Great review. It might be equally if not moreso geared towards working out, but your points are all more than valid for actual use.

You can remove the cummerbund on the Tetsudo and just use the straps, or you can remove the straps (They're attached with velcro strips at the edge of the plate carrier) and just use the cummerbund. I prefer it without the cummerbund and keep with a minimal load (3 mags on the chest, TQ holder on the shoulder strap, low profile pouch on the back) for fast deployment.

Just found your video. I have been using an AR500 Armor Testudo Gen2 Plate Carrier for a few weeks now. I am 6'2" and 265lbs for comparison. I got it just for rucking so the thick padding was nice for carrying the weight. I did remove the side buckles after getting my side plates as they pushed in on my ribs and much more comfortable with only the cummerbund. Main plates: 8.75lbs NorthGym 3D Weight Plates Side plates: 3lbs each CATI Armor I also added a Condor 3L Oasis Hydration Carrier for the warm weather here in California. For the last week I used my buddies 13.75lbs plates. Big difference was that they are flat so at first I felt the pressure on my chest, but otherwise the additional 10lbs wasn't really noticeable. Thanks for the review. USAF Veteran here.

Sounds like you have your vest for a similar reason I got mine. I like using it for rucking as well. We do a veterans ruck every November usually takes a few hours. I want a new vest too and I think AR500 is what I'm going to go with in the future. Yeah I thought the flat plates were odd at first too but still nice.

I've been doing research because I'm looking to buy one (wich is also why I'm watching this video) and I was looking at the testudo, and one of the reasons I am looking towards it more than any of the others is that if you are using the cummerbund you can remove the straps and buckles, or you can go the other way around and remove the cummerbund and just use the straps.

The Testudo does not come w/ mag pouches or sidearm holster. They are sold on the AR500 site but not included. I used the coupon code 'offensive' and got an extra 20% off the "Black November" sale. If you're patient most of their stuff goes on sale at one time or another. I don't remember exactly what I paid but I got the gen 2 Testudo w/ level 3 curved plates for under $200 shipped. Lead time was 4-5 weeks but mine actually shipped right around 3 weeks. Haven't been shot so I can't really tell you about performance but overall I am pleased w/ my carrier.

Upon seeing your comment I looked into it further and my handgun is a compact. However, I will still stand by my statement that I wouldn't want an attachment on my chest. IT was a little convoluted to adjust and would take some major breaking in before it would be practical and reliable. Just my opinion though! =)

Does anyone use their vest for both endurance and military training? Which best is best for that?
@Insight_Gaming
@Insight_Gaming 2 жыл бұрын
a ton of people use them for physical training as well as body armor. It just depends on whether or not you're okay with the extra wear and tear on the vest. I would not recommend the Condor for both. Either the Crye or the Tustedo from what Ive seen can handle both physical training as well as carry items for shooting training. IMO. Hope this helps.

Lots of steel plates getting grabbed up by first time buyers. I am curious if they have seen what happens when the rounds hit the plate, coated or not. Hopefully you don't bleed out from the leg wounds created by the fragging. Get ceramic/poly plates.

@kimuradon
@kimuradon 3 жыл бұрын
It's something to consider. When the round hits the steel it fragments and it sprays all over in the case of steel only plates, depending on the carrier. Some carriers kinda trap the copper and lead pieces. But if you have a high velocity round and a steel plate those fragments make that 90 degree turn on impact. And your limbs, hands and neck/face catch some of those metal shards. Just look at the cut line under a steel target next time you shoot. If you run steel plates for budget concerns, buy at least four TQ's. One for each limb. If you want to limit the chance of these shrapnel wounds buy the modern poly plates and the best carrier you can afford.
@ryanjacobsen9557
@ryanjacobsen9557 3 жыл бұрын
The steel plates are super super bad about that even with the coating on it you tend to get some pieces that still Escape I've seen it happen also even with some of the Ceramics pieces of the ceramic as well as the round if it's a super soft round some of the trunks are big enough to be lethal majority of the time it only goes in you maybe a quarter of an inch or so the bad part is is that when you get around that is shot at a hard angle it will almost skip off of it and if it's if you're leaned back at all it will actually hit the plate and Skip up and catch you in the bottom of the head area and still have lethal capability

When it comes to AR500 steel plates, you're good to go as long as you get the build up coating. Plenty of tests showing this. Just select the option they have for more coating and you'll be protected from spalling.

@@Insight_Gaming It's not at all subjective. Crye and LBT are made in America and issued to SOF units all over the world.
