Although Diaz was a disaster his first year in NY, he always had the ability. Playin in NY is very difficult and it might have taken him time to adjust. He could have been tipping his pitches, like Josh Hader was doing earlier when he was just as dominant as Diaz. He also could have been hurt, but he is clearly running on all cylinders now.

@Sasfoot
@Sasfoot 2 жыл бұрын
The main problem was that his slider was either hanging or breaking down instead of side to side. It was a mechanics issue he worked on and now his slider is one of the deadliest pitches in baseball.

Reminds of a relatively unknown by the name of, Justin Thompson who had an absolutely unhittable curveball. It was so unhittable that the batter knew it was coming and he still couldn't hit it. Diaz's slider is a bit odd, but so effective. It doesn't break as much from side to side or off the plate, but it starts out as a slider and drops like a forkball the whole time. It reminds me so much of Justin Thompson's curveball before he got hurt and was no longer what he once was. I hope Edwin stays healthy for his entire career. Mets have a gem here.

Its almost impossible for a closer to get Cy Young these days. Look back. Hasn't happened since 2003 and Gagne was like 55-55 in save opps. Look at Zach Britton in 2016. He didnt even get it. Its very hard , although I believe if there ever was a time for a closer to get it, it would be diaz. Not only his dominance, but the energy he brings to the team and the field. Its electric and makes everyone better IMO. Let's hope for the best. I just want to win it all. 💙🧡 LFGM 🔹🔸

When a batter hits the ball he has to try running to as many bases as possible. Usually he only has time to run to first base. If he hits it hard enough he can run to second or third base. He might also hit a home run and go to all four bases.

So lets start with baseball. Each team has 9 attempts (innings) to score runs. The visiting team has the first chance so they hit first and continue to hit until the defense gets 3 outs. Then they switch sides. The baseball field is arranged in a diamond with the start being at home plate (where the batter/catcher stand) and the middle of it is the pitcher's mound (where the pitcher stands). The other corners of the diamond are first, second and third base (going counter-clockwise from home plate). The rest of the field extends from between the lines connecting home plate to first base and home plate to third base (Think of a 'V' shape). The field goes on until it hits the outfield fence. If a batter hits the ball over that fence it is a home run. The diamond and bases are called the infield, while the rest of it is called the outfield. When a player hits the ball it needs to be between the lines of the 'V'. If it is, the ball is 'fair' and can be played. If it isn't then it is considered a foul ball. If the ball is caught by a fielder before it hits the ground, the batter is out (even if the ball is foul). If the ball hits the ground (this must be in play and not foul) then the batter must run to first. The fielders will attempt to grab the ball and throw it to first base. If a fielder touches first base (with the ball) before the batter, the batter is out. This is called a 'force out'. If the batter touches it first, he is safe and can stay on the base. Now the batter (now a runner) needs to be careful because if he stops touching the bag he can be touched with the ball(tagged) and also be declared out. When the next batter comes up to hit while a runner is on first, the runner needs to pay attention. If a ball is hit on the ground, he must run to second base. This is also a 'force out' as only one runner can be on a base at a time so he must go to the next base. The same logic applies to third base and home plate. If a runner reaches home plate, they score a run. All runners on the bases and the batter get to do this automatically when they hit a home run. Now there is some nuance here. If there is a runner on second and no runners on first/third, the runner on second doesn't need to move at all as the runner isn't forced to come to his base. He can stay still if he wants. Now, how can someone get on second without someone else on first? Batters/runners can also take a risk and try to get to multiple bases during one hit. They still have to go first->second->third->home, but they can try for as many bases as possible unless they get 'tagged' while not touching a base. Fielders can also choose to get an out at first over getting an second depending on where the ball is hit/how fast the runners are. Now, if a ball is hit in the air (fly ball) and caught by a fielder, a runner needs to touch whatever bag they started that pitch on after the ball is caught. Then they can try and run to the next base if they want to. If they don't a fielder can touch that base with the ball and they are automatically out. Hopefully that explains the basics, let me know if you have questions!
