This is a great lesson!! I have been taking guitar lessons for almost a year. I sometimes check out YT lessons. I can't believe I am just now discovering Rusty's channel. Glad I did, I'm learning scales and theory and this is exactly what I was looking for. Rusty seems like a very good teacher.

A perfect lesson in the Blues, where simple things like just one extra note for each chord added to a lone pentatonic first-position scale can make all the difference.

For me, the fundamental requirements are 1) knowing the notes on the fingerboard, and 2), knowing the notes of the chords concerned. That's a LOT of learning, but (imo) it's crucial to great improvising. I'm a long way from that knowledge, in fact I have to do the research and write down the notes of the chords and kind of plot out my solo ahead of time. So it's not improvising for me (yet), it's more like composing I suppose. But the interesting thing is, when I do just improvise and let myself get absorbed in the moment, I find that many of the notes that I use are just as you mentioned in the last lesson.....that is to say that I am starting the phrase and ending the phrase on a chord tone, by complete accident. I record myself and go back over what I have just done, and I am amazed to find that my ear is working quite well in steering me to the 'right' notes to start and end on!! I have a long way to go....but this journey is full of surprises, and it's pure magic. THANK YOU Rusty.....you have made such a difference to my playing this year. Have a wonderful break over the festive season, and Play it Loud!
@rustysguitar18 ай бұрын
Hey Neil, well said buddy! You will be improvising on a fly in no time! You are definitely working on the right techniques. Maybe just composing now but those sounds will come out faster and faster.
