These videos are like a time machine that takes me back to my childhood in the 1970s! "The boat is just for play value so kids can have a muck about. It does float" Brilliant!

This is a cool set, lots of nostalgia. One of the first sets I got as a kid in 1:32 back in the day. I haven't painted up my set of the smaller lads yet as I'm thinking of getting another box to provide some conversion options. I was a bit suspect of the size difference within this set, however I reckon once painted they'll be fine. Another nice video, keep 'em coming. All the best.

Thanks Ronan for your comments, i looked at plastic soldier review and the size looked worse than what it actually is so their was a sense of relief, make sure you post a video of your conversions!!!!

I used to collect Airfix solders when I was a little kid in the 70's. I had a couple boxes of WWII US Marines and this was not the original figures. They changed the poses. The one I had came with two blamethrowers men, two bazooka men along with two men actually loading the shell into the bazooka. There was no men on their belly firing a machine gun either. The guys throwing the grenade didn't have a rifle in one hand, etc. These poses look like they were mostly modeled after the German Infantry set. I would say the poses here are better overall than what I had, maybe that's why the changed them. The picture on the box was different too...but than again, the boxes were not red back than.

Used to love the old airfix boxes, made you feel you were getting a really good product!!
@redicebluefire25525 жыл бұрын
@@TOYSOLDIERREVIEW Yes, they had the look of quality. The way I remember the boxes to be in the USA the picture in the front took up the whole front,, but there was no red except the AIRFIX decal itself, if I remember correctly. Wish I still had at least one of the old boxes. I believe they were about $2.00 a box back than on average.

I used to own the original set from the 1960's and it was slightly different. The dinghy came in two parts and it had two different oarsmen.
@TOYSOLDIERREVIEW5 жыл бұрын
It's funny you say that mark, I reviewed this set and was sure the dinghy was in Two parts from my childhood although same figures!

I think the “blurb” on the side of the box was taken directly from the old Airfix U.S. Marine set, the one from the 1960’s, because I do remember that set included a marine with a flamethrower.

For being so old, they actually look pretty solid. Been looking at 1/72 scale figures, and I have to say the Airfix ones hold up pretty well all things considered as far as poses. And can't beat the price, like $10 for a box with 40-something figures.
@Twirlyhead4 жыл бұрын
Those are not the original Airfix 1/72 US Marines of course. Most of those figures are from the 1/32 American Infantry, uniform and all.
@TOYSOLDIERREVIEW4 жыл бұрын
Spot on there is an older set although I have not came across them as they are not very good!
@Twirlyhead4 жыл бұрын
@@TOYSOLDIERREVIEW True, the originals were not great but they were marines as opposed to these infantry. They were always popular for the dinghy when I was a kid (60,s/70s). The original set, about thirty figures of, were included slightly inaccurately in the Aurora Anzio Beach set together with about twenty of the 1st set of Airfix German Infantry all in a hard plastic.

I got a set one time and it didn't have the bazooka operators or the soldiers who were supposed to go in the raft. But it did have the raft and the rest of the troops.

The original set when i was a teenager did include a flamethrower , other poses from those early days are missing in this set as well. Original set while not as detailed sculpting wise was better in my opinion. Trevor

It always used to annoy me that you did not really get the officer figurer like you are shown on the front and you did not get a flame thrower which is iconic for the us marines. Though the rest of the poses are not too bad

Sadly this great set completely misses the most important squad weapon used by the USMC (and also the Army), the Browning Automatic Rifle*. Instead we have dozens of M3A1 "grease guns" which were rare in the Pacific and only issued to drivers and tank crew. As for officers, they were issued M1 carbines anyway so we have plenty of likely suspects in this set *The machine gunners in this set have the Browning M1919A6 - a belt fed weapon completely different to the BAR

I got this set when MPC sold it in the early 80’s and still have them most of all cause it was my very first set. My plastic seems to be harder then what you show here. The box art is wrong in that the Marines were green from the start of the war and not brown/tan .
