I wouldn’t bid Stayman on that hand even with the right point count, I agree. I was just going through the bidding to show why the hand isn’t strong enough for Stayman.

Hi Graham, I have only just started playing and the little fold out brochure was written with your collaboration, I love these videos and are learning a lot from them, but you definitely stray from your advice given in the brochure, I understand that with experience and a partner of similar aggression my game will evolve, do you have any tips for me going foward on how to optimise that evolution

There’s no right or wrong way to learn but I’m happy to give you my take on things. First of all, do you know how to score? If you do, great. If not then that’s one of the first things to deal with. It’ll take a little bit of working through but it’s really not that hard. All the bidding ideas that I talk about and all the times I seem to stray from the what the beginner books say will not really make any sense until you can work out the scores. There’s a scoring playlist on this KZbin channel so I’d have a look at that first. That’s your first step towards better bidding. You’ve also got to work on your card play. Have a look at the first couple of videos in the card play playlist where I’m giving examples of how establishing long suits. There’s a notrump video and a suit contract video. Pretty much everything is always going to come back to scoring and establishing long suits. Nail those concepts first. Here to help.

Thanks for the quick reply I wasn’t expecting one so soon As far as scoring I understand the points scoring it’s the percentage scoring that’s a mystery to me so I will watch those videos and see if I get any success As far as my card play It’s actually the most comfortable part of my game, I have played alot of 500 and having your partners hand face up if you’re the declarer really makes things a lot easier, although your analysis of where the cards are in each hand makes me feel very amateur, I also think playing a lot of 500 has helped my defending play I know the part of my game that is most lacking is my bidding, that’s why I love these videos because I pause them and work thru what I feel would be appropriate, but at the same time somewhat frustrating because I’m not on the same page as you as often as I would like I really do appreciate you taking the time to answer me

Hi I’m new to the game, in that last hand why didn’t North do a 4 hearts pre emptive bid, my limited understanding is he needs 6-10 and 8 hearts, as I said I’m new and I may have that completely wrong

4H from North would be a perfectly good bid, your understanding is fine!
