Nick Arcade was a TV game show centered around what are now considered retro video games video games that aired from 1991 through 1992. Two teams of two were pitted against with the winning team after 2 rounds getting to compete inside of an actual video game (well before virtual reality, PS4, orother modern means) for the grand prize. Nick Arcade was a technical marvel at the time and an extremely popular show for Nickelodeon. This is the story of how a group of pioneers, Amiga Computers, and a charismatic host made the impossible happen… putting people inside of real video games. This is the story of Nick Arcade.

@@wmc181 thanks! It's definitely been a flop in overall views and because of that KZbin has greatly reduced how often it recommends my other videos to people too. Thing is I can see in analytics that KZbin barely even suggested the nick arcade video to people to begin with. So it never even had a chance to fail or succeed on its own merit. It's frustrating as hell but I really appreciate the support and comments like this one. ✊🏻

The best decade ever. The last decade ever. Other than advancements in healthcare, every aspect of everything has been downhill since. The 2000's brought us the "war on terror" which was truly just the 'war on Israel's enemies'. This changed everything. Now we have this mechanized world where everyone hates each other. It's only going to get worse. Shalom goyim.

Ouch! At 18:10 -- it's a hard slap at Dan Vitco and myself, who actually created 95% of the music for Nick Arcade. Dean Friedman contributed about five of the interactive game beds to our effort, which included 70+ music cues including all themes, Mikey's movement (which James smartly suggested we snip from the Main Theme for this), and the Wizard game at the end. Had you researched us I would have been happy to share the music for your otherwise great video! Cheers.

Ah yes, my 15 minutes of fame. Seeing the Mandala interface sent a shiver down my spine. I coded a few of the video zone games for Dean in New York. Never saw the sets. The mummy was a lot of work since the kids always hit the legs when ducking. I had to split it in half and Mandala didn't make syncing up the motion easy. Mandala didn't make anything easy. But it performed some real magic once you got it all to work. I wonder what they could have done with the laser disc (@8:30) Dean Friedman did a Mandala and Laser Disc installation for the Brooklyn Children's Museum back then. I wrote the parallel port driver for the player that spoke ARexx and then the ARexx scripts to interface with Mandala so it could control the player. I think Nickelodeon took the video zone development in-house for season two. But my place is still set in the credit roll of YT re-runs. Long ago and far away.

You gotta remember that Baseball in the late 80's and early 90's was very popular. Topps, Upper Deck, Score, Fleer and other card companies made an overly abundant amount of cards during that time, that even the rookie cards (especially those that would end up in the Hall of Fame) today are extremely cheap to get today because they made so many of them. It almost killed the hobby. Thankfully it's doing good now.

1994 MLB strike and cancellation of the World Series did irreparable harm to baseballs popularity. Early 90s, it was still popular with kids, second to NFL. The card cutters have done a lot of damage these past couple of years. For those out of the loop - for many years, a few previously-respected people have been buying slabbed cards, breaking them out, cutting as little as 1/64 of an inch off each edge to remove wear, and resubmitting them, only recently getting detected and called out for it. In some cases, a 1 point increase can make the card worth 1000’s more! Hopefully someone does a documentary on the scandal soon. It would be quite entertaining.

i like that theme park, but was bummed when i went 20 years after nick arcade ended that there were no tv shows the public could attend, not to mention that the fountain that sprayed green dyed water was torn down.

Thanks for the kind words and for checking the channel out, I appreciate it! Thankfully the Neo Geo video I put out after this, which happens to feature MVG, did much better. I was very fortunate that the XBAND developers were willing to talk to me about it for hours. It wouldn't have been the same without them.

Man I loved that show. I was so jealous of those kids getting on the gameshow. As I got older I realized, yeah it's probably a green/blue screen. The host was one of my favorites from Nick, he's behind Rick Summers from Double Dare. Great show for the 90's. Best show I can recall loving off the top of my head: You Can't do that on Television. Liver and brussel sprouts ha! Great video really loved this!!
