In this episode, I share with you the completion of a dream where I have designed from the ground up a region-free mod tray for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System Jr, which will allow you to play both North American Super Nintendo games and Japanese Super Famicom games on a North American Super NES Jr. thanks to the NEStoration® Region Free Mod Kit.
When I got into 3D printing in 2021, there were three things that I wanted to design and print. The first was a set of Mickey Mouse wall hangers for the ears my wife, daughters, and I have collected over the years. The second was a storage case for Famicom Disk System Disks in their cases, with Diskun on the sides. The third item I wanted to create was a region-free mod for the Super Nintendo and the Super Nintendo Jr which would allow me to play imported Japanese 16-bit Super Famicom games on a North American system. Thanks to SainSmart providing us with a SealLite handheld 3D scanner, and what I have learned over the last two and a half years regarding 3D modeling, I am proud to announce my NEStoration line of Gaming accessories and the first product under that brand, a region mod kit for the Super Nintendo. Let's show you how to Play Super Famicom Games On SNES Jr and install the NEStoration Region Free Mod Kit.
Tools needed :
NEStoration™ Region Free mod tray
4.3 mm game bit or security bit
Number 0 Philips head screwdriver

Disassembly:
There are four 4.3mm security bits on the bottom of a Super Nintendo Jr. Using a security bit or game bit, remove these screws and set them aside for later. Once the screws have been removed, you can separate the top and bottom half of the cases. Set the bottom half of the case aside as you will not need this at this time.
Flip the top of the shell over so you can see the inside of it. There are three Phillips head screws that you will be able to see. You will need to remove each of these three screws that retain the stock cartridge slot. Once removed, carefully remove the stock cartridge slot from the system and store it, you will not need it anymore.
Install the NEStoration region-free mod where the original cartridge slot was. Take note of the orientation where the two screw retainers go versus the single one. Also, make sure that the cartridge doors are in place and secure before installing the three retaining screws.
Once all the screws are installed for the region-free tray, you can reinstall the top half of the shell back onto the bottom half using the four security bits. Once the four security bits are back into place you are ready to play.
This region-free mod tray will only allow you to play Japanese games on a United States system. It will not allow you to play PAL European Super Nintendo games on a US system as they operate at a different frequency. This does not convert PAL signals to NTSC, this simply alters the existing cartridge slot.
I am super excited that I was able to design and produce this. Stay tuned as I will have more information on the original Super Nintendo region-free mod tray from NEStoration soon. Let me know if this is something you would be interested in. Have you ever collected Super Nintendo games? Let me know in the comments.

I love video games and your channel especially, although I must tell you that it is your way of speaking that has made me a new subscriber, since you speak very well and I am trying to learn English, of all the people I saw you are the one it is expressed more clearly for me, thank you very much for helping me

The region lockout got a little tougher with the N64. The cart designs had two regional differences; the US ones had longer side notches outboard while the Japanese and PAL carts had shorter notches inboard. Again, 3D printing has made it possible to allow Japanese (but not PAL!) games to be played on the US N64 or vice-versa without a little doctoring!

This is very cool. I look forward to seeing the mod for the original SNES model. That is the one I have. It's nice to make one for both models of the system.

You'll be able to play any original Super Famicom game. I'm not familiar with ClockTower but as long as it's NTSC it'll work

If any of you get the bright idea to do this quick and dirty by jamming a pair of pliers through the opening and breaking off the tabs, be extremely careful or you will knock off one or both of those springs and they are incredibly hard to put back. Uh, so I’ve heard and not that I have personal experience :)

If you want to destroy it by hacking out the region tabs, sure. But there are many people who don't want to do that, don't want to damage their system, and would rather do something like this. If this is something for you, great. If it's not, great.

im just confused. If you have the time to take apart the system to install this, why couldnt also someone safely/carefully just remove the tabs? I commend you for trying something new though@@RoXolid

No worries. I tinker a bit with 3D print stuff. And I'm into tabletop gaming miniatures and action figures. Being an artist, I've been wanting to up my game on what I can do and make. A 3D scanner is one of the things I want to grab eventually. Another weapon in the arsenal.

@looselycollected7505 I totally get that. This one is great for smaller stuff, larger items you'd want their Mole instead.

@@RoXolid I remember the day it wasn't true too. Since like PS4 and XBOX ONE. You could just import Japan disk. Put it in the console. Back in SNES day. I did like to add a way to place Japan game to just played SECRET OF MANA 2.

All you gotta do is bust the 2 pegs with a wire cutter or needle nose pliers. It's a free and easy mod....🤨
@RoXolid

And there are people who don't want to bust up their systems like that and would rather have a no cut solution. This is simply another option for those people. People like me

@RoXolid So you ain't planned to mod it to make it compatible with RGB or update the compassators? 🤔
@RoXolid
@RoXolid 5 ай бұрын
@@kylejacobe627 neither of the items you mention irreversibly damages the system. You don't break anything to replace capacitors or install Voultar's RGB mod. If you don't mind breaking the tabs, fantastic, have fun. There are others who don't want to do this, and much like on the N64 this is simply another option for people
@kylejacobe627
@kylejacobe627 5 ай бұрын
@RoXolid Taking the old capacitors out to replace them with new ones very much altercated that original factory form. Removing a couple of pieces of plastic isn't damaging your system. But, Hey, if you want to add more plastic to this planet, go right ahead. At least what I suggested doesn't produce more trash in this world.

@@kylejacobe627 FFS, are you serious right now? It's an option, I'm sorry you're so offended someone created something that you don't want and offered it to others who may also want. Also the materials used in 3d printing are plant based, jackass

Do those "phillips" screws have a dimple in them? If so, they are not Phillips, they are JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard). A dedicated JIS driver is what those should be driven with.
