Who doesn't love a great first game to their career? Well, maybe not the players who wound up having their best career game in pro sports as their very first one...

another good one is Daniel Ponce de Leon, threw 7 no-hit innings in his debut with the Cardinals in 2018, been bouncing around the minors since then

Steven Matz's debut literally set records and he's been just an ok big leaguer since. His first game with the Mets he went 8 and gave up 2 runs and got the win....but the big story was he went 3-3 with 4 RBIs which was a record for any Mets hitter in their debut....nevermind the fact this was a pitcher. It spawned one of the great moments with Grandpa Matz(RIP) absolutely losing his shit in the stands. He would have 9 RBI total after that game in his career(so far, he's still active on the Cardinals but Pitchers no longer hit so....)

Wish Matz panned out. My uncles is a Mets fan and he had some connections to get me in a post press conference scum. The young pitchers were all signing but Jake had to leave early. Only got Noah and Matz💀

Two Chiefs RBs had ridiculous first games. CEH had 138 rushing yards at 5.5 yds/carry and one td in 2020 and Kareem Hunt had 148 rushing yards, 8.71 yds/carry, one rushing td, and 98 receiving yards with 2 tds in 2017. Now they’re both backups at best.

Fabian Brunnstrom is one that comes to mind, scored 3 of his 19 NHL goals in his debut. I think Ryan Poehling is probably in the same boat, but he’s only 25 so maybe he can top his hat trick and shootout winner debut

I have to give a special shoutout to Kevin Kouzmanoff and Jeremy Hermida for being the players to hit a grand slam in their first plate appearance (Kouzmanoff doing it on the very first pitch he saw), only to put up mediocre seasons for the rest of their careers. Nevermind peaking in your first game, they peaked in their first _plate appearance._
