Thing is, i've wanted to do this in my own campaign, however, within the spell, it states you cannot move the glyphs. Its a glyph of warding, meant for defense and cannot be used offensively in say, a gold coin being thrown. So, rules as written, its impossible.

However, the spell doesn’t say anything about the movement breaking the glyph when cast on a surface. At the end of the day, regardless, you can just cast the spell inside the bag of holding because the extra dimensional space isn’t moving, just the opening for it is.

@GodlordBazi3 жыл бұрын
@@anaccident12 Well, to be fair, almost all people you find in a public whatever pen n paper session are the ones you don't want the meet ever again. Our group tried that out two times cause our usual DM wanted to take part as a player for once. Both times, the DMs we got were fucking horrible strictly-by-the-book people with giant egos. They forbid EVERYTHING that was on the dark side of humor. I tried to play a well-spoken doctor with a split personality, who used the shrunken head of his mentor as a kind of ventriloquist's dummy to hold conversations with himself (much like Mr. Garrison from Southpark) and the DM absolutely lost his fucking mind over that. He called me a psychopath and forbade me to play a character with a background like that, so I had to cut the mental illness part. Both DMs went on to simply ignore very expensive stuff from character creation that changed the outcome of their campaign in a way they didn't think of beforehand, so they pulled something completely out of this world out of their arses to stop that from happening. For instance, I managed to become the personal doctor of a town mayor (had to deal with a lot of dumb bullshit from the DM to get into that position). When the DM became unhappy with me for having a reliable source of income for our group, he just let the mayor drink a cup of poisoned wine handed to him by one of his arch enemies without even thinking twice, who had tried to kill him MULTIPLE times before at this point. When the mayor was lying on the floor in pain puking out blood, his bodyguards wouldn't let me through to him to give him the antidote I had prepared just in case, because "the antidote could've been poisoned". Didn't matter that I put almost all my points into being good at persuading people, cause the bodyguards were "too stubborn" for something like that. No throws were allowed. After that, I got sued by the mayor's wife for not saving her husband and I had to pay back twice the amount of money I had earned in that job, which coincidently had been about as much money as our group had in total at this point, so we couldn't afford what we were saving money for all this time anymore. At the end, they wanted some feedback from us. We listed all the incidents with extremely faulty logic and also added that we felt like there hadn't been enough freedom for the players and too much sudden bullshit happening just to artificially bring us back to rock bottom. The answer was "Accepted. Next time you can simply be the DMs yourself. Bye." We don't play that often, but fuck me, I'd rather set myself on fire than having to deal with those idiots in public sessions ever again.

Response: "Richard, from accounting." Succeeded his deception roll. The vampire spawn decided to escort him "to management." Then suddenly I (human fighter) riding the centaur cavalier charged the straight line the vampire spawn made, hitting all of them including the changeling. Then the druid decided to wildshape into a giant squid through a misreading of Moon Druid's rules, grab another player, go down the 80 foot cliff "moat" to offer the unfortunate sacrifice to the kraken down there saying "I've come to bargain." I like that bunches. My first and current character is an artificer with an alcohol problem. We're in the underdark right now and my DM wants us to make wisdom saves before a long rest. I haven't been able to sleep properly with my -1 wisdom modifier. My warlock buddy had the idea of burning incense to keep his character grounded to avoid the disadvantage on the wisdom save. I asked the DM if I could get inhumanly wasted to try and sleep better. I figured I'd just collapse after a good hour of demolishing my liver. She wants me to make a constitution save. Im doing Chadaficer build so I have +3 con modifier. Nat zero so I end up on a very smooth and solid 3. I am mythically fucked up from all the drinks I slayed and next session carries over into a boss fight. Which is pretty in line with how my character is meant to operate.

@@actualteddybear891 it's dope playing characters with alcohol problems. My PC's name comes from a local liquor similar to the tequila, and had the possibility to drink as much alcohol as he wanted and not getting wasted during daytime, but after 7 pm even a single drop of water would get him drunk af due to the plot. I didn't have any Stat penalization but were forced to take stupid decisions when drunk. My DM, in order to keep the things spicy, made me make a constitution roll to determine if my character drank anything due to being thirsty. It all depended on my impersonation on a super drunk guy, but it was fun. English is not my first language, just in case.

Honestly that sort of thing really depends on your party. I think there should be a nice in between; you should be able to make creative characters that aren’t perfect, and a little cheese with jankness here and there can be fun, but too bad or too good (unless the DM and the others at the table are on the same page) do make things less fun.

@@kirstenc6221 I think you can have it any way but all party members should have more or less the same "power level". If you have on person going for optimal build while the other takes whatever they fancy for fluff, the latter will eventually feel useless/powerless. Also, the nightmare for DM o balance encounters: either the Optimizer steamrolls over everything or the Suboptimals get smashed. Played like this - never again. It is possible ot have an optimized build with lots of character, but somehow they're often viewed as exclusive (hence: "I will not take the good trait because I am all about RoLePlAy" attitude). If you have an Optimizer in party, they will usually happily help others to build their fluffy chars in a way that works well mechanically at the same time. I play with someone who's really good at builds so I just say "hey, I want to do xyz" and he tells me my mechanical options. I get to play my dream whatever-it-was AND am more effective at that! Double fun.

Here's the thing with "half" characters getting all the traits of each half: if someone is only half aasimar or half kalashtar, would it not make sense that they would only get *half* the traits of each? Or even all the traits, but half as effective? Or even hardly any of the traits, because their lineage is too thin on both sides? I can see a half-aasimar essentially just being a slightly glowy human and a half kalashtar simply being a telepathic human. Not a super soldier with all the best bits of both. Someone I know played a half-elf half-dwarf (a dwelf). He had all the WORST traits of both races rather than all the best. He was short, but not sturdy. Skinny, but not dextrous. Bearded, but not impressively bearded. He was weak, light-sensitive, and honestly a really lousy father to his adopted daughter (although I don't think that had anything to do with the race). Yeah.....it wouldn't work because if you move the glyph farther 10 feet away from where it was cast the glyph is broken...there's not really a way around it, because the inside of the bag of holding is a different dimension so once you drop a coin inside, the spell is broken. If you stipulated that it's still in the same reality, then once you move it further than 10 feet, the spell is broken. Even if you jump inside the bag of holding to cast the spell (thus not moving the item further than 10 feet away from where you cast it), once you've removed the coin it would be farther than 10 feet away from where you cast it......and the spell would be broken.....he also got the rules for Catapult wrong.

@@AnotherVexium BUT it is in a bag of holding, which does create a pocket dimension...inside the bag. So technically the comments aren't moving.
@sh0gan9144 жыл бұрын
@@weebwhacker6217 Right. So in order for this to work, you'd have to cast it from WITHIN the bag as the location that the spell was cast in wouldn't change (being a pocket dimension) which is doable by the BOH's description of being 4 ft deep/64 cubic feet. Ideal if you are one of the shorter races, but still doable for those taller when you cast enlarge/reduce on yourself first since Glyph of Warding doesn't require concentration. Looking at catapult's description though, it does mention that the objects in question can't be worn or carried. The DM may argue that you are carrying the coins in your bag of holding but my opinion/thought on that is that the BOH is merely an entry point to the extra dimensional space which is it's own location by itself. It's like a portable door that always leads to the same storage unit, it just FEELS like a really deep bag because you aren't able to access this storage unit through any other means other than opening it to get there so you just think of it as the inside of the bag. The icing on top of this filthy cake is that since the spell glyph requires you to use 2 spell slots for each casting (the Glyph of Warding AND the spell you want stored on the coin), you could choose to up-cast each instance of catapult at 3rd level instead of 1st since that's the GOW's base level limit for the pairing and get an extra 2d8 on each of the coins, upgrading this combo from the original 150d8 damage (3d8 * 50) to 250d8 damage (5d8 * 50) and that's not even talking about how you can choose to up-cast the glyph spell to a higher level itself and increase the spell slot level you can cast to go up to maybe an 8th level catapult at most? If you were an evocation wizard specialist that was at least level 14, you could use your overchannel ability, cast catapult at a 5th level and should a coin hit the target, it will always do max damage 7d8 (56) per coin to a max of 2800 damage should every save be failed for all 50 coins (cut to the opening scene from Robo Cop) . Paralyze, petrify, stun or knock someone unconscious for that If you were an Order of Scribes Wizard (Tasha's Cauldron of Everything) you could change the damage type of the spell based on the damage type you might need at the time. The funds/resources to do this could still be a hassle to acquire depending on the DM and campaign setting but this is still a really neat idea to try and pull off.

Even if one is generous and doesn't count plane shifting (putting in the bag of holding) as "moving more than ten feet from where you cast this spell," the instant the coins re-enter the prime material plane more than ten feet from that spot, the glyph is 100% broken.

(Even though you would only get the 3d8 on a failed save so you would need to count the number of fails then adjust damage, but probably more than his character can likely handle.) @adrianroed21783 жыл бұрын
@@neerdowell6687 The 10 feet rule doesn't matter if they were inside a bag of holding, as the inside of the bag is on the ethereal plane and does not move. The problem is that putting a glyph into or removing it from the bag will move it more than 10 feet, so for this to work you need to inscribe the glyph inside the bag and trigger the glyph inside the bag. When a glyph is triggered, the spell it holds will always target the creature that triggers it, and since the glyph can't trigger after leaving the bag the only creature it could target would be the one attempting to remove it from the bag.
