Super helpful! Thanks so much for comparing all the cheaper Platinum models, I LOVE my preppy's but they are not the cutest, I like the aesthetic of the Shooting Star better, so now I have some options 💕

Platinum going for the Pilot Kakuno look I see. I did purchase two of these Little Shooting Star's as well, and the are just great writers. Do love that they come with converters as well.

Might make a nice first platinum pen. I especially like the marker options because you can fall back on that if you replace it as a writer. Very cool.

Platinum pens are some of the smoothest writing experiences I've ever had. Even the preppies are fantastic!

Just ordered one form Ali and then decided to check if it's a real Platinum. Looks cute, glad I got it, especially since both the preppy and prefonte are sort of ugly.

I just got 2 of these from aliexpress and I haven't been able to distinguish them from the Preppy. I have so many Preppy pens and highlighters now that I don't think I'll ever have to buy another one again lol. Great video :)

Thank you for the video: another cute pen I've never seen before. I love my Plaisirs and the medium nib is so smooth. The nib on the Shooting Star is really very pretty... I'm off to do some research now.

Thank you for the review video, I love the color ink you used too! I have only just bought my 1st platinum preppy fountain pen, so I'm very new and wondered how this one compared, and if it wrote similarly and you said it did so thank you! What are your top 3 favorite colored inks, and is this converter easy enough to figure out for a newbie to load that ink? I appreciate your opinion, thank you so much!! Ps. I also subscribed 🙂
@WhatIInk2 жыл бұрын
Converters are probably THE easiest filling mechanisms for beginners (aside from cartridges). 3 fav inks? Sorry, I really just...can't.. I have >200 bottles of ink and picking just 3, or 5 or 10 or even 20 would not be possible.

Hello, Alan! I subscribed to your channel, in fact it's the first time I subscribed to any KZbin channel, and the first channel I ever subscribed to is yours! I also enabled notifications too so that new content can be see by me! I never actually seen or used a Platinum pen before, especially not the Little Shooting Star. I'm considering to purchase a Preppy OR the Prefounte OR EVEN a Little Shooting Star model here. I would love to know the writing experience of these pens because they are just so affordable! Today, we all have to wear face masks in order to prevent cross-infection, especially during the COVID lockdown. I would urge you to be safe in New York, and we can get through these tough times as soon as the virus goes away in some months. The ink pairing is close to good. Have a great day!

thank you so much for this review ! i only own one fountain pen (lamy safari x bt21 collab) & have been looking at a platinum meteor x hello kitty fountain pen also on aliexpress. since i don't know much about fountain pens i am looking to learn more, & this review was really helpful ! the title says "meteor" and not "small meteor" but i'm thinking it will be similar since it looks like there's a lot of compatibility with the other platinum pens. excited to purchase it ! & as you said in the video, i liked, commented, and subscribed :)

Can you give a link from which you bought this pen ? I can’t find it on eBay! Thanks! And I always like that you give some attention to the inks you write with as well as the pens! That Photon is beautiful.
Thanks a lot for this link! Can you also give us a link for the ink you used? Thanks a lot!!!

Not familiar with ‘Preppy variants’ still working thro’ my Pilot Prera fixation - this opens up a whole other can of worms!; thanks for doing another Japanese pen vid(like nice fine nibs!); also like look of that Colorverse ink: looks like it might be quite close to J Herbin vert reseda but never sure how colour accurate my screen is :)

Timely video. Today I am searching a way to buy a couple more Preppy's to get "extra" nibs from which to shape a stub. I did not know about this variant of the Preppy-based modular pens. It appears the AliExpress vendors saw this video in the last nine hours and raised the price a couple of dollars. In the past week or so I have bought a Prefounte and a coupe of Preppy "Signature" nylon markers (to try with fountain pen inks.) However, the real fun will come when I get an extra medium in-house and can grind off the tipping to try to create a stub. I assume the medium is wider behind the tipping than the Fine. Anyone out there able to confirm this? Sadly only certain Preppy colors seem to ship with the medium as an option. At least that's what I find at USA retailers as of these past couple of days... BTW, my new Prefounte (M-nib) is very wet (excellent!) in eyedropper mode - Monteverde Olivine in the Emerald Prefounte.
@WhatIInk4 жыл бұрын
The nibs themselves get wider, it's not just the tipping. See this shot of 0.2mm, 0.3mm and 0.5mm Preppy nibs: imgur.com/a/p4pPR8B
@JonathanXLVII4 жыл бұрын
@@WhatIInk Ah! VERY clear difference. Thank you for posting a link to that photo. That's why I planned to source several "0.5mm Medium" Preppies to get multiple nibs to ruin while I figure out how to do this. And let's see whether I have the skill to be able to choose "stub" vs. "italic" in my resulting DIY. Since watching your video earlier today I did a bit of sourcing research and decided to live with the Preppy model as the "delivery vehicle" for my nib-victims. ("Experiments...")
@marmeemarch70804 ай бұрын
Any update? How did your "stub" turn out?
@JonathanXLVII3 ай бұрын
@@marmeemarch7080 The best result regrinding these simple nibs was a less-aggressive left-footing the nib's tipping and pulling the tines apart a bit to create very wet flow. More character but not as clean an italic as an untipped stub with sharp shoulders. In the four years since I left that comment I have bought more vintage pens for their exquisite nibs and haven't done much regrinding of less-expensive pens - to get the same look. I still like personalizing Ahabs for more interesting handwriting, though. You can buy 6-pack bags of untipped Noodler's flex #6 nibs and left- and right-foot them, widen them, roll off the shoulders. Fun!

It looks like Platinum is making the same Preppy with different shells, but, at the end of teh day, with this pen, Prefounte and others you end up having the Preppy's section and nib! I have 2-3 Preppies... and think these are not for me!
@joshuanorris58604 жыл бұрын
Not for you? But you bought 3 of them :P I think i know what you mean tho. Your saying why pay more when its basicly the exact same writing experiance as the preppy? Because the preppy is ugly :D and because this pen is still very cheap. And all the parts are swappable which i think is a good thing not a bad thing :P

@@joshuanorris5860 I mean I have 3 Preppies bought years and years ago... and no more LOL. Sorry - English is not my language.

While this may be heresy to say, platinum's cheaper line of pens don't do much for me, the preppy gets a lot of praise for being very versatile with the way you can use them however I'm not really into the crystal and the standard preppy looks down right ugly with all the labeling. This shooting star definitely look very appealing however there aren't any gray or black models which is a shame since I really find that shooting star nib to be quite unique, the prefounte looks good but I'm not really into demonstrators, the plaisir however looks pretty interesting even with that semi transparent section.

I just wish the preppy had a better capping mechanism. I've been using mine for eternity and the snap cap has worn out to the point that the cap pretty much falls off. Then again preppys are
@i.c.31574 жыл бұрын
@@Savings_and_Grift_Plan I'm more surprised that it lasted you so long that the capping system gave out before the pen did, I had a preppy and it only last me around 2-3 months until I noticed some micro cracks at the end of the cap which lead to serious cracks within a week after that I just tossed it because to me it was more trouble than it was worth, I never babied it but I never treated it like a ballpoint either so I'm guessing I just got a dud.

Platinum nibs rock!: my favourite pen is my Platinum 3775 Century w EF nib in Chartreuse Blue w rhodium trim - this has a screw cap and will not wear out: if you are able to make the jump, I would highly recommend:)
@i.c.31574 жыл бұрын
@@anguswhite8233 For me the 3776 in the Bourgogne finish with silver trim and a soft fine nib has been on my radar however the price varies between $160 and $200, which is just way too high for me to justify. At the moment the most expensive pen I own is the Lamy cp1 which was bought second hand and came with a Extra Fine nib, Broad nib, and the Z27 converter, all for $50 plus $5 for shipping.

It is China made. It is characteristic of china to copy and make imitations. I like the tube container and i plan to buy it because mainly of the tube container not for its name which is made to sound japanese or korean.
@frustratedalien6663 жыл бұрын
It is manufactured by Platinum for the Chinese market. It isn't a "copy" or "imitation". Pilot does the same. They have manufacturing facilities all over South East Asia
