Waylon was an absolute legend. He started as Buddy Holly's bass player, and gave up his seat on the plane to ride in the tour bus that had no heat on the night Buddy, The Big Booper and Ritchie Valens were killed when that plane crashed. This song was indeed written for The Dukes Of Hazzard, and Waylon actually starred in the show as The Balladeer. When a man said something like "Looks like the Duke boys have got themselves into a heap of trouble" or something to that effect, Waylon was the guy talking. The only time you saw Waylon on the show, however, was in the opening scene, but all you saw was his hands and his guitar, thus the verse "they keep showing my hands and not my face on TV". This is a deep, deep rabbit hole to dive into. Waylon was a member of The Highwaymen, a group that also included Kriss Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash, but his solo career was amazing. I'm not sure he put out a bad song.

@vladyvhv95794 ай бұрын
He's not silent. He's just up in Heaven giving everyone else up there a proper snarky narration on the rest of us down here. Also, there's a couple of episodes that do feature him as himself, and the "Balladeer" referring to Waylon as himself. So, one could take away from that setup that the entirety of the show is Waylon telling some people the stories of the Dukes.

This version that appeared on the album was tweaked slightly from what was played on the Dukes of Hazzard show, the biggest change coming at the end as Waylon sings: I’m a good ol’ boy You know my momma loves me But she don’t understand They keep a showin my hands and not my face on TV He's referring to the only shot in The Dukes of Hazzard in which you actually see him. The show always opened with him playing guitar, but he is only visible from the neck down.

Waylon is the man. He and Willie Nelson were the original outlaws. They changed Country music forever and that’s part of the whole Outlaw thing. Nashville wouldn’t let them do their music their way, so they went to Texas and brought to life this “new” music that the Nashville people couldn’t deny. Their first record together “The Outlaws” sold in incredible numbers for that day and age. Effron White has a song called, “High Waylon Highway” that tells the story.

This was the opening Song for the Series Dukes of Hazard - that every kid of the 80s watched every week - it was so funny and so silly. Waylon was phenomenal country music man and before that he was the bassist for the famous Buddy Holly. So many great songs and we was outside the Nashville sound parameters and was referred to as a country outlaw - just means he added some rock and blues beats with some electric guitar drums and bass with that great motion. Love Nashville sound but would describe it more as cleaned up country music with many classics - Floyd Cramer, Charlie Pride Conway Twitty and so many others. You should check out the original Dukes of Hazard - you will laugh yourself silly. Cheers to ole Boss Hogg, Cooter, Roscoe P Coltrane and all those classic characters. Note there was Dukes of Hazard Movie with different characters. This was the opener to the Dukes of Hazard TV series which was laters 70s and 80s - was just a classic so funny.

Not only did Waylon sing the song, he narrated it too! Like when it would say something like...boy them oh Duke Boys are sure in a pickle. Just an example! He said that was the easiest money He ever made!! Said sometimes he would record it on the bus & mail it to them!! lol The part in the song, is a true story. Where he said his mom would say why they keep showing your hands but not your face on TV! Waylon would get a chuckle out of that!! Another true story song Waylon sings is Outlaw bit! The whole story about that, isn't on the song. But the part that is, is very interesting!! Also, his real name was Wayland, but he didn't think it sounded that cool, so he dropped the d! I ❤ me some Waylan Jennings!! His wife Jessi Coulter was also part of the Outlaw Movement!! Jessi played the keyboard for him. I think that was before they were married. But if I like the words & meaning, the music is always good!! He also done one later in his life with his wife Jessi Coulter called Honkey Tonk Angels! That's a great live song!! I'm glad Pegasus introduced me to this channel first off, I enjoy it a lot. If you want a video, John Schneider, Bo Duke, was a country singer after the show and he made a tribute version after we lost Waylon ND it's worth it.

Waylon produced an excellent musician in Shooter. Shooter did a whole album with Yelawolf called Sometimes Y. That whole album is fire.

Please check out more Waylon! My favorite country artist ever. “Lonesome, o’nry and mean” is a great next song.

"Hazard County" is fictional, but was supposed to be in Georgia. He was title the "Balladeer" for the show...the last line "I'm a good ol' boy, you know my mama loves me....but she don't understand why they keep showing my hands and not my face on TV." kinda explains it himself. Hahaha, Struggle does resemble Macho Man, ahhahaha. OOOOOOOOOHHHHH YEAAAAHHHH!!

Bit of history about Daisy Duke's shorts, in the 1950's there was a comic book series called Li'l Abner, his girlfriend was named Daisy Mae. She was wearing that style of short shorts and mini shirts. Her shorts were called Daisy Mae's... I'm guessing her style had quite a bit of influence on Miss Duke's style.
