The thing is, during Champs 2023, they did enjoy all the games from group stage to playoff even if they lost it. But, when it comes to GF, they looked very pressured and were not enjoying the games itself.

Commeting before watching the video - As a PRX fan, I think it's the mental. They overthink too much sometimes and just make mistakes they don't usually do during the grand finals - at least for VCT major tournaments. VCT Copenhagen - they had many tricks for Breeze, and I think it 9-13 is already a great score for that weird 'troll' comp. FPX just had better aim that day. VCT Tokyo - not having smth really forced them to play a different comp, and they did a damn good job hitting 3rd. VCT LA - I think they felt the pressure because of jinggg - pulling out the old bind comp, which itself was already questionable, and also did really questionable plays, there were a few attacking rounds Jinggg solo pushed showers and died without any trades. If they had continued with their 2023 comp, they might have won that map - just like how they stuck to their ascent comp and won this time, when they lost that map to EG during upper finals. They tried to play their chamber comp against Optic back in Copenhagen on Bind, and they lost that, too. But credit where credit is due, EG's whole team showed up for GF. Against Sentinels, Sentinels just felt like the better team from the start, better strats and aim and everything. I think the reason why PRX is so fun to watch is because they keep getting away with ridiculous plays that don't make sense - but these plays get punished when it matters the most. BUT their strats seem to have developed a lot more this year compared to last year, so that's something I appreciate. After watching the video - they actually toned down on the (dumb) aggression alot this year, last year they made a lot of plays where they just kept running it down without utilities and just die. You could see from the video, Reyna and skye flashed out B long on Bind, but they didn't see anyone at fountain - they immediately made the call to fall back and not overextend. EDIT: Once again, great analysis with the stats, some of what I wrote kinda agree with your points. One thing that was weird was that PRX actually played Cypher on Lotus in the Pacific League to great success, but they swapped him for astra and continued running that strat, which, like you mentioned, got punished in champs

Although I want paper rex to win a finals, I don't want them to change their aggressive style. Because I believe they're the only team that can make the aggressive style double dive duelist work. I want them to show everyone that valorant can also be played this way.
@platoonval
@platoonval 6 ай бұрын
I don't either but double duelist doesn't necessarily mean you can't run a Sentinel or Viper on certain maps! There has to be some sort of tradeoff but I think they can mainly keep their aggressive style and maybe do it more confidently if they have more reliable stall on the weak side of the map. This is why something has started to play Gekko for them too.

The series vs FPX i think was their best chance so far. It was before PRX had so much experience so the mistakes were more understandable but man they SHOULD have won breeze. They brought out this comp nobody could prep for and were consistently finding early round advantages. Unfortunately they were equally as consistent at throwing that advantage away by over pushing. The early round pushes were SO good if they would have just backed off a little after the initial push they would have won their first ever finals appearance.

I think what they're missing is that extra special sauce where teams adapt to counter strats in the same tournament. PRX remind me of 2019 Liquid in the sense that they had a really good unique thing going, but lacked the finesse against people who counter strat them. I think they just need to understand their weaknesses so they can adapt to enemy adaptations during the tournament because they rarely show that just like Liquid cs was in 2019.

I think despite not having an international major trophy they are still one of the best teams valorant has and had, they are easily the best team to have not won a trophy and it would be hard to believe if in the chapter of PRX in the story of valorant there was not at least one major trophy recorded

For me its simply down to bad luck and indivual performances not turning up due to the pressure. Okay against FPX sure they are first time in that stage, they are young inexperience, in masters theyre whole gameplan without something was to just wing it in champions i think they got outclassed by 1-2 players namely demon1s (spilt) and com (ascent 2v1) which really changed the tide of the game i still think they are a top 3 team in the world rn the recent korea event just showed how strong sentinels really are when they are on their game (we saw that after the vct that they have what it takes just needed abit more time) with john coming in they look super complete and defo look like they are a champs ready team.

8:10 for graphs like these, the difference is only 3% between the two groups of teams shown. I would love to know the total number of rounds looked at to get a feel of how much that 3% means? Because at least at face value, 73% vs 70% doesn’t feel like a big difference. Anyways, love your use of stats to tie into your analysis, it’s very interesting to see some of the graphs, especially the intro graph with round durations!
@platoonval

Great point and I'm always trying to figure out a better way to include sample sizes and other indicators in the graphics. Definitely hard to say exactly how important 3% is but if you're winning 3 more rounds per 100, it could definitely add up! I couldn't get it to look good so just left it out this time but others have requested them so I'll incorporate them more in the future! For you here are some numbers: Ex: Team Name [Rounds Won After First Blood on DEF] [Total First Bloods on DEF] Paper Rex 269 367 0.7329700272479565 LOUD 241 342 0.7046783625730995 FNATIC 229 313 0.731629392971246 EG 337 479 0.7035490605427975

If Prx can bring or fit a controller sentinel combo, their aggressive defenses can be the most lethal of all the team. Hoping to see PRX to go on and achieve victory in maor tourney in 2024

The reason why they won so many ppl’s hearts is also the reason why they haven’t won anything to prove themselves. One reason u didn’t touch on is actually the way they can just throw rounds bc the players themselves can’t tone down their aggression. One round for example is the xeppaa ace clutch back in lock in. It was an impossible round to lose, but prx always finds a way to I’m not a fan of prx, but imagine if they had a good igl and coaching staff who commands the team instead of letting them roam free, or if the players just listened and are more competent, they could’ve been a dynasty
@platoonval
@platoonval 6 ай бұрын
I did have a section on this but IMO its a tradeoff to be the best at this style. Players need to feel empowered and confident to take peeks and fights. Looking at the way they play, I'm really confused why they don't incorporate Chamber more into their comps. Chamber loves both sides of their defensive playbook. He is happy to wait on the other side of the map, holding down a large area solo to get a pick before getting out and playing retake (which they tend to do already) and he also loves to go with the aggressive side to stay in a pushed up position, while the rest of the team rotates away.

They usually overthinking, tried to counterplan, like when we saw they use Neon in the decider map vs FPX, they do this multiple time to recreate something new, unexpected, but some players seems need time to fit the role, for example when Something using Breach in Fracture, he usually just buy sheriff instead of flash when eco XD, but Someting being Something, he can get some kills

Once their play gets read, Paper Rex start to crumble. You'll actually notice it when rewatching their Champions Grand Final against EG and the AfreecaTV League Finals against Sentinels.

I believe, if for once they play a tournament to win and not just play for fun, they can win easily.. But then i guess we wont enjoy that PRX as much as we do this.. I think a big chunk, if not half, of the valorant fun would be lost if there isnt PRX...

I don't think jinggg would keep playing after afreecaTv? The reason benkai was kicked was because alecks believed 6 man roster is bad and they need to focus on building synergy with only 5 man roster. If they keep playing in a 6 man roster shuffle then their agent pool would rise, but that would contradict on the reason why their original thinking when they kicked benkai

Mmm Forsaken was the KJ player on Pearl though, and outside of that map they never really picked KJ over Cypher or even no Sentinel agents at all

PRX just reinvent themselves by putting Something on Gekko. Now he's the craziest Gekko in valorant, taking op in really aggressive angle, get out and stall. However Monyet still haven't found his place within the team yet. He's either too slow or too far from the team and it costed them several rounds in Masters. He still haven't shared the same single braincells like the rest of the boys.. yet. He's no replacement for Jingg but let's be fair,, no one can. He need to find his own role within PRX.
