I had to improvise this past Sunday as the preacher kept on talking . . . we never know how long that is going to take lol! So yes, I did exactly that - the same four chords over and over again and it was perfect. The best part about being a church pianist is that the attention is NEVER on me. I am there to SERVE, I am not the spotlight. Jesus is the spotlight.

Oh and just a thought. It's always best to play in the chords of the last song just in case your pastor wants to sing it again. At least you're already there without having to do a key change and it will just flow beautifully. Just adds to the anointing 😁

I'm Catholic. We have some of the worst music heard in Church (e.g., just watch "Sister Act" if you don't know what I am talking about). However, I lived in North Carolina for over 7 years and went with friends to many different Baptist churches. As a musician of 30 years, I have gigged in both environments. No disrespect but I can honestly tell you that none of what Lisa is playing would be acceptable in either environment. However, she's still great and as a music educator of 15 years, I highly recommend her videos for novice pianists!

Thanks for your input Neil! I don't have too much experience in those types of services :) This is designed definitely more for contemporary Christian Worship songs and services. For churches that would use Hillsong and Bethel-style music quite regularly.

Another great idea is to switch between the 1st and 4th chords of the key with the left hand and improvise whatever melody you want with the right one, while changing the intensity. You can actually spend hours playing that way without getting tired since it will always sound beautiful. There are plenty of songs that use that chord progression and they sound so emotive and relaxing (Obstacles by Syd Matters is the only one i remember right now but it's not christian)
