Really love the sound of those V Horns, they just sound so good!

Indeed! Very impressed with them - they have much more life than the SWAM and Sample Modeling Brass. Only downfall is a little less flexibility with the extended articulations (falls, doits, shakes etc) and possibly slightly less dynamic range than Sample Modeling. They have a great tone though.

Just discovered your excellent channel (thanks to the vagaries of the YT algorithm). Loving the content - really speaking my musical language. With special reference to using a breath controller, I feel duty-bound to mention the exceptional SwarPlug4 VSTi from Swar VST. This is a wholly Indian-developed set of traditional Indian instruments and percussion for VSTi. Crucially - and this cannot, imo, be over-emphasized - it contains the absolute best Bansuri Indian bamboo flute I have ever come across in virtual instrument form. This is a thing of real beauty (talk about 'the sound of India') - and it was developed specifically with excellent breath control (although it also performs admirably and convincingly without). I'm gonna go out on a limb and assert SwarPlug4 is one of the very best VSTi's I have ever risked a purchase on. SwarPlug4 comes with a multitude of traditional Indian instruments (plucked, bowed, blown, etc), many featuring breath control support. Also a ton of percussion - all the beautiful Indian drums one might ever need). All are very high quality and invite the player to dig down and wrestle with technique. Many example loops (in MIDI form) are provided with expression intact - mostly traditional ragas for illustrative purposes. The software has a massive library of traditional scales for correct regional tunings, etc. But the Bansuri - this is the absolute star of the show for me. Hauntingly evocative (with a tasteful reverb applied - all instruments are supplied 'dry' by default) - and worth every penny of my investment. I haven't yet purchased a breath controller (Swar has some demo videos of the Bansuri being used with a BC, btw) but I am keen to do so shortly - specifically for this library. Anyone making ambient, cinematic, 'fourth world', or even traditional orchestral music might discover in SwarPlug4 a rich, diverse, high-quality library of amazing possibilities.

Always interesting to hear how close the various solo instruments can get to the real thing. PS - 10:56 :)...

SWAM seems to be improving pretty rapidly. I'm not 'in the know' so has it been updated a lot in the last year to improve it or is this just simply using it better than anyone else has! Beautiful!

Thanks! To me the core sound and usability of SWAM hasn't changed that much in recent years (although i think the solo strings are relatively new - 2021 ish) . I actually dismissed SWAM for the longest time because I struggled to get good results. Without practice they can sound pretty bad out the box... Lots of time messing around with them, using a breath controller and learning about bowing a bit definitely helps.

Altiverb

what is that positioner thing at the top right of the screen? Looks interesting! Also, what were your settings for the vhorns? Were they on default?
@vincecomposer5 ай бұрын
Positioner is Altiverb! Settings were more or less default (no reverb/reflections) with the vibrato amount customised to work well with my breath controller and i had control over bow pressure and position via faders. Cheers!

I see that you're using the position function on Altiverb to move the instruments around. Does this bring phasing issues or does Altiverb apply automatic phase correction for each position?

I haven’t noticed any issues myself but I’m afraid I couldn’t say for sure

Brother planning to get new native instruments complete edition to start with composing music Any recommendations?? On vst

Hi! Thanks for watching. I don’t have Komplete but I own some of the instruments in it and it seems like a a good value for money if you’re just starting out. For orchestral sounds - if I could have just one set it would be the cinematic studio series (strings, brass woodwinds) for percussion I like spitfire percussion. These ones sound the most realistic overall to me- but they require a bit of work to use and are expensive. My tip would be to cover your bases with the best sounding samples you can afford and then invest a good amount of time learning how to use them effectively. Musio and east west composer cloud are also good options. (Is probably lean towards musio) Usually it isn’t the library but how you use it that makes the biggest difference! Good luck!

Thank you for this demo. I keep watching videos going back and forth on the SWAM vs Acoustic Samples and I’m stuck. Do you think one is more suited for pop/soul music than the other?? Thank you again!
@vincecomposer Жыл бұрын
Hi Santino! To me personally the Vhorns have a much more authentic tone and I’d generally favour them in a pop/soul context. Still not a patch on real players of course!
