Like the wordless intervals too! Altho the music of the 1920's is uniformly tuneful, there are a handful of songs right at the start of the 20's that are just gorgeous and this is one of them. The others I can think of are Margie, The Love Nest, Look for the Silver Lining and Second Hand Rose.

@Pianosyncrazy A musician friend of mine (organist who plays the Mighty Wurlitzer) explains that the monotony of today's music is a result of the fact that, despite all kinds of elaborate embellishment and electronic additions, the tunes themselves are very simplistic, repeating themselves over and over every couple of bars with none of the complexity of fleshed out verses and choruses of earlier music.

Coming your way also.... this particular roll was a very early release.. it has both the standard and slightly naughty lyrics printed on either side... LOL

@HarborGuy Yeah, the melodies are completly different but the names are so close and they were both wildly popular tunes... :)

@VictrolaJazz I guess they are tuneful in the sense of our age proven understanding of the term... there may be many today who do not agree with that, but I feel that is because they have been tainted with the endless repetitions of the distorted meaning of that word and are not free to see the intrinsic value of a great melody along with time proven accompaniment principals... taste not withstanding of course... :).

@VictrolaJazz That is only true of music that has not broken the fundamental mathematical laws which goverened music for centuries... now openly and freely violated and called " good listen to".. Only time will reveal the outcome of the "music" which in it's own right is discordant and offensive to the unmolested human spirit...

Songwriters today are incapable of turning out a decent melody, one that will last into the next century. I've loved old music since I was a boy in the 1950s. What's wrong with today's crowd? Are they tone-deaf? Imagine what it was like to live in the 1930s: Gershwin, Porter, Berlin, Rodgers & Hart, Warren, Henderson, et al. We're living in a musical Dark Age.
