Looking to move onto all grain and was curious about starting with one of these kits. This video was super helpful! Thanks for putting it together!

Melissa Sweeney My pleasure. The logistics of brewing an all-grain batch can be tough if your brewing a larger batch say 5-10 gallons. There are several all-grain systems on the market but they are not cheap.

Hey, I got the Chestnut Brown for the BF for Christmas. I think he is to afraid to get it wrong. I will definitely show him your video. You make it sound so easy and you explain the instruction so well. I hope he sees it won't be so difficult . Thanks

I used the blow out tube for the first 2-3 days, and had pretty aggressive fermentation. Then I switched over to the airlock and on day 2 after that, I don’t see any bubbling in the beer itself nor coming up through the airlock. Any tips on how to check if I did something wrong? Or is seeing no visible fermentation as expected? Thanks!
@PlattR Жыл бұрын
Shine a flashlight along the side of the fermenter, if you can see bubbles rising, then you're OK

Platt, your tutorials are fantastic. You really know your stuff. I made a batch of beer from Brooklyn Brew Shop and am about to remove the tube and connect the blow off valve. However, my jug has some sort of "layer" of something on the inside, at the bottom of the bottle. Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance.
@PlattR7 жыл бұрын
No, that is just dead yeast cells that have settled to the bottom. that happens in every batch of beer.

love this video! Have you made that "brew in a bag" video yet?
@PlattR8 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I tried to do a brew in the bag video and accidentally ripped the bag. When I get another bag I'll be sure to put that video up.
@floridablancabrewing75588 жыл бұрын
What helped me to not rip the bag is the fact that I bought a propane burner with a 12.5 gallon kettle. It also came with a cage so that you can boil crawfish and other various seafoods. I put the bag in that cage and worked it like that.

if the sugar in the grain is the only sugar needed what will happen if you introduce sugar into it ? What is the gravity of this beer once ready for bottling? What is the maximum strength a beer can be? What is the difference between beer and Ale ? What differences would wine yeast make to beer and vice-versa . Good video.
@PlattR7 жыл бұрын
all the sugars you need for fermentation are in the grains. You could add sugar or what are called adjuncts, corn, honey, etc.... This will boost the ABV of the beer but also effect the body of your beer. Ale is a style of beer. Most beers are either lagers or ales. Wine yeast can achieve higher ABVs than beer yeast and would probably produce a drier beer.

During the mash out process how long do you keep the temp at 170° before beginning the sparge?
@PlattR4 жыл бұрын
That is correct
@christopherschustor79924 жыл бұрын
Platt R. Thanks for the reply, to clarify, I was asking for how long (what amount of time) should I keep the temp at 170° before moving onto the next step.
@PlattR4 жыл бұрын
Once you hit 170, start the sparge. When you finish, move on to the boil.

I just made this brew, but after about 30-40 hours the fermentation came to what seems like a complete halt. Just wondering if I should be worried about that, or if that is normal for this brew?
@PlattR8 жыл бұрын
Usually the first couple of days are the most intense for fermentation. As long as there wasn't as big temperature change or something got in the fermenter, you should be fine.
