So glad that beautiful Lauren’s story is helping educate people of DIPG. It is a pediatric cancer with a 0% survival rate, treatment is basically a few rounds of radiation then palliative/hospice care. Probably the most brutal disease as the body eventually loses all function (personality, memory, ability to walk, eat, smile, breath on own) but the sense of awareness remains intact the whole time. It is terribly underfunded, as most childhood cancers are.

I was puzzled as to why this kept showing up in my recommendations, so I finally surrendered and started watching. By the time I'd finished, I knew exactly why. What a beautifully crafted tribute. You've carried the torch for her after she'd completed her part of her mission. I will be proud to support her scholarship fund and the research she's given so much of herself to. And I thank you for this exquisite artwork. I can't even tell you how deeply this touched me. She's a beautiful subject, and you're an incredible artist. Bless you both; bless her family, friends, and loved ones; bless all who knew and helped her to accomplish her mission and goals; and bless all the children the awareness she brought helped. Bless the doctors and scientists who will find a cure.💜💜💜💜💜

Do you know what gets me? People with a terminal illness, always seem the happiest. They are always so positive and optimistic about everything. "You got a few months to live", "okay well I'm gonna MAKE SURE I get this and that done before my time is done". They really do see the best in life. Because their mind is so focused on making sure they get to do the one or many things they've always wanted to do before they pass. You strong, amazing, lovely girl ❤ hope you're resting well

True, they appreciate the simple things in life. I have never been terminally ill, but I have had my own hardships and I learned that sometimes just going out and feeling the sunlight is a blessing. Money and material things are secondary to experiences and relationships.
@spottedhyena8163 жыл бұрын
I know you share a common sentiment but I just want to throw out my anecdote that that's certainly not "always" the case. (Please know I mean no ill towards you; this is just my own experience.) My mom was a fitness and health "nut" with a family history of long lives, so it was a shock to everyone when she died of lung cancer in her 50s several years ago. She never smoked, but a mutation was what caused it. To the point, she was generally not a happy person during her 1.5 year ordeal. A psychiatrist was helping her cope with depression. She was also dealing with major anxiety, which unfortunately kept her from going on a dream vacation that my brother and I offered to her early on. In fact, to this day I'm unsure of anything she checked off her bucket list during that time. She also made it clear at a couple points that she mentally wasn't in the fight anymore. Of course the mental aspect only goes so far against a physical process anyway. I know she expressed guilt about not being the stereotypical "strong" cancer fighter who never gives up though. And I'll admit that much of this was different than I expected going in, since those stereotypes are so common (especially the "relentless fighter" one). But you know what? She was and still is a superhero to me, because oxymoronically that experience humanized her for me. Sometimes people deal with hurdles in a more ordinary/expected way. It made no difference to me in the end whether she relentlessly fought, whether she "got a lot done", or whether she put on a smile. She wasn't afraid to be who she was. She didn't try to hide her vulnerabilities. Just the sentiment of her family wanting to do all we could for her I think meant more to her than the actual vacation, etc. What she did get done was being so caring and focused on everyone around her in spite of everything. To me this exhibits one of the integral aspects of humanity, namely that we are all so unique in who we are and how we deal with life, and the vast majority of people I've known still embody greatness by "just you being you" as Mr. Rogers would say.

I lost my 8 year old son to brain cancer. He would be 14 this year. I watched him whither away slowly.... Cancer took his dignity from him. It stole his hopes and dreams. At 8 years old, you think you will live forever.... the world lost something amazing that day... who knows what he might have been. I miss him so much. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of him and wonder what my life would be like if he were still here. He left a baby sister behind, she’s 6 now and even though she don’t remember him at all... she talks about him all the time. A sibling is a special thing... they are your first friend and someone you can always count on... I know she will always wonder what might’ve been. Prayers for Lauren’s sweet family. This young woman is far beyond inspirational. She was hopeful, happy, joyful, optimistic, and determined to never give up, no matter what the obstacles, not even in the face of inevitable death. She was a gem with a heart of gold. Selfless and a motivator. Her determination showed as she defied her cancer and the predictions of the doctors who said she wouldn't likely live into December. But she did. she spent a final Christmas with her family (making it all the merrier), she made it through New Year's, through January, into February, she lived to be awarded an honorary Doctorate degree from her college. She lived to see new life emerging as springtime took hold. And she lived until April 10th, 2015. She wanted to play in just one official NCAA game, but she didn't stop there after making it. She played in 3 more. And through the end of her too-short life, she worked to keep raising money for DIPG research.

As you said she LIVED! She also OUTLIVED the predicted days of her prognosis. Hallelujah! What an inspiration God has blessed her to be in my life. She lives on through the way she fought with an attitude of others first. Praise God! What an unselfish servant 🙂. Her life is how we should all live. Praying for the Lord to help the Hill family as they go on without her beautiful smile to greet them in the morning and send them off at night 🙂🙂

Yet Caitlyn Jenner received thé ESPY instead of this beautiful, brave, unselfish young woman. RIP in peace, you’ve made a real difference in this world sweetheart.

This is so sad and so unfair. I can't imagine how awful it must feel to lose a child. She's such a wonderful Angel just like all children lost when they should still be here. God Bless This family and all other families with sick children.

Heart wrenching to see her little sister talk about what it was like for her to watch her sister go thru this. She didnt smile and looked so broken until right at the end when she talked about what her sisters last words to her were, "youre the most beautiful girl in the whole world ", and how her face just lit up at that memory......that really touched my heart. I was worried thru the video each time she spoke at how much this may have affected her little sister and how heart broken she was, but I believe and hope that she is coping and continues on and pushing thru like her sister. That woman was a legacy and still continues to be. What she left behind is in itself eternal life and happiness. You give it to others and it will continue to give and live on long after you have left this earth.

Thanks for taking the time to watch and feel what the family was going through. You are the first to mention Erin’s pain and it was so hard to experience. She is a senior now, doing well, and will be playing soccer in college. And she looks beautiful without her braces.
