You're a very good teacher. I just retired from teaching band for 31 years, and I like the fact that you present the info in a "there is more than one way to skin a cat" format, while still showing the advantages and drawbacks to each. Well done! I am just starting the bass and I am very daunted about this instrument. I wish I'd begun when I was younger!

I’m just starting out and just cannot figure out the right wrist without bending it. It’s just very awkward. I see how your arm lays while fingerpicking but I’m not able to replicate that for some reason, i’m playing around with strap height but I’ve barely started & my right arm is already killing me.

I should be starting the electric bass ... I'm not that"young" (going in my forties), but I think I can still learn. The problem on the Internet is that there are waaaay too much videos for beginners; very difficult to make a choice; plus I don't feel at ease at all with video tutorials, and I usually don't have the Internet at home ' Think I'd better go for a few lessons with a real teacher to begin with, even though it's a bit expensive, just to learn the basics; and then I'll continue by myself with booklets ... After all, people have been learning to play instruments long before the Internet era ...

Great lesson! I've played for years but now am getting much more serious and starting to record and I've noticed that I'm really annoyed by a click I was hearing in my right hand attack so I watched this video. I do the rest stroke naturally and the click or thud is my striking finger coming to rest on the string below. This video has taught me that I'm playing much too hard (years of having underpowered equipment and no training) and I think you didn't mention it but I think you're muting the string you come to rest on with a different finger. Is that accurate?
