Graeme, I think you are a great teacher. There are a number of top class players giving playing guidance on KZbin but they lack your teaching qualities.

Thanks, Gordon, that’s really nice of you to say. These live classes with random hands are quite hard because, heck, bridge is tough and it sometimes all goes wrong. But if any of it’s helpful then that’s just great, let’s keep going.

It will be very helpful if you can describe a plan to make the contract e.g. how many sure tricks , how can we develop tricks , did opponent's bids provide any details, what is the probability of a suite breaking 3:3, 3:2, 4:1 etc. Thanks.

Would N not add points for a singleton once the suit was agreed? New to your excellent channel. Thank you

Would you bid 1no trump if you have two doubletons?

Answered my query later in vid. Apologies

Playing all these hands on the fly means I don’t always explain things clearly at the time and I often say West instead of North and so on. But hopefully it’s helpful. Glad we got this one sorted.

What should east lead?
@helenpearce98582 жыл бұрын
Graeme when your partner increased the bid to 3S could you then re add your hand counting 1 point for the doubleton and then 1 extra point for the foruth trump give you 10 points, when your partner is showing a possible 16 points?

I could have, but I still didn't think I had such a great hand. Game could have been defeated on that hand so I was happy enough in a part score.

Hello from New York. Hand 2 seemed like north didn’t have enough to jump to 3nt
@Skybridgeclub2 жыл бұрын
Hello Ellen in New York! Yes, North didn't have much. He knows that I'll have a good hand when I bid 2S, though, and heck! - he didn't pay his table money to play in a part score. Thanks for taking the time to comment, glad to have you with us.

I never count my J or Q UNLESS there is a K as well. Sometimes i therefore undervalue my hand.

Jacks and Queens on their own aren't much good, you're right! Partner might be the one who has the King so you might still get some value out of those cards and a Jack or a Queen is better than a 3 or a 2 but on that hand you're talking about those Queens look like they might not be pulling their weight.

I am way too late.. :))) Many use Rule of 22 rather then rule of 20
@Skybridgeclub Жыл бұрын
Yes, I think the rule of 20 is a helpful starting point to at least think about the value of shape but it certainly doesn’t give a complete picture of a hand’s strength. Mondays, 7pm New Zealand time is normally when I normally do the livestreams. Happy to have you join in if it’s a suitable time for you! It’s more fun when there are people chatting live.

I am about 11 hours difference. Yes, rule of 20 is a good starting Point. Honestly, I do not know if I ever used it. There are so many bids I forgot over 2 years due to COV and not playing. Then I play lots of Precision, now. I made a terrible mistake yesterday, that cost us 2nd place. Thanks for response, it is 2:30 pm, on Friday. Thanks for a response, probably 1:30 Am there.

I thought 2 clubs would show 5 clubs
@Skybridgeclub2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jenny, often that 2C bid will show 5 but it doesn't have to be 5. Sometimes it's still better to show a suit at a low level rather than leaping off too high in notrumps.
