Dont drill them or use any adhesive that will weaken the materials over time. these sheds are amazing, add a floating plywood floor, which adds weight and is sensible if you have a bike, for the stand, then put shelving units on that. i might make a light batton frame for insulation and boarding, only fix where sensible to do so, also adds weight and comfort. trust these sheds, they wont let you down.

I give you credit for making it work. It should last forever the way you reinforced it. Look at the bright side. You still don't have to paint it on the exterior. You may want to treat tge interior wood with something to resist termites and carpenter ants. Just a thought. Nice work.

Great suggestion, treat the interior wood. I had not thought about that, awesome idea.

The Rubbermaid 7x8 I got well over ten years ago is holding up well. The metal bits around the door are starting to rust though. It even survived a move and sitting in pieces outside a few years. I built a frame inside it too, but solely for custom shelving. I might attach the shed to the frame some day. Suncast, on the other hand, is not so great. The resin is brittle in the cold and it never felt as sturdy as Rubbermaid. Assembly was more difficult, but it was still a decent shed. I also have had a Craftsman for several years that has been about as good as Rubbermaid. Wood feels sturdier, but it is much more expensive and it rots. Arrow (steel) is a nightmare to assemble and it rusts rather quickly. The resin sheds are a reasonable in between.

Nice save, before the damage happens👍🏻 Only plastic shed experience I have is with a very small Rubbermaid garden shed. Used for gas cans and a small generator under my 3 sided carport, so not really exposed to much weather. It's construction reminds me of an old plastic Rubbermaid cooler without insulation between the inner and outer layers! Thanks for the eye opener! I just ass-umed they were all about the same quality😳

I have had Keter sheds for a long time. 8x8, 6x6 and 4x6. These older sheds come with fully moulded solid L shaped corners fixed top and bottom with the large plastic wing nuts. The 6x8 has a fully moulded roof that comes in 8 sections. The 2 smaller sizes have flat sheet roofs. Water does come in at times along the horizontal seam on the large shed roof. I suspect that it's due to shrinkage in cold weather. The fold up corner type looks like a failure waiting to happen to me. I am putting up the latest Keter Newton 7x7 and it is a totally different design. With slim plastic corner posts, metal door frame, metal framed doors etc. Using hundreds of self tapping screws everywhere. The roof is 4 sections split vertically. So it takes me very much longer to put up, like 3 days. I wouldn't want to take it down and move it somewhere else, like the old sheds. That you I build in half a day.

once the screws go into the plastic, you can't remove them w/o them losing their mechanical hold. the plastic has expanded and won't hold the same on the 2nd time....I would much rather have automotive 2-piece panel fasteners than screws

Them wing nuts are £12 a pop, one of mine has broke which was my own fault….so I need to do some DIY. Apart from that it’s been up more 15 years never had a problem with storms + wind + rain Why because I put 2 ropes over the roof tide 4x 5 litre containers with water to stop the roof from flying off. 😃

I love you Harvey, but man take some of that moldy money you blow on flee market stuff you have a million of, take a break from your market place obsession and build a nice big pole barn on that beautiful property. All the stuff laying in the weeds, I been watching over 8 years accumulate, make shift shelters and golf cart roof coverings is depressing. Build a giant pole barn on that beautiful property, clean it up and the KZbin community would triple. But I know you better than I know myself 😉

I would make some roof trusses in it to support the roof from snow this winter ❄️❄️

Harvey, I'm thinking an atv lift, engine test run stand, tire machine, and a compressor, but no, a garden shed! The story about your "Time Out" shed had a nice twist though. All kidding aside, a very nice job bracing it up, but it would be cool to see one built as per the directions in a wind tunnel with the designers inside. That's my kind of entertainment. Over and out .

Criyky you may as well built a shed from scratch, 😅 that's right you did 😅it will certainly last longer now, great job when you said abou the snow I was wondering if that roof arch would hold it, hope so, all the best to you and your loved ones

I wish someone could tell me how to remove the snap in bracket on one of the doors,a person I support decided to help me fix on the doors and before I know he has snap clicked on one of the doors without first fitting door to the bottom!

I have pretty much the same shed and I've had it now for about 10 years up here in the Canadian winters and it's still standing. I didn't enforce the structure like you did and one big wind storm, pushed out one of the wall panels out of the frame so I just flexed it and popped it back in. I used spray foam seal on the inside edges to keep out rain and bugs and that works pretty good. Just having the roof leak now along the top seam. One of the roof pieces is not butted in tight so water is coming in along the top spine. Any thoughts on how to fix that?

Don't the bugs just come through the gaps of the door anyway? I was going to spray foam or caulk around the structure and remembered that there is, basically, a gaping slit by the door.

@@joshuaychung The walls have shifted enough over time and I had to drill decent sized holes for the plumbing for all my pool hardware (pump, filter, etc...) so now I get things coming in. Over the years it's still been pretty solid.

I wonder if using construction adhesive would add stability if used along the seams and joints. It wouldn't have the same rigidity as the nice frame you installed, but I was just wondering. I'm in an area that receives little to no snow.

Is a plastic shed the same material as a rubbermaid shed? Rebuilding here in Florida after hurricane Ian, wondering if rubbermaid would warp in Florida's hot sun? Thank you!!
@K03sport
@K03sport Жыл бұрын
regardless of the material, ground anchors are a must. I choose the lightest color possible for my suncast Modernist shed; however, the roof was black on all 3 colorways. would a wooden shed w/roof shingles be better w/the rain/heat. worst case is repainting every 5-7 years...
