Playing better guitar solos doesn’t have to be complicated!!! We can learn to play better guitar solos by looking at the habits of our favorite guitar players. Using the structure of the minor pentatonic scale we can create our own blues rock lead guitar solos. We can improve our lead guitar solos using the scale we know and love, the 1st position minor pentatonic scale.

Rusty, you know I’m right here. A tad beyond my present skill set so I am doing the next best thing. Chunking. I can just concentrate on the first three notes. I will just bend and vibrate the first notes until it’s pretty like yours. You entertain me as well as you teach.

Hi Rusty, another great video & some good news that you don't have to know all the fancy scales (though it does help, I'm sure) to play a great solo. And, you started off with possibly the best pentatonic solo ever 'Whole lotta love'. I know this is your favourite & it's certainly mine as well! I remember Neville Marten , when he was Editor of Guitarist magazine, went through his Top Ten of his favourite Solos he liked playing. Whole Lotta Love came in at No.1 because of the energy it had. I agree with him and you, especially on that riff you mentioned. Every time I hear that solo, I wait for that riff - just perfect! I've watched others on their channels, demonstrate this solo, but I have to say that none of them inject the energy that you do to make it sound so much like the original. That's why I keep coming back to you! Keep up the good work. I always look forward to watching a new video from you!

Spot on! And perfect timing, I mean the technique used there on high e, g and b strings 1st pentatonic box bend up a step to a rake then up again, I have a habit every time I pick up my strat or tele, I do that move, noodle around whatever is in my head, the other day I heard it zeppelin a whole lotta love midway section of the song its along tune! And I was thinking 🤔 how is it done, and lo and behold all in that box pretymuch, it's about style , rythum and timing. I've noticed exactly what you said about artists having their habits, I'd add to that along with the bassist the lead guy in rock with all of the best guitarists they rock along with the drummer for maximum effect in these hard hitting solos, mellower stuff keys and synth, acoustic and vocals. I love how a well made band will give each other the space to do their thing and complement each other. I'd also say I was getting a bit fed up with how I was habitually tending to that particular lick/box section, blues rock, and this video you've connected the similarities between different bands/artist, and showed us all again Rusty, how to make more from less, I'm no shredder I like the 5 or 6 note blues scales, maybe even throw in a couple more and make it 7 but that's another lesson not too far of a learning curve from the guts of what makes this blues rock scale work. Cheers Rusty! 🍻 A gentleman and a scholar

Just a quick note and please don't take this as insult. You are an excellent teacher and I love your videos. Anyway, not that I can even play lead guitar....yet... I was told like you were saying about using your third finger to bend notes because you have more strength, I was shown you can use your middle finger right behind it on the same string and use both fingers to help. I'm sure you already know that but I just wanted to mention it for newbies like myself 😊 Thank you so much for your videos ❤❤❤❤

I've never heard most of this stuff. Being a Christian since I was in my early 20's I made it a point to never study anyone's music but my own. Had some draw backs but now at 45 I'm confident in the Lord's will for the music I play. It's not Christian and it's not anyone else's. But hearing that this is like this person or this is like that person and then seeing it played for the first time is exciting cause I now know some stuff and it's so fresh with zero influence of who played it. E minor pentatonic and A major has shaped my style. I can play in any key I'm sure. 🔑 feels good.

@@rustysguitar1 , welcome friend, I do understand that. I didn't really start to learn until covid hit. I had a spiritual block due to my unwillingness to let some sins go. God couldn't give me thr gift of hearing until I was ready to listen. Now, I'm like a flood gate. The notes pour in. Being like nobody else, I have a unique playing style that isn't like anyone. I'll hqve to take a video of it. You'll trip! It's Definitely bluesy. Thanks again for giving us lessons.

I could name a whole lotta lovely songs that use that box.. Badoom.tssh In any coulour you like, both 5 and 6 note scales, obviously led zep whole lotta, pink floyd because i try play Gilmours stuff the most- shine on, opening of the wall part 2 solo B minor, comfortably numb 2nd solo in B minor, more more more Gilmour licks, uh.. bonamassa .. a lot! Zz top Im passed trying to remember the songs licks you played i mean It is so versatile the problem is idk, so i learn these licks in otder to find out what works because i already know what works from the tunes i listen to, and it dies help inspire creativity but udk if i could write a solo section... it would most definitely be comprised of parts nicked off of almost every legend guitarists I've learned to play, i think humming and whistling a brand new/ish tune into existence would be about it, unless there is a formula for making it happen... i'd pay for that if its not already posted somewhere online lol Rock on Tommy 🤙
