Great fundamentals. I've been putting off working on timing my breathing until I get my strokes working better. But it's been years, so I think I'll go ahead and practice my breathing!

Any tips for deciding when to move the racket from power position to swing?
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial10 күн бұрын
It all depends on the type of ball you’re receiving and when you plan to make contact in relation to the bounce. Early vs ball dropping for example. But by the time the ball has bounced, the racket needs to be prepared to move forwards 100%

Love Leon the doggo's cameos in your vids! I'm quite good at keeping my eye on the ball, right before contact. After a few games, I tend to keep my head a little too forward and don't watch it all the way onto the strings. Lazy. Just watching the ball isn't enough against really heavy hitters. You need to watch their racket rather than the ball - to determine what type of stroke they will play. The problem for me is I'm terrible at working out what shot the oppo is about to choose. Any video guidance on this Simon?

Great video. I’ve got your serve, fitness, volley and singles courses. Will you ever do a course on mobility / flexibility? Feel like I’m lacking in this area and would help me especially with serve. Thanks for all content!

While practicing immediately identifying, actually calling out "forehand" or "backhand" and starting the turn to backswing preperation, even as moving to position to hit the ball. Then it's the old bounce hit. Racquet all the way back as the ball hits the court, say "bounce," the watch as your racquet strings strike the ball as you say "hit." Then don't watch the result of your shot. Instead move to the best proper court position to return your opponent's next shot. To see this done 100%, but without the verbal calling out, watch older videos of YOUNG Serena Williams playing. You'll see her always moving to the ball with her racquet already back. That's why she's the best women's player in history.

How far must you be from the bounce for the swing? I find it difficult to identify when to move from preparation to swing. This seems easy when the coach throws the ball during practice but while playing I find it difficult to figure out distance to the bounce and swing
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial10 күн бұрын
Serena was very disciplined with the early preparation for sure. Great player to watch for that skill
@Crao-rn8wk5 күн бұрын
@@jivithasiddharthan3425 That depends on the heigth effect and speed of the ball. It also depends on wether you want to hit the ball in the early and rising phase of the bounce or the late descending phase. Hitting the ball during the late phase will always be the best option if your technicals skills are low. Only practice will enable you to better assess the good distance. The best way to avoid being too close to the ball is to slow down before the ball bounces and then adjust your position. When you are forced to move back don’t be scared to go back too far. It is important to move forward before hitting the ball. Sorry for my english. Hope it will help you.

For the first point of tracking the ball I'd add in there that just tracking the ball off the opponent's racquet isn't enough. As soon as you see them hit it, you need to start reacting too. What speed and spin did they hit with. Where is it going? Where do I need to start moving to? How fast is it coming? What shot am i going to hit? I see so often people who react so late to a mis-hit or a deep and flat shot.

You’re spot on, and that’s exactly what I cover at 04:42 in step three of the lesson: early preparation

The difference in my shots quality when I concentrate at tracking the ball and when I don't is severe especially on my backhand. Is there something I can do to automate it so it becomes routine and I don't have to think about it other than repetition? It takes a lot of focus and is easy to lose ~4.5-5.0 player.

Great video, Simon but do you really focus on breathing while playing? It just doesn’t sound practical to me. I guess a bit of grunting comes into play here to help with this.
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial10 күн бұрын
It’s very hard to work on and master breathing in points without doing the groundwork first. Even being able to control your breathing whilst rallying in the service boxes is a challenge. But, it’s definitely something every player should work on. I’d say it’s the second most important skill in tennis, after tracking the ball
@watcher68710 күн бұрын
@ Wow! When you say ‘control your breathing’, is there anything more to it than inhaling during coiling for power and exhaling on forward swing?
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial10 күн бұрын
Not really, but being able to do that consistently and during points is a real challenge

Part of tracking the ball is watching your opponent’s swing path to determine what kind of spin and the amount of spin the ball has. I’ve noticed that most women (Even A-level) do not possess that ability because they are so accustomed to the other women hitting flat balls to them. So when they get a ball with top spin, slice, sidewinder spin, (God forbid a kick serve), they are completely unprepared for it when it bounces and often miss the ball altogether. No offense ladies.… But you need to work on reading your opponent’s swing path!
