possibly color changes to the skin if you are talking about 5FU but i have found it very safe if injected slightly deeper than the dermis. other than that very safe.

@motherethio i think what your asking does the scar go away completely? no, the point of a good scar revision is to make the line very hard to see with the naked eye.

i always defer to your surgeon for his advice. however, for my patients i put them on silicone gel (does not matter the brand) for 8 to 12 weeks. if the incision is red, then i laser it with a KTP laser or you can use pulsed dye laser as well.

not necessarily. younger people tend to scar more so the recovery may require a few more visits to manage the potential for scar formation after the procedure.

burn scars are difficult to manage. if they are subtly atrophic, then silicone injections could help.

Dr. Lam, I had very bad ice pick acne scars on both of my cheek and nose. 4 days ago I went to a plastic surgeon to have a dermabrasion done. I am happy with the outcome, except he went too deep on my left cheek and left a small deep hole. He said he will stitch it up at the 1-week follow-up. Is this alright? I am worried that my skin is not completely healed yet, and I don't want to make it anymore worse. What are my options now, Dr. Lam?

Dear Dr. Lam, Here is the scar that I have mentioned above. Do you think it will heal and shrink into a smaller scar in several months? Today is my day 3 after the procedure. I am just worried because the hole is so noticeable. Thank you for your help.

Hello, dr.lam. I am thinking of getting scar revision done by the end of this year. I have a 12 inch laceration from the side of my ear, across my cheek and down to my chest. The assault happened on Febuary 5th of this year. How long should I wait until I should think about surgery.. And I was hoping I can get an estimate for the surgury and follow up treatment... I have pictures...

personally, i am not a fan of stitching up lines because it can lead to a scar. i would probably wait and let things heal over time.

Hi Dr. Lam, I thought Silicon gel or patch only work for keloid or raised scars. Do they work for pitted scar as well? Thank you!

Hi Dr. Lam, Sorry I couldn't post the picture. It has been 15 days post procedure and the scar that my doctor has mistakenly made is healing up,but it's still noticeable.Yesterday I went to see him for a follow-up and he said to just leave it alone. The scar is right above my smiling line on my left cheek that is a few centimeters long. I just stopped using Aquaphor yesterday and now I just use Cetaphil moisturizer lotion. Any there any creams that I could use to reduce the scar, Dr. Lam?

hey dr lam im 23yrs old i have a facial scar goin from my ear to the end of my cheek i got it from an attack nearly a year ago its bumpys and kinda of red now i want to get plastic surgery how much would this cost and will there be a diffrence??

it depends. i would have to see your mole. that can be done but the incision will have to be a big bigger.

no, silicone won't work for pitted scars. it is to help a scar after a revision not become a raised scar.
