i tried to upload it, not only would it get taken down almost immediately but id probably be sued badly. My cover on Spotify has the same exact lyrica as used here and lots of live instruments to give a similar feeling. I know its a different mix and timed to match the original track, but i hope you'll still take a listen and gain an appreciation for the one there, as we put a lot of time and love into our rendition of the instrumental.

I believe we'll see another era like that in the future as the world deglobalizes. That era existed through Japanese and American co-prosperity. Our nations still maintain complimentary industrial bases and practices but China has sucked up a lot of industrial demand. Repatriating manufacturing will have 2nd, 3rd, and 4th order effects that kick off a return to the era of co-prosperity that we saw during the 1980's. I'm speaking from experience as a gun industry guy. The best optics on the market are either American made, Japanese made, or American designed and Japanese manufactured (like the current king of LPVO's the Eotech Vudu 1-10). That could apply to a lot of industries if we repatriated manufacturing. Our nations could rule the world again if the situation in China becomes untenable, and I'm hoping it does.

@@poisonouslead85 Wasn't Japan's 80s about Japan being sucked into the globalization? Plastic Love literally flopped because it sounded too American (and Mariya's plan was for it be a song that would bring her to light overseas... It kinda worked just took very long), and the whole Jpop genre is/was extremely inspired by North American pop/jazz/funk songs

This is one of the most faithful English covers I've ever heard. It keeps the original meaning of the song and the transliterated English lyrics do not alter it any way. And Caitlin's voice actually sounds reasonably similar to Mariya-san. It is almost like I'm listening to an English cover by Mariya-san. This is truly the peak of English song covers. It's simply beautiful.

Wow, Caitlin did an amazing job on the lyrics too. Anybody that translates the original song knows that how slow the words come out. Just translating them into English wouldn't fit the rhythm but here shew manages to fill out and extend the simple lines of the original and construct it to be more full. And everything flows well, the words, the synonyms and still rhymes. This is genius at work, and she managed to be on key and hit every dynamic 100%. I would be surprised if she hasn't made any originals yet (Yes I am new and don't if she does or not). She clearly has the talent to do so.

Thank you for your high praise! I haven't made originals under my own name yet, but I actually did sorta write one a few days ago - no idea if I'll produce it since I'm still fairly new to writing melodies and such, but I'd like to do more of it! I do have a Japanese idol themed group called "Interlunium" where we only make original music: kzbin.info I have one solo, Blue Moon Blue Ocean, available in English and Japanese with my voice, and in Korean by another vocalist. I didn't write the lyrics for it, though :) Thanks for your interest in my channel, I hope you'll check out my other works and stick around!

Were you alive during the bubble era? My father is from Detroit and talks all the time about Detroits heyday during the auto boom and how it felt like the center of the world for a couple decades. Obviously Japan didn't fall nearly as far as Detroit, but I'm curious as to what it was like.
@x6621
@x6621 3 жыл бұрын
@@jakej2680 Well, the fall of the Bubble Era was not as dramatic or shocking or collapsing as people tend to think. The Bubble Era was basically 4 years of consumer overspending, glamour, luxury and excessive lifestyles. Yes, I lived through it. It was super fun. They were times when innocence were at its height and the world seemed to be at the end. City Pop was booming on every street corner. We had embarrassing hairstyles, huge and ridiculous. We used to wave fans and feathers when we were dancing in Tokyo’s clubs. It was a fantastic time to be alive. But at the same time, when the Bubble burst, it had no dramatic effect on the Japanese lifestyle. The Japanese people became much more wise and resourceful in their spending, no longer overspending ridiculously But in general, consumer spending here in Japan remains one of the highest in the world. Walk down ANY downtown Tokyo street and there’s about 17 shopping malls and 20 luxury stores. 30 years later, Japan is still the 3rd largest economy in the world, the 4th biggest exporter in the world, the Yen is the 3rd most traded currency in the world, and Tokyo recently overtook Hong Kong as the financial center of Asia. After the bubble ended, Shibuya and Harajuku began to flourish as centres of fashion and rebellious youth culture that had not existed prior to 1991. City Pop was no longer mainstream music and the big hair disappeared. So basically the Bubble Era was not so different to what Japan is like today and how Japanese people live today, only back then people were more optimistic about the future, and now we are smarter about how we use our gigantic savings accounts. There’s also the fracturing of Japanese female fashion in new “subcultures”- Harajuku girls, Shibuya girls, Bubble revival girls, the list goes on. City Pop in the last 5 years has returned massively to the Japanese mainstream. Also, the Japanese economy became less reliant on consumer spending, and much more on exports, scientific research, financial services, and technology.

I'm Japanese music listener and I think this translating is so nice. Although rewriting the lyrics on another language is really hard, this lyrics not only give me a nealy original atmosphere but also rhymes in the end of some phrases(Japanese doesn't have rhyming practice like a English). This is not literal translation, but very nice as song's lyrics.

As a fluent Japanese speaker and a city pop geek, I absolutely love this translation. I think it’s important, when translating two alien languages-like English and Japanese-that it’s important to deliver the same intent. Also, I’m so glad you stuck to the same vocal quality as Mariya-Sama. I think modern pop singers soup up vocals waaay too much, and the original intent of the author gets lost. Your attempt to stick to her melody is spot on and gives a nice treat.

It's quite rare for me to come across an English cover that meets and blends well with the original track without rushing or dragging. Usually since the lyrics were already written with a specific tune and beat in mind, that means translating it necessitates stretching or condensing many words and making it quite cumbersome. This fits snugly with the track and it's a superb and wholesome experience. You've made a masterpiece among English translation, friend.

The videos should have put a disclaimer, proper translations ENG-JP are not smooth sounding due to the grammar. Your comment is on point tho, the atmosphere/mood, rythm and broad sense is preserved. If the song was initially written in english this could be the definitive version. I'm wondering if the vocals from the original song was edited out or is the song available in Voice-OFF version somewhere.

Honestly I think direct translations tend to suck. Translating stuff (especially lyrics & literature) involves more than just changing words from one language to another; you also have to take care to translate ideas from the source language into a way that makes sense in the target language. Sometimes that means not being precise with the wording.
@taskendeer
@taskendeer 3 жыл бұрын
As you can't really do a precise translation without completely ruining the rhythm etc. This is a pretty good one, at least from what I know of the original lyrics. You have it spot on, not perfect translation but as good as can be given the challenges.

Most of the beest English song dubs are that: Japanese and English are just too different when it comes to diction for a direct and accurate translations to work well for songs. Accurate translations are great for stuff like written stories and subtitles, but for songs where melody and rhyme are important it's best to just remake the lyrics to better fit.

Lyrics: A sudden kiss in the morning, a tender gaze in the evening Beyond my range of comprehension until you brought to attention Greetings always followed by sweet goodbyes, yes, all must meet its end Baby, can’t you just relax? Don't look back, don’t hurry! Still reminiscing the day when you left me all on my own, then I walked away from any daylight, instead of dawn it was twilight Underneath the disco ball breaks the spell that holds you in my mind Though I used to dance with you, now we’re through, I’m sorry! Don't you dare even try to convince me, don’t you lie ‘bout the way that we could be "Love’s a game" they all say it, they mean it-might as well have fun, play every single one I filled the holes and the cracks in my heart with fancy high heels and plenty of dresses They’re my sole companions on this journey Many men, that are fishing and begging, speak of love but they’re still second-guessing Hollow vows, even promises broken: every face and voice brings memories of you Glassy eyes shedding tears of my sorrow, hoping they will forget by tomorrow Praying no one’s asking for the reason. Still reminiscing the day when you left me all on my own, then I walked away from any daylight, instead of dawn it was twilight Underneath the disco ball breaks the spell that holds you in my mind Though I used to dance with you, now we’re through, I’m sorry! For me it was the opposite. I go through phases where I listen to music a lot then not. Started listening again and when I do I listen to plastic love and this version a lot. After just a few listens I started getting some very weird recommendations that made no sense. After a few days I read some of the comments then decided to click on one of the recommendations. I'm glad I did. While I don't really understand the format or sub culture I'm very happy for her continued success. It is also fun to watch new content from her. I always felt she was too big/talented for just covers. For years I came back to this song and while she did upload some other great covers she never had that explosion in popularity I felt she had earned and deserved. She has now, that's for sure.

Have to say, I expected another amateur and half-done attempt at this classic song (like so much of KZbin's "artists") But no, your production value is high, you paid SO MUCH attention to the originals vocal inflections, style, and swag of the song that its damn right impressive. Subed.

I'm usually really hesitant about these dubbed songs because for some reason they feel off compared to the original ones. But this, this is done perfectly. I'm not even exaggerating this is perfect. This is a dub done right. Not many are out there like this.
@DiskoSpider
@DiskoSpider 5 жыл бұрын
I think because the singer knows and understands how the song was meant to be sang and how the fans of the original expect it to be sang. A lot of dubs the singer wants to try to use it as a platform to show off some vocal talent by adding a bunch of frills and gaudy trash to the vocal melody. This artist stayed very true to the source material.

@@MrFrankcap The meat of the dish is the _I'm just playing games_ bit, because she absolutely, *absolutely* nailed the way, tone, breathing and pacing of the last phrases (not to mention production), to the point where it's _completely indistinguishable_ from the original. Underneath this beautiful tune, a tale of a young girl, turned cynical by the betrayal of her true love, now she roams the night with no faith in love, not believing such a thing is even possible or real, instead playing with men’s hearts, playing with them like he played with her’s, as if to have some form of payback for the pain he caused her, but in reality her heart weeps in pain, broken and cracked, she no longer believes in real love...to her love is fake, untrue, to her...love is nothing but cheap plastic.
