The progress is slooow but steady. Next target is to end the issue with the marbles missing the funnels, until i have done that i dont think we can achieve a perfect score. I also noticed that the score doesnt get punished enough for failed marbles, when rounding the score to two decimal points you couldnt see a difference. So i should probably alter the score calculation function in the spreadsheet for that. Thank you everyone for following the build! These are the larger remaining steps until full completion: - hihat activation - Cymbal Activation - plywood module for vibraphone (same design as for drums) - vibraphone marble droppers (same design as for drums) - plywood module for bass (same design as for drums) - bass marble droppers (same design as for drums but smaller, trickier) + a lot of smaller extras, but it seems within reach i think!

Martin, one way you could improve the funnels would be to bracket them to the frame at the base of the funnel, instead of relying on the PMMA to support them. that way the funnel as a whole doesn't move during playing, while the spring back can still move. additionally, less than 10 marbles out of 50000 lost to missing the funnel is really good. keep in mind that is a non destructive failure that doesn't directly effect the song. The last two or three tests have had a 0% critical failure rate, meaning nothing was damaged that would prevent you putting a marble or two back in the machine and continuing to play a concert. Also first time commenting, but i've been watching since the beginning. Regards

You've probably been told this countless times, but those plywood threads are not going to hold up well over time, especially if you're taking the screws out repeatedly. You can get special inserts that you can press and/or glue in that will provide a metal thread that will last forever. Fortunately you can just drill out the existing threaded hole with a hand drill and stick the insert in there, so it's not like you're making a mistake here. But keep those in mind for when these connections start getting sloppy.
@ebouwman034

I think this is kind of a prototyping stage. At some point he’ll have to add threaded inserts, but right now he’s just getting parts in there and seeing what works. I’m sure he’ll put it off though and it’ll come to bite him in the ass.

This feels like one of the best episodes in a while. I actually laughed so hard my sides hurt when the CNC went straight for those screws. I loved seeing the engineering put into fixing previous problems and adding the new tracks in. I like the new spreadsheet and in this episode it really feels like the MMX is progressing nicely and has a clear path forward. Then you put in some footage of the early shop and that music box clip to tie it into early episodes. Awesome! This one is super exciting.

The reason you hear the beats when trying to sleep is two-fold... 1: Your brain tries to mute repetition and saturation, for sanity and sensory reasons. So you can hear beyond those saturations. Like your inability to smell yourself as strong as others smell you. (Including cologne, B.O., farts, breath...) The self-muting can continue, having reverse effects, as no sensory input is filling the brain and your brain attempts to un-mute the sensory saturation that was once present. (Like sound canceling... if you are trying to remove sound by negative waves, but the sounds you are canceling don't actually exist, it just sounds like it is amplifying the noise that it should be canceling. The negative waves become virtually positive.) 2: Stress... Your are stressed, or "thinking", while hearing that sound. At night, you are TRYING to relax, but you are self-resonating stressed and "thinking", of similar things that you thought about while hearing the beats. Your brain is doing a Pavlov effect. It is associating "thinking", and "stress" with the "beat", and filling-in the blanks, matching the "muted anti-muting" that your brain is attempting to do. (Pavlov... ring a bell and the dog starts to salivate, in anticipation of being fed. After being trained with "beats" on a bell, prior to "thinking", under "stress".) Put on some low music, so your ears can focus on that, and accelerate the muting process back to normal. Your brain will mute the muting, to focus on the sound and the music should help reduce stress. May be impossible, but make an effort to NOT THINK before bed. You can simply tell yourself, out loud, to give yourself a break and not think. (It's not like the "don't think of elephants", issue... It is a psychological permission to not do something. You literally have to verbally say it, not just think about saying it, or it doesn't work. Then it becomes the elephant that you shouldn't think about, and it will be something you can't stop thinking about. Because you are "thinking" of "not thinking", instead of "hearing" that you have permission to not-think.) Also, wear headphones, sound canceling ones, while in that room, while testing. Though you will still "feel" the beats, your ears won't be damaged and your brain won't be "saturated", as much. There is no reason that you need to "hear" all that "noise", while testing. You use your eyes to observe anyways, and cameras too. It will give you the chance to think while also increasing your potential observation. Your brain is limited in the number of things it can, effectively, do at once. Though, obviously yours is more effective than many others, at doing multi-tasking... Why purposely limit yourself with undue stress, noise, observation and thinking. Vacations aren't only needed in lump-sums, at the end of months... but during the day too. P.P.S. Logic and mechanical thinking requires a lot of oxygen. Creativity, opposite of logic and linear thinking, requires oxygen deprivation. In the day, when oxygen is greatest and CO2 is lowest, is best for logical thinking. At night, when CO2 is high as plants switch from creating oxygen to consuming it, and they create tons of CO2, you think more creatively, in a pre-dream state. Try to isolate logical thinking to daytime and creative creations to night time. Besides, creative thinking is less stressful than logical thinking, obviously. Work on making music, instead of trying to design complex logical structures. Paint something, draw doodles, play a game, go out and socialize... Just don't work into the late hours, unless it's "creative work". It will be like trying to drive a car with square wheels, up hill, towing a house, on ice, into the wind, powered off steam. Save the driving for the day-time, when the wind has changed to your back, your tires have been fully inflated back to being round, the crest of the hill has been breached, the ice has melted, there is more oxygen to burn with petrol, and the house is not weighed down by night-time condensation.
