You're using a 5 gallon beer kit but put only two and a half gallons of water in the pot (5:50). I presume the volume is made up after the boil is over. Is this usual? Can it be done with any kind of beer? It has a huge advantage, both in boiling and cooling, over using the full volume from the start.
@PlattR2 жыл бұрын
That is correct. You'll add cold water which will get you to the right volume and down to the right temperature faster.

Hey Platt. So I followed all the directions to make my beer. After bottling it I let it sit for 2 weeks so it would carbonate. They all came out flat. Is there something I could of done wrong.
@PlattR7 жыл бұрын
Did you add sugar to the bottles before your capped them? Also, at what temperature were the bottles sitting at? One thing that has happen to me is that I didn't rinse my bottles well enough after I sanitized them and the solution ended up killing my yeast. You can always go back and sprinkle in a little yeast into each bottle and re-cap them and let them set for a couple of weeks.
@Maloner217 жыл бұрын
Well this is the third time i've brewed beer and it never said anything about putting sugar in the bottle before filling. It didn't say to do it this time either. Should I? What kind of sugar? And how much in each bottle? I stored them at room temp, about 72 degrees.
@jakejohnson76717 жыл бұрын
This is what priming sugar is for. I noticed you asked about priming sugar at the bottom - are you using it at the right time?
@PlattR7 жыл бұрын
If you don't have the priming sugar that came with the kit, regular white table sugar will do. Roughly 3/4 teaspoon per 12 oz. bottle will do the trick.
@Maloner217 жыл бұрын
Yeah the kit came with 5oz of priming sugar and the directions said to only use 3.5oz of it. I put the priming sugar in before bottling.

I have a question. I have a Double IPA kit from this company. It has 6 bags of hops, 3 cans of lite malt, priming sugar, corn sugar, and crushed caramel and crushed carapils. I just want a simple pale ale like a Milwaukee’s Best Ice. The abv is supposed to be about 7.8%-8.3%. I do not like drinking beer that is too strong tasting. How can I make my own recipe with this kit?
@PlattR9 ай бұрын
Sure. You could probably pull back some of the hops and a can of the malt and end up with a regular pale ale.

Hey Patt awesome video, I made a mistake and am not sure how bad it is. I rehydrated the yeast when you said to and realized on the instructions it says not to do that. It’s the brewers best American Amber Ale. Thanks!

@@Tidepodss If you have a reverse osmosis system the water should be fine. You can always buy spring water at the store. Best of luck.

Hey Platt. I have a Brewer's Best English Pale Ale kit. They gave me 5oz of priming sugar but, the instruction say to use 3.5 oz and mix it with 2 cups of boiling water. Another person told me to use all 5 oz in 1 cup of boiling water. Not sure really what to do.
@PlattR8 жыл бұрын
Go with what the instructions say. Brewer's Best most likely has a standard 5oz priming sugar packet that comes in every kit, however, each beer style has its own level of carbonation. This means the amount of sugar needed will change between beer styles.
