It's back up now, it was just down for an hour and a half or so. Sorry about that!

The platinum ultra extra fine just looks like a fine to me. The rest look like medium. Platinum soft fine looks like a broad.

I don't have a review of the Plaisir, I'm afraid. I'll give that one some consideration.
@Gouletpens12 жыл бұрын
It could be a tine misalignment, that's the first suspect. The fact it's 18k actually doesn't have much to do with its smoothness, the tipping material on steel and 18k nibs is usually the same, and it all matters how its ground and aligned. Do you have a loupe to check out the tines?

Finnaly I can see a lamy Ef next to a platinum UEF!!!! Thank you so much xD I've been looking for that comparison all over the internet. I grew up writing with cheap asian pens so I've gotten quite fond of rather thin lines. The lamy EF is just not fine enough for me...

Be sure to check out our Nib Nook tool (www.gouletpens.com/nib-comparison-tool) with has writing samples of different pen brands/models across nib sizes. Super helpful for comparing before buying. - Colin

Great video, When do you think the site will be up again?
@Gouletpens12 жыл бұрын
Hmm...well I'm stumped. If your retailer will still take it back you could exchange it, or you could send it to a nibmeister to have it smoothed out.
@Gouletpens12 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to hear that! I've never used the President EF nib, but I don't believe it's supposed to be that way. Is it too late to talk to whoever sold you the pen? If so, you can always have it adjusted, it's a shame to have a pen that expensive not write well!

I love your pen/ink reviews! I searched your KZbin channel, but didn't find this - do you have a review of the Platinum Plaisir? So far it's the only pen I have experience with (besides the Preppy), and I'd like to see how the size, flow, etc, compare to some of the other pens you've reviewed. If so, please let me know, thanks!
@Gouletpens12 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it would probably work well for that!

Hi, Brian, I have literally watched this video more than 10 times right before and after I purchased my 3776 UEF nib, however I just couldn't get the wetness of my nib like yours, I don't know if it's due to the ink or I just got a dry nib, also my nib seems so much scratcher than yours, is this common for UEF nib or all of these differences are just my wired imagination? Thank you.
@Gouletpens6 жыл бұрын
UEF is definitely a dry writing pen. But ink definitely plays a major part. If you're looking for wet writing ink, some Noodler's can be a good option. Pilot Iroshizuku as well. - Colin
@imshoppaholic6 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Colin. I will try my Iroshizuku ink to see if it's making any difference. Sadly Noodler is not widely available here in Australia except a couple of really hugely marked up ones(I'm talking about 3 times more of Goulet price ), otherwise I would die for a bottle of Black swan in Australian roses. Again appreciate your prompt and on point reply.

@@imshoppaholic I recently received my #3776 in the UEF. If you are looking for a red, I loaded mine up with Noodler's Nikita. I've had no issues with this ink. Note, I'm not a fast writer and my handwriting is usually small. Fantastic pen nib that's for sure. Just thought I'd chime in.

Thank you so much for your message, I absolutely have not expected any reply five months after posting my question, it's such a wonderful platform for all of us pen lovers. My pen is better than it's first days especially after a couple of good washes, even thought it's still on dry side. I love it for sure! Thank you again, Randy, have a good one!

@nuwavghost I wonder if any of the Noodler's Eel inks would work. I had good results from using the Noodler's Nikita ink I didn't bother testing any of my Eel inks from Noodler's. Like I said before, I write slow and small so that may have been why the ink I used worked for me. I used the ink for one full cartridge (syringe filled) with no problems. Next time I'll try one of the Eel inks and see if I notice a difference in ink distribution.

I love both, really. I like the Custom 74 a little more though, that nib is just a little springier. The Platinum nibs are pretty stiff, which is fine, especially when you're writing with a smaller nib size and trying to be precise. But I like my broader nibs to have a little bounce to them, and the Custom 74 does that.
@SuperReeseP8 жыл бұрын
The Goulet Pen Company when you were talking about how the custom 74 is springier than the 3776, which 3776 were you referring to? Thank you

Thanks for sharing this video. Brian, how does the soft fine of the Platinum 3776 compare with the Pilot 91's? Which is softer? TIA.
@arunabhalahiri49317 жыл бұрын
I love my preppy ef, but the body is too fragile, so thinking of an upgrade. I suppose 3776 ef is a bit wetter. Does it feel the same to write with it? Also had a carbon desk pen, as much as I liked the shape the ink flow was not good. Suppose it was a faulty nib.
@Gouletpens7 жыл бұрын
The 3776 has a gold nib so it's a bit smoother & softer (though not as much as other gold nibs) than the Preppy. But if you liked the writing experience with the Preppy EF, then it's a good upgrade! - Colin

How do you like this pen in comparison to the Custom 74?
@drananth4 жыл бұрын
Just got a my Platinum #3776 Century Bourgogne with UEF nib. I wanted a ball point replacement with quick drying qualities. So I paired it with Platinum Carbon Ink. Looks wise, the pen is gorgeous. The UEF nib looks elegant. As for writing so far, the nib feels dry as a bone. Writing seems to be an effort. Hardly any flow. Also had the pen and the converter rinsed twice with water. It writes somewhat uninterrupted when the pen is turned almost 90degrees counterclockwise (I'm right handed) The tines (or whatever it is that I'm looking at..) seem alligned. I'm thinking it's the choice of ink. I'm going to try to change the ink to a Mont Blanc Royal Blue and hope the problem gets sorted out.
@drananth3 жыл бұрын
@@user-bv1ss5nj9b my apologies for not updating my post. I contacted my pen dealer and he immediately asked to see the unit. On inspection, the tines appeared to be extremely tight. He adjusted it. The result was amazing. The flow was unbelievably smooth for a UEF. Of course we need to compare the feedback against other EF or UEF. But this serves my purpose of having a permanent replacement for a ball point pen. Been almost 7 months now. Not going back. I use Mont Blanc Royal Blue, Platinum Carbon Black and Sailor Blue Ink. All inks give excellent results now. Try talking to your pen dealer. They can do wonders.

Which do you prefer between the platinum soft fine or extrq fine?
@ziggyzheng10 жыл бұрын
Could you do a comparison between Pilot falcon (namiki) SEF and platinum century soft nibs? the falcon SEF has been reviewed to be scratchy and platinum pens in general are reviewed to be smoother but with compensated line variation Many thanks, Z

Zinggy Zheng Oh yes and also the platinum maki-e , since those are soft as well

How can a nib as fine as that ultra extra fine not have more flex than you show on your writing example?
@Gouletpens11 жыл бұрын
I wasn't trying to flex it, perhaps I could have shown it a little better. But it's not a 'soft' nib, Platinum's nibs are pretty stiff in general (unless they're designated as soft). -Brian Goulet
@Gouletpens12 жыл бұрын
I believe most Cross pens use proprietary Cross converters, and since I don't sell Cross nothing I have will work for your pen. I'm sorry! You'll need to get a Cross brand converter to fit it.

Can we swap the nib with Goulet fine nib. Platinum fine nib is ver scratchy.
@Gouletpens6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not. Platinum uses proprietary nibs so there aren't replacement nib options. - Colin

the price difference on gouletpens vs amazon is generally very different, which makes me think are the ones sold on amazon authentic or is the pricing on goulet pens too steep. for the Platinum 3776 amazon sells this for around $70 whereas on goulet its in the range of $150-$216 +Shipping.

There's a couple different factors as to why that might be the case, Brian talks about it pretty in-depth in a Q&A slice if you want to check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZzCdKlroN2Jb68 - Colin
