@Black Pegasus Here is an interesting story in regards to this song. When Weird Al asked Coolio's label if he could parody the song they quickly agreed but Coolio didn't. For years Coolio held a grudge against Weird Al because of it. Coolio eventually realized that Weird Al wasn't doing it as an insult and that all these other great artists, like MJ, didn't have a problem with Weird Al paroding their songs than why should he? He ended up apologizing to Weird Al and they ended up being cool with each other.

Yeah, so sometimes people don't realize that you don't actually need permission from anyone to do a parody, it's completely legal, Weird Al would just ask out of common courtesy. One artist who never ever gave him permission, so he never did any of his songs, was Prince. So, no Weird Al parodies of Prince songs exist, because he never gave him permission.

When he did the lines, "There's no phone, no lights, no motorcar, not a single luxury. Like Robinson Crusoe, it's as primitive as can be", that is part of the theme song for Gilligan's Island. Touching on what you said about technology, yes, it is good to disconnect once in a while. Me and some friends of mine used to gather on the 4th at a buddy's lakehouse every year to drink and shoot off fireworks. Cell reception was very spotty out there, so what I would usually do is just turn my phone off and toss it in my bag. I'd (maybe) turn it on and try to check messages once a day (just in case of a family emergency or something), but otherwise, the phone stayed in my bag, and stayed off. It's a nice feeling to unplug from the net for a few days.

It used to be that Amish did not use any form of electricity at all in the last 10 to 20 years most Amish have become more progressive. The majority of Amish now can you use electricity as long as they're not tied into the grid, OR own the building that the electricity is coming from. Solar is very popular in the Amish communities now. The solid color dressing it's still a thing, but they are not limited to the black blue or gray anymore depending on their specific order. Some will allow purples and pinks to be worn.

So glad that you going down the Weird Al rabbit hole. He is so talented - the production values are on point, the videos really clever - and the lyrics - it is not easy to write on a specific topic, whilst maintaining a connection to the original - it is so clever. In making this video - he explained how dangerous the barn toppling on him was - to keep the structure stable so that is would not flex - it was incredibly sturdy - and therefore very dangerous - so in paying homage to Buster keaton style stunt, it was dangerous - if the calculations had not worked - it would have killed him! Also he had to learn the lyrics backwards to have the last chorus played to a film that was run backwards. he said that he remembered those lyrics for about 3 months afterwards, and then they drifted away! You need to show this to your mate Joe who is the videographer, see what he makes of this film - it really is well shot All about the Pentiums (all about the Benjamins), Fat (Bad) Smells Like Nirvana (smells like teen spirit) - are all worth a watch. I agree with you. Also probably why there is less autism. It tends to run in families and if there aren't families who have had the genetic variations that cause it being introduced into the gene pool, it hasn't been introduced as widely and the cases that do appear are purely from normal mutation. Plus it's far less likely to get diagnosed in an Amish community.

@@kyletucker3811 That's possible, but I'd chalk it up more to lack of reporting. They are actually very nice people. I used to go to their communities and pick up antiques from them. One group was my favorite , the hook & eye Dutch . They made their own shoes, the laces half way up are called the hooks , the bottom holes the eyes.

Although they are definitely dark and twisted, why has no one recommended either "Christmas at Ground Zero" or "The Night Santa Went Crazy" You'd've thunk the record company would have learned not to force Weird Al to do a Christmas tune after "Christmas at Ground Zero", but they demanded another.

Generally speaking, the Mennonites are Amish who do not shun fancy things like electricity. They drive cars and have lights and appliances but they are still very strictly religious in the same way that the Amish are. From what I know and learned about them when I lived outside of Lancaster PA for a few years. For instance I saw many at the local Texas Roadhouse eating whenever I went but you'd never see a full Amish family there. The Amish did however go to Walmart. Matter of fact, Walmart has a special covered area with water and hay for the horses the Amish would bring when they came to Walmart . I always thought that was so cool! You need to listen to Weird Al's "Word Crimes". THAT is a great song.

Werid Al is a fckn genius when it comes to parodies, he perfected the genre if that's a thing, Madonna and Michael Jackson were friends of his so it was easy to use their songs in the beginning....that was the mid 80s and it only got better from there. Great reaction. 40!

I have lived, all my life, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, close to the Amish community. They are good people but they are now having problems with being overweight and diabetes. They can't afford to buy farmland and they are starting businesses like roofing and homebuilding, making beautiful furniture and Kitchen cabinets. They do leather work too. They make harnesses for their horses and they sell to the English. ( If you are not Amish, you are English) oh, the stories I could tell you.

There must be a happy and healthy medium. I live in L.A., CA and not near an Amish community. I have a friend that does, and one can visit the Amish community where they are selling their goods. My friend said it is delicious. Plus, it is healthy since they grow and farm what they need. My three favorite scenes in this video are the sun dial, the Coolio hairstyle and the exaggerating perspiration pouring down Weird Al's face. I believe the blond lady was Florence Henderson, Mrs. Brady of the TV Brady Bunch. I believe most of the descriptions/lifestyles of the Amish is true. I saw an Amish Paradise reaction with a once Amish raised girl and her friend was questioning her, is that true on this and that. One thing I found interesting, the Amish clothing does not use buttons. She did not say how their clothing closes, but I assume buttons were around longer than zippers. This video brings the adults back to living a simpler life, home grown foods and hard work in doing farming, building structures, maybe walking/exercise if they do not have the horse and buggy, clean/fresher air due to the lack of industrial, equipment. Also, it does not expose children what they watch and listen too. This video is good for children to watch, not for the comedy, but to show what the Amish do not have and the kid's appreciation of what their parents provide them and not abuse their privileges. I am in my 60's, do kids nowadays do chores for privileges or receiving an item/gadget. I have not watched it, but there is a reality show, showing once the Amish kid turns 18 years old, they get one year to experience the current ways of life in the big city. They then decide if they want to come back to the community or stay and live this new life. I do not know what percentage that goes back to their old lifestyle. I do not know what their religion is, the rules they obey, and what is proper in their lifestyle (the old Mormon's men got to have more than one wife, go pick the men for their daughters and the girl might be younger than 18 years and made to marry. but they can use the current conveniences. As long as the consenting adult wants it, the man can afford several wives and many, many children, that's fine with me. Just keep things in your house and recruit others that do not know better). I assume, the children do not know any better what the world has and do not know what they are missing. There is this KZbin show I watch, What the Hales. They had an episode of them visiting an Amish community. It might be interesting for your older daughter and watch the everyday Amish person (the ladies wearing traditional outfits) do and make things that daddy will just go to Home Depot and buy off the shelves (except the horseshoer). This community has an open flatbed trailer, and I assume it was pulled by some animal; with the tourist can tour their lands and from the seats, feed the farm animals. Some animals were not so traditional on a farm. Visiting and feeding the animals is something I would like, along in trying their pastries. The previous person mentioned to watch Weird Al's Word Crimes. It was funny, but educational. I do not listen to much newer music, but Weird Al, by people who are aware of the original videos say, the cadence is on point, putting his words in the melody of the original song. I have seen different versions of Weird Al's video and the video of Fat and Eat It there is a version with Weird Al's video is side by side of the original video and one can see how the dance moves are being copied by Weird Al. Back in the 1970's, I remember Weird Al and him playing his accordion and it being nonsense. Today, I am viewing his later videos, and I did not know he did these types of videos when they first came out. So, I am catching up. It is interesting reading the back story of the parody, especially with Eat It and Bad. The original performer helped with the making of the video and making it look authentic. Sometimes it is good to watch the original so you can pick up little hints of the original, or if you want to be surprised, watch Weird Al's first, then watch the original and go back to watch Weird Al's for the comparison. Some videos are not from a music video, some are from an event or movie and it you will get the funniness if you know the movie.

About the Joe Rogan "facts" - JR is great to learn the difference between causation and correlation, because he is a prime example of getting it wrong. Autism in Utah is probably underreported, or just plainly refuted as existent by medical professionals with religious agendas. Context matters.

Claims that ASD appears in lower rates in Amish communities are not backed by scientific evidence. They typically cite a single study from 2010 in which a few thousand children were examined and diagnosed and found that it was less prevalent in that sample group. That doesn't mean anything except for that sample group. As for Amish people being healthier in general, that is true due to their lifestyle and diets, however they also have much higher rates of breast cancer and juvenile leukemia.

@lucretialee369124 күн бұрын
Last I heard there is a hereditary link that tends to follow down the male side, not the cause of all autism, but very prevalent. So that can also be a factor why more insular communities have lower to no cases.
@jamescurfman328424 күн бұрын
Well OF COURSE it is not backed by 'scientific evidence'! The Amish HATE going to modern Hospitals in order for any of this to get recorded, all of that goes against their beliefs! Try scoring a brain before attempting logic. This stuff isn't anywhere near 'rocket science' but you made it very clear that it is definitely above your pay grade. Try again when you grow up, AFTER graduating Sixth Grade.
