The sleekness of the Other-M design has always been my least favorite aspect. I think Dread really mastered balancing the sleek and bulky elements.

I’ve always hated the other M suit, and not because of my bias against the game it comes from. It is just so flat and boring and I can’t stand that it was the default look for Samus for over a decade. Don’t believe Nintendo has no idea how to market Metroid 99% of the time? The proof is right there in plain sight. I think the main issue with it is it just doesn’t look like aliens built it. There is nothing about it that implies humans couldnt have designed it.

I also didn't like the art style for Federation Force but if it was in the proper prime 3 art style the mech suits themselves would be absolutely ginormous

i love metroid so much that ive gone insane because of metroid. everytime i see an insect, i instantly think of metroid and when i drink energy drinks, i think of them as energy tanks.

Funny thing is, when Smash bros wii u and Ultimate used the Other M design of the Varia Suit, they ditched the glossy shine of the armor in favor for a brushed metal detail, extra panel lining, much more bulkier design and small hexagon patterned metal grils within some parts of the panel gaps. So yeah, the design in the actual game, pretty bad, but in smash, it's great.

Yeah, these games were overall a miss with their suit designs. I get they made a more sleek design in Other M to better represent how agile she is, but she can be agile without making the suit feel like a synthetic costume. It's similar to the Fusion Suit, but that gets a pass because it's literally supposed to be the inner organic layer of her regular suit. Not the actual suit. And the funny thing with the Fed Force art style is that we almost did get a chibi art style before this game. The earliest version of Zero Mission we saw was going to have a chibi comic art style, in order to make the sprite similar to the NES sprite. But they changed it to more realistic proportions later because, presumably, they realized chibi doesn't fit Metroid. So...why try it again? On a sub-series that is known for its more photo-realistic style? It's no wonder the game got trashed considering the timing of its release.

My absolute favorite suit designs. I love the sleekness of all three suits, and that we get to keep the varia suit while gaining the cool purple field around it for the gravity effect.

I think that the Other M Varia Suit is a good "baseline" Samus. For her default look in Smash Bros. and other general marketing materials, it's simple and recognizable. Definitely not my favorite suit, but it doesn't bother me that it became her standard look for so long.

About the Classic Power Suit: Possibly it's supposed to be Samus' original Power Suit, assuming if that flashback is set before Zero Mission. And the main suit she uses is her fully powered suit. Although in Other M's depiction, it shows the rounded shoulders even without the Varia Suit, while in Prime, Samus Returns, and Super, the Fully Powered Suit more or less resembles her original Power Suit, and the extra armor with the Varia Suit on is a trait unique to the Fully Powered Suit (While the original Power Suit just becomes orange in Zero Mission). It's possible the rounded shoulders are there since Samus does have all the powerups she obtained in Super, they just had to be authorize first. So the rounded shoulders are more of a sign of the Varia suit being inactive. But that's just my theory.

1. i hope someone make a mod to put the Zero Mission-like Power Suit to change the one thats in-game, to make and give more classic vibe, but also to make it like theres a difference between the Varia Suit and the Power Suit. 2. Also, can someone make a mod to put the scrapped model of the Gravity Suit that's in the files of the game and make it purple with blue lights???? That will be nice.

The gravity suit coloration is just the suit in the middle of integrating the gravity feature, when the suit already has it and has had time to process fully it just looks like the varia suit, like in fusion's opening cutscene, samus never lost it in other m so when turning it back on it doesn't visibly change the suit, the varia and legendary suits meanwhile have to show their changes because their differences aren't just visual amd the extra bulk is needed for their functions, and dread's suit is different because of samus having different dna and not a feature being added

The Other M suit would have been a good looking suit if they had allowed it to have the Gravity Suit colors rather than that lame Gravity Feature aura. Put Samus's Gravity Suit colors in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (or even For Wii U/3DS) and you'll see what I mean.

In spite of all the suits' flaws, I think the helmet is absolute peak. I prefer it over the Prime Helmet, honestly.

Unironically, Other M is probably one of my preferred suit designs *because* of it gets rid of the ridiculous bulk that shows up in the majority of the series while still looking like Samus, it's still unlikely that she'd be able to move as well as she does in that suit, mobility powers notwithstanding, but it's slightly more believable. Full disclosure, my first interaction with Metroid was Prime, so seeing the suit in that context made sense, you were wearing three tons of metal on your shoulders, so of course your movement was slow and deliberate, the fact that she could jump at all was likely only made possible by the fact that the suit was powered. Then I turn around and look at the 2d games and it doesn't look like Samus should be able to turn her head, much less do the flying leaps, somersaults, and sprinting that she's pulling off constantly. Also, Samus's suit has never been a walking tank, a walking force of nature, sure, but not a tank. The resilience of Samus's suit less to do with the sturdiness of its material, but in the ways it can use energy for offense, defense, and mobility. Almost all of her durability comes from her advanced shields, without which she might as well be wearing cardboard. Don't even get me started on the visual vomit that's the Samus Returns design. I'm sorry, ignoring that she looks like she has two samus-sized cancerous lumps on her shoulders, there's just too much going on with that gravity suit visually. Dread's suits are pretty close to perfect for me thought.

Okay so I know the Gravity Feature is a fucking joke and all that but I feel like it presents the answer to a question _no one asked:_ "Why come Samus keep ditchin' Gravity Suit?" We know from the context of this game and Fusion that Samus' arsenal in this game is the exact same stuff she picked up in Super, and we also know that the SA-X, from both a lore and narrative perspective, is a manifestation of Samus at her absolute peak. And yet she's wearing Varia. Or is she? Consider that by all conceivable metrics, the Gravity Feature _must_ be the same upgrade as Super's Gravity Suit. Consider that from Samus' perspective, the fight's over. Metroids are extinct, the Space Pirates are gone, Ridley's finally staying in the metaphorical dirt. Consider that when you finally absorb the SA-X in Fusion, your suit immediately reverts to classic Varia colors despite still having Gravity. I can only come to one conclusion: *GAME THEORY: SAMUS HARD-MODDED HER GRAVITY SUIT TO DISABLE ITS VISUALS.* Why? I don't fucking know! Maybe she just doesn't like purple/magenta???

the other M suit is alright imo, not great, but what I don't understand is how people tolerate the original Fusion suit. That thing is an abomination, and only the Dread version is good.

They ended up putting that garbage design in Smash Bros Wii U and Ultimate. Samus looked so much cooler and detailed in Brawl, how they downgraded it from there is just terrible.

I totally agree. The Prime suits should have been used. And as soon as Dread was released, the Dread suits should have been added to Samus’s costume choices. The Other M suits are atrocious - and it was a wasted opportunity to include them in Ultimate at the expense of _far_ more superior suits.

Not so fun fact: the Other M Varia was used as the design of the Toy Samus easter egg in the Super Mario RPG remake, you can see it more clearly in the Boundary Break episode of SMRPG. So yeah, it seems Nintendo isn't quite done using Other M as the main look for Samus just yet, at least when it comes to cameos or promotional stuff...
