I love Tom, because he makes me think about the world we live in. I have found that one side of my family traces back to the Revolutionary War, which makes me proud, but they were slaveholders, which is saddening. On the other side, though, at least two of my ancestors came to America in the 1800s as indentured servants. Ambivalence is inherent. On one hand, should I be paying "reparations," but on the other, should I receive them? Keep spitting Tom, thinking is required, but can be painful at the same time.

And if there is one part of that community that really rubs him the wrong way, its the transgender community who are just a little too out there. I spent 20 years in the navy and was surrounded by people from all walks of life (and color). Some of the black people I was stationed with told me the funniest white people jokes I’ve ever heard. I laughed so hard my stomach hurt! And yes, I’m white. Comedy brings people together. As long as they don’t get “offended”!

The real issue is, society today relies on too many excuses to justify their own hatred, and they love to project that hatred upon anyone who disagrees. The problem with those excuses is that they are giving power to something you say you hate, it's literally a failure to maintain emotions, the same people claim they are in touch with their feelings, but hate itself is a feeling and they deny it, and how can you be in touch with a feeling you deny it's existence in you? That assumption of perfection, that they think they can do no wrong, is what usually sets those same people up for a hard failure.
