The Glove doesn’t have a ton of history or long-term impact on the gaming industry, but it’s an interesting piece of forgotten gaming tech nonetheless. That and after the mammoth XBAND documentary I wanted to make something that could actually be watched in one sitting lol. One thing I left out of the video is that the inspiration for creating The Glove happened when one of the Ullmans got so frustrated with a game and its controller, that he threw the controller against the wall and broke it. Broke the controller, not the wall. I’m not 100% sure what I’m covering next but it’s been a while since I tackled a console so I’m leaning in that direction. I didn't mention it in the video, but you can use The PS1 version of The Glove with a PS4. There's an adapter for using PS1 controllers with the PS4 and it does indeed work with The Glove. Oh, and I think I may do the annual Absolutely Rose Street livestream this weekend. After all, DOOM IS COMING TO VIDEO GAMES!!

More seriously it's never been a real problem, like a lot of lefties I use a mouse in my right. Most controllers you can only hold them one way, so that's the way you hold them. Weird exception was the N64, I really wanted to hold the pistol grip with my left hand, which meant my thumb was in the wrong place for A and B.

Another masterpiece. A new information learned. I thought that the motion type gloves ended with the Power Glove but it didn't. It shows promise but the way it's built is not suited for long game plays the way I see it. When your hands get tired like even the light weight controllers of today's consoles will become heavy. The reason it failed as you mentioned is the baddddddd taste it left players with the Power Glove. It's like fool me once, fool me twice but not the third time. Maybe some time in the future these controller types will rise again as technology moves further and become more sophisticated. For now, it will still be cloudy and most of the current games aren't build around to support motion controls. But like any other gamer I would like to have this type of controller when it is fully mastered and deliver what it is suppose to. Thanks again for this awesome video. More power. 🍻🥳😁
@WrestlingWithGaming5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. Yeah, I remember people thinking that this was some kind of follow up to the original Power Glove when they came out. These controllers were always going to be a hard sell, especially at the initial $90 price, but once they put "glove" in the name they sealed their own fate. It's too bad since these actually work pretty well.

I actually got the N64 reality quest glove. Found it at a thrift store taped to a ps1. 10$ for both. I almost passed on it cuz I had a ps1 and I had no clue what the glove was. Then I noticed the n64 plug dangling off it. I decided to scoop it up. Im glad I did its one of my favorite things in my collection. Honestly though it sucks to use. I get cramping in my wrist after about 5 minutes. You have to retrain your brain to the new button layout. I did spend a lot of time beating goldeneye with it just for kicks. My Step Brother worked for these guys, I asked him the same question about the no-left-handed gloves back in 1999, and he asked about that on my behalf, and he confirmed that it as due to coast, but they were planning on making Left-Hand versions of the glove as a made to order specialty thing. Internally they were aware of its possible use for the disabled. Still, at the time, they were afraid of advertising it for that use set would hamper sales and be considered sueable false advertising.

However I think if a new company put some effort into a universal USB version of this controller with both HID, and X-Input control options in both right, and left handed options, with the software drivers being fully open source, then it would be a decent option for those with a disability who can't use a normal game controller for at least short burst of gaming.
