Hi, I have a 500gb Toshiba 3.5" DT01ACA050 with 50 years of my music collection on it and it just went dead. It shows up in My PC but it take a while for the green bar to go across the top, but it will not allow Disk manager to populate but there is no clicking sounds. I have tried a couple of recovery software but none of them can read it. Do you have any ideas and would it be possible for me to swap the platter as a last hope to try and recover it. I have the exact same hard drive only it is a 1tb for a donor if it would work. Thanks.

Unless you're working on a very old drive they all have embedded servo. Tracks are tiny enough that thermal expansion is enough to change where the tracks are between platters if there's a slight temperature difference. Only thing radial alignment can affect is the speed, but that's not a big deal for recovery.

wait? Did you remove the disks and not maintain their positioning? I thought it was necessary to keep the exact position. I thought that if you removed them this way, it would misalign the disks and consequently the hard drive would no longer know how to position itself. Curious.

Hey ppl can someone help. I had my 4tb hard drive formatted to HFS from when i had a mac. I learned my lesson the hard way and will never buy a mac again the robbing F**k’s. i Had my drive since then and used a software called paragon HFS+ to access the drives data on my Windows Pc (I no longer have a mac) . I thought to myself recently damn i really need to address this problem and back everything up and format the drive to NTFS. I managed to get a folder of about 480gb off it because it was missing loads of files when i tried to copy all of it . I originally tried to clone it with AEOMI or whatever it is but because its HFS formatted on a windows pc the drive was undetectable. But im now in a situation where im Trying to copy the rest of the stuff but the drive wont even be detected by windows anymore i plug it in and i hear the beep as though its recognised a disk has been plugged in but the drive doesn’t show even in disk management. It does make a weird high pitched noise a couple times when i first plug it in (which it didnt before) and then it starts spinning up. Ive used multiple softwares to try and detect the drive stellar data recovery , recuva etc etc with (Medicat). But the drive is just straight up not being detected. If i plug the drive in before booting the pc up the pc doesnt boot but the second i remove the drive it will boot. I think hfs+ has corrupted the drive in a wierd firmwarey kinda way. I have tried to go down the route of borrowing someone’s mac and using the diskutil to try repair the disk and rebuild the file structure. But again even on mac its still not being detected as a drive that can be mounted at all. I think ive boiled it down to physical damage but it doesnt necessarily make sense because i can still hear the disk spinning fine and the light on the drive is flashing as thought data is being transfer or theres a checkdisk process happening. Also even after waiting hours or it being plugged in its still not detected. Any ideas ? I cant afford forensic data recovery at all. Dont suppose as a data recovery KZbinr you would want be a hero and try fix the drive recover it and make a video out of it ? 😂🙏😭

@hddrecoveryservices

It's actually a really good question and a valid one. I guess it all comes down to feeling the device. Gloves would leave prints too, just not as much so it's not really an absolute shield. If gloves are restrictive for some people to perform their best, I'd rather have them not wear gloves, and get the finished job speak for the importance of wearing them. Also if the person knows how to get rid off the client's fingerprints, he definitely knows what to do if the disk gets marked up by his/her own. We are not touching the disk during the procedure even when it gets flipped upside down for cleaning the bottom side. The work is done in a laminar flow bench at all times and internals get pressure blasted before the lead seals up again
