I didn't mind the control scheme so much, although I wish they would have went with the original plan where you could choose to play in either the prime controls or the super controls. That sounded like a very innovative idea, allowing players to choose the control scheme. If Sakamoto wasn't so full of himself at the time, the game might have gotten very enormous.

That same control scheme was also used in both Pokepark games, and depsite that, i enjoyed those games (not Other M because i didn't knew what metroid was except for Samus and Ridley's appearance in Brawl)

@@chuganoga1908 It wasn’t a proper Metroid storyline, and it wasn’t necessary for it to be a prequel to Fusion. At least it explained Adam Malkovich, but that’s about it really for me. Also it’s the way Samus is treated in this game, she’s a mostly silent protagonist, and she’s also more of anti-hero in my opinion. She’s a bounty hunter, she does jobs for money and is more of an unlikely hero as she gets deeper into the events of the previous games. She’s doesn’t mope around with soliloquy dialogue about her past. She’s definitely an “moment to moment” individual who simply moves forward and removes obstacles in her path. And she sheds no tears for the hostile aliens or the space pirates, and doesn’t even blink an eye when an entire planet is blown to pieces. Afterwards, she’s like “I saved the Galaxy, but hey Federation, where’s my money at?”.

@@AGAMER360 - Yeah Other M is not a good introduction to the series, I would have someone play Samus Returns 3DS, Zero Mission, Fusion and of course the sublime Dread. Those are great, proper Metroid games. Super Metroid too, and the Prime series, but only Prime after playing the 2D games to get familiar with the series.

It's not a bad _game_ as much as it's a terrible _Metroid_ game. I had fun (minus the "find the pixel" segments and "try to remember the tutorial 10 hours beforehand"), but it's still the worst (or second worst, haven't played Federation Force) in the series.

@@AkaiAzul I see where you’re coming from. I remember having to find clues that were barely visible, and that wasn’t great at all. The control system is interesting, but a bit janky.

Yeah, honestly it's not as bad as people say it is imo. Still one of the worst no doubt, but tbh the 3d platformer aspect of it from the third person is pretty cool and works pretty well, the overworld is really nicely designed and all the areas are super cool tbh. Only thing that bothers me there is the fact that you're forced to control the game with a wiimote, which is pretty stupid. But honestly other than that the only thing that bothers me is the story, but even then i don't think its THAT bad to the point id consider it not canon

I enjoyed Other M to be honest. Of course not nearly as much as some of the other games but it has its charm. The Ridley scene especially is overly scrutinized in my opinion because, while it is true that Samus didn’t show any signs of fear or anything in the face of Ridleyin previous titles: One: no other game even wanted to try as hard as this game to personify Samus (for the better and worse) Two: at this point in time, Samus went out of her way to make sure Ridley went down and stayed down. Other M takes place immediately after Super Metroid, and in that she went out of her way to TOTALLY DISINTEGRATE Ridley as well as BLOW UP ZEBES. As far as she was aware, every minuscule trace of Ridley’s existence was eradicated. She finally had closure, she had her revenge. The years of her life of harboring a burning hatred for that monster finally melted away by justice…… And then she finds out that The Galactic Federation, the people who she trusted as a force of good and order in their galaxy, decided to clone him, but not only that, they cloned him from TRACE DNA scraped from HER OWN POWER ARMOR. Everything she had been working for undone by her not getting a chance to clean herself up. Every ounce of catharsis invalidated. That’s why she freaked out.

Well, I think we understand you hate the game.... I personally love other M, for story and such. The only thing I hate about the game is that Samus is following orders, which really isn't how I imagine her, She would just do her thing in the space station without giving a fuck if Adam or the federation want it or not! But really the only thing I really hate, at the sime time I didn't grow up with the game, which would make my view a little different than other would have. I was 8 when other M came out and my interest in the game started 10 years later I guess, so in that sense I know what you mean.

I think other M would have been fine if it wasn't a Metroid game. The gameplay is different enough from your typical 2d or 3d Metroid game to make it a stand alone game with the typical sci-fi setting of "scientist guys f'ed around and found out" if you change up some things. Take out all Metroid related things, change the names maybe spice up the designs a bit and make your character a soldier that has their entire job riding on following orders because that's what a soldier does and not a bounty hunter. Then call it a "Metroid inspired game" and explain that's why things exist that have similarities to Metroid like an ice beam being the main weakness of a space jelly fish. That would be a fine stand alone game on the Wii and it wouldn't have been as badly received because it would be your average scifi game without changing anything in the Metroid universe

Looking back, I hate this game. Too many cutscenes for a game that’s supposed to be about being isolated and all alone. Samus is a warrior. In the lore, she’s been training her entire life and this is after the events of zero mission, return of Samus and super Metroid. Why would she be scared of Ridley? Makes zero sense. I somewhat understand the respect for Adam, but denying herself abilities and upgrades? In the other games, it makes sense since usually you don’t start the game with them or you lose them and you have to find them again. But in this, she has them all and just switches them all off because plot. That’s like me building a house but I have to start with a hammer and I’ll unlock power tools later even though I clearly have them now.

@@Phoenix_1991 I'd be surprised. Sakamoto was very proud of what he made, but perhaps he's since been humbled or restricted from doing more of this kind of thing by Nintendo higher-ups. Dread's story was so much more minimal

Sadly it's still being held as canon, it's just not regarded as part of the "primary arc" (the numbered games). As unjust as it seems, it occupies the same tier of canon as the Prime series.

@@bluecaptainIT Hard Mode unlocks after beating Normal Mode on 100%, so you basically already found everything, and game can focus on combat. Also all this metroid elements were added really poorly anyways and made game objectively worse (do I need to remind all this pointless backtracking just to justify it's belongings to the series?) If Other M had been a purely linear action game, without trying to resemble past games, it could have become a really good game.

@@darx7684 by that account, Prime and the Other games should not have had a Hard / Hypermode because you already know where the stuff is. Granted, this is a very particular game, even in the Metroid series, but part of me would have loved to fight Phantoon in Hard Mode. Or, like, get a reward for completing it or something. Besides the extra challenge, there's no reason to play Hard mode in M:OM. Bottom Line: play Maxximum Edition

Play Other M, but take a shot for every single cringe moment, every time "The Baby" is mentioned, and every time Adam authorizes Samus. If you pass out and fall asleep, the video ends.

I actually really enjoyed this game. It was a different pace but I enjoyed the narrative driven direction they went with. We got to see world building and a deeper dive into Samus’ character and over all lore of the Metroid franchise. And not to mention how it also showed how talented and ruthless Samus is in combat scenarios with the executions and dodging.

Honestly, same here. It was fun and I liked how the control scheme made the game a little more frantic. As you had to be quick about things. It was really interesting to see Samus as she was going through certain things in her mind, while still being ruthless in combat. It made a really interesting disconnect in the character, as if she was a killing machine operating almost on autopilot when faced with combat. I know the majority of people don't like that game, and thats perfectly fine. I enjoyed it, and I'm glad someone else has as well.

@@XNinjaMushroomX I’m right there with you. The game made her feel like a real person with feelings and a perspective all while not letting that shake her entirely when getting the mission done. The Ridley scene for me was amazingly done, it revisited the PTSD Samus had from seeing her family killed by Ridley it made sense why she would get such a reaction in that moment.

No joke, I wanted to get back into this game with an open mind when I replayed every 2d Metroid game in preparation for Metroid Dread... But the constant boring cinematics made me drop it less than one hour in.

Years later, I couldn't even get myself to watch a walkthrough of this game. The cutscene's dialog, and the way they portray Samus is so cringe.
