Really you can use anything you like. I had a chunky yarn at first that I was going to use (I think I mentioned this in the yarn description) but liked the tinsel in the one I ultimately used. Hello I'm stuck after doing front loop of sc 66 where do I go from here im confused do I do 9 sc , inc and keep doing that row until I get the desired fit
@joyfulprincessofmars90763 жыл бұрын
After 9sc, inc repeat (66) I assume you keep increasing until it's the right size, so the next step would be 10sc, inc repeat (72) 2 rounds of 72 sc 11sc, inc repeat (78) 2 rounds of 78 sc 12sc, inc repeat (84) 2 rounds of 84 sc 13sc, inc repeat (90) 2 rounds of 90 sc Just stop at whatever size seems right for you, then add the brim.

Yes, I used two strands. Check out “round one” of the video (there are time stamps in the description box below the video) and you will see how I was using two. If you use red heart super saver, their skeins are usually good for pulling from the center and outside strands. Hope that helps.

Just wondering if I could use a bulkier yarn instead of doubling the strands? Also curious why you used a 9mm to make the hat, but used a different one for the tutorial?
@PlayHookywithMe Жыл бұрын
Sure, you can use a bulkier yarn. I was making one in a bulkier but ran out of yarn. I was using a 9mm with the bulkier yarn. I'm having troubles with the increase . When you're increasing at 18 I was increasing with 24. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. Is it a 2 single crochets in each one single crochet?
@PlayHookywithMe3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ashley 🤗 To go from 18 to 24 , you want to put one single crochet into the next two stitches and then in the 3rd stitch you will put 2 single crochets . Single crochet, single crochet , 2 single crochets . And repeat that all the way around. If you are meaning you were trying to go from 12 to 18 , then you want to do one single crochet in the first stitch and then put 2 in the second stitch all the way around. Hope this helps and if not let me know xx

Ahh please help I ended my size at 9 increase. How do I start my brim and where do I increase? In what number stitch after starting the next row? 🙏 I’m learning a lot from making his hat thank you for the help ☺️
@PlayHookywithMe3 жыл бұрын
Once you’ve done the 9sc increase row you should have 66 stitches . For the start of your brim, work one round of sc into those 66 stitches but in the FRONT LOOP ONLY (this will give you a ridge to help start your brim) Next, continue with an increase row increase of 6 like you've been doing for the rest of the hat (72) The,n for the next round do 72 sc. Next, another increase row adding 6 more (78) . Then a final round of 78 sc . If you want to make the brim even bigger just do another inc row taking your 78 to 84 and add a sc row of 84 if you like. Totally up to you. You’re just doing what you’ve been doing the entire hat. The only difference Is working into the front loop only to start your brim. xx
@micheller82082 жыл бұрын
So- I’m around rows 6-8. And what I’m unsure about with the increase rows is : do you do the increase from 12 to 18 and then 2 more additional rows of 18. So 3 rows of 18. Or is it just 2 ? Help please I’ve been wanting to make one of these for 3 halloweens and finally found a tutorial I can follow
@PlayHookywithMe2 жыл бұрын
Right, you’ll increase to 18 and then do 2 more rows of 18. So 3 rows of 18 total. Then you’ll increase to 24 and follow that with 2 more rows of 24 . increase row + 2 rows = 3 rows with same number 🖤

That sounds like it’s worth a try - what a great idea . I’d make a mini one and try... I have a small witch hat pattern on my Halloween crow video ... maybe try before investing time and wool on a bigger one. Let me know if it works! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕

@PlayHookywithMe Жыл бұрын
Twice. After every increase round , you do 2 rounds with that same number . Giving you 3 rounds total with that number. 30,30,30, 42,42,42,48,48,48…
I have a question when Ur making it to the size u need when your increaseing do u do the next row without increasing then increase again. My hat went a bit of a funny shape. Xx
@PlayHookywithMe2 жыл бұрын
It’s done in a sequence of three. You do an increase row and then do two more rows with that same number. Example: you increase to 12 . Next , do two rounds with 12. Increase to 15, then do two rounds with 15 . And so on ….

My brim keeps rolling up no matter what I do any tips on the brim?
@PlayHookywithMe Жыл бұрын
I would recommend a fabric stiffener . You can brush a little bit of liquid starch on there or use spray starch. Go slowly with the starches because they can add a little film to the yarn which shows up more on black. You can also stiffen it with a diy mixture of equal parts water and glue and brush that onto the brim. Place your hat onto a surface where you can sit it upright and pin the brim into the shape you want … then use one of these methods and set to dry for a few hours 👍🏻💕

I did it a while back but it looks oretty floppy on the sides. I don t know how to fix it to have it stand straight. Should I use a smaller hook for the sides or use a tighter stich for them? Thank you crochet community. I re did it twice but the rim continues to flop...
@PlayHookywithMe2 жыл бұрын
I would suggest some liquid stiffener. I’ll probably do a video about this in the Fall (closer to Halloween) but you should be able to find some tutorials on how to stiffen a rim if you need something right now. How would I make a split color hat?
@PlayHookywithMe3 жыл бұрын
You would just have to fasten off after each round and fasten back on with your new color. I would recommend watching videos where people teach how to change color when working in rounds like amigurumi .

I know this is a 2 year old video now, but I have one question. Other than trying the hat on from time to time. How do you measure or know the stitch count for a specific circumstance?
@PlayHookywithMe Жыл бұрын
For me, I only made it for myself . If you’re wanting to make it for others sizes, I’d recommend you Google average head circumferences and then crochet until you reach that measurement using a tape measure. That’s how I would do it, anyway.

When starting the brim, do you continue increasing from where you left off on the hat or do you "restart" and increase as you did to start the hat? This is the only area I'm a bit confused about. (Just finished my round of front loop only stitching and am about to start in on the brim.) Can anyone offer any answers lol. (I'm trying desperately to get this finished by morning!)

Hello, is there a way to do this with double crochets? I tried but it came out too thin and tall I'm not sure how to change the pattern for a dc
@PlayHookywithMe2 жыл бұрын
There’s not a whole lot you can do to change that because double crochets are extending the length of your piece by double so you would have to start with a different stitch count to begin. Maybe half double crochets would work better if you don’t want to do singles. . Or you could do some rounds with half doubles and then move to doubles to help manage the length/circumference ratio. 💕

Help! My brim curls up and it looks more like gnome hat than a witch. What did I do wrong?
@PlayHookywithMe2 жыл бұрын
Did you work in the back loop only to start your brim? That helps to bend the hat to start the brim . If your brim is curling I would suggest you get some stiffener spray or liquid starch . I have a link in the description box below the video. Stiffen Quick is a popular product. Spray the brim only in the position you want. Use pins to help if necessary. I would also suggest adding a couple more rows to your brim to make it wider. It will look less like a gnome hat if you do. Hope that helps.

What is the name of your pink/ red 6.5 hook what brand is it? Thank you
@PlayHookywithMe3 жыл бұрын
Hi Connie, I bought this hook many years ago so I unfortunately don't know the brand. It is just an inexpensive aluminum hook that I got in a pack from my local craft store (I usually shop at Michaels, Walmart or Hobby Lobby) . I have added a link to an amazon option in the description box. I don't think this is the exact brand that I bought. The 6.5 mm looks like it is purple in this photo. But the tip and shape are the same. It is tapered like this. Hope that helps. xx

Hi! This is my very first attempt at crochet. I get confused when I finish the first inc row on each stitch (12) my 11-12 sc ends just before the stitch with the marker on. Is that supposed to happen? Or am I supposed to end my 12 sc in the last stitch with the marker?
@PlayHookywithMe2 жыл бұрын
Are you doing it just like me - or are you putting your stitch marker in at a different place?
@PlayHookywithMe2 жыл бұрын
If you’re doing it just like me , then you should be adding a stitch in the last one with a marker in it. If you find that confusing, you can instead put your marker in the first stitch. Whatever works best for you 💕

@PlayHookywithMe2 жыл бұрын
Maybe you can try to stiffen it with liquid starch. Try a spray like “stiffen quick” I’ll add a link in the description box below. Put some plastic on your table and then place your hat on the table with the brim in the position you want. Spray the brim with stiffener until it’s wet. Wrap a plastic bag around your hand to smooth the stiffener into the fibers. Let dry. Repeat again if necessary.

@PlayHookywithMe3 жыл бұрын
I’m not quite sure what you mean when you say on the back. I would suggest just continuing to work in rounds until it fits. Measure the area you want it to fit and keep crocheting in the round until you reach that measurement.

Do you have your yarn doubled up in here? if so, how did you do that?
@PlayHookywithMe2 жыл бұрын
Yes the yarn brand I used for this makes it very easy to pull a strand from the center as well as from the outside of the ball. (Red heart was the brand) Otherwise I would just work with 2 balls at the same time if it was too hard to find the tail of yarn in the center.
