Those sticks are magic! I have the same issue with Cajon. The sounds produced by hand hitting is very plain and flat. But these sticks really adds a lot of flavour to the beat!

You’re one of the first percussionists to share that with me. Very cool.

Thank you for making this video. I've been playing with my hands for quite some time, and I was kind of curious on using cajon sticks. This will definitely upgrade what I do with my shakers and tams

I too use similar implements to those you are using (Vater Monster Brushes). What I get the most balanced sound with is using one brush/stick in a loose grouping, and the Schlagwerk Sizzle Board strapped on my right leg to get a HH/Cym/Shaker effect. This way I can use hands, brush/stick, or any combination on the board and cajon, allowing me to switch back and forth between shaker sound and fills without picking up anything else.

That’s really cool. I had’t heard of the Schlagwerk until now.

I think I may need these sticks! I have been using natural straw like sticks SBRU30RS by Stagg. These are great and I have flattened the ends both out by wrapping wire ties a few cms up from the handles and tying a string at the centre through the 'straws'. They provide a nice natural sounding swish but they are wearing out and bits keep breaking off. Your playing sounds really good with some cool tips.

I love it... I think we can vary between hands and the Cajón sticks depending on the groove and song... Creativity is a beautiful tool in music, give it that different sound that can highlight the music and make it diverse to stand out... But that’s just me 🤷‍♂️ 🎶

I use them on my cajon, and can still hit a Remo bucket snare. I have to play the bucket pretty softly, I don’t think the “sticks” really play loud enough, certainly not as loud with just hands but they have their place. When I use sticks I can’t play cabasa on he side of cajon either.

I haven't tried the snare bucket. Do you like it?

Rhythm Notes Yes I do. Bear in mind I am just starting to be a stick drummer, have been doing hand percussion and hand drumming for yrs. When I finally got on the cajon bandwagon, I saw “broomsticks” being used, but I don’t feel they really get that snare sound out of the Cajon’s that have snares. So I bought one of the Remo bucket heads with the snares and tried it out. A kick set buddy of mine checked it out, thought I was cool and a legit way to accompany the cajon. You can also use the thicker headed one for a Tom-Tom as well. I started snare drum lessons late last yr, I wanted to play the caixa drum in our Samba band. But with the Covid and breaking my wrist I put it hold hold for awhile. Returning to it slowly. I like both the Meinl plastic brushes as well as the broomstick brushes. It depends on what sound you want for the music.

Do you think it’s possible to get a rimshot type sound with a cajon, with these sticks or without?
@RhythmNotes
@RhythmNotes 7 ай бұрын
I haven't been able to. I would try the Meinl cajon snare that's about $70. ... Actually, come to think of it ... may try a wooden ruler. Smack the face of the cajon lightly with flat side of the ruler. That might sound like a rimshot.

I’ve become a fan and collector or cajon brushes….. and things that work well as brushes. Has anyone tries using fly swatters. 🙄 Also sticking a large pompoms on the end of lightweight drums sticks will give you a great bass! 🥴 Are you gonna ask me about toilet bowl brushes?😕
@RhythmNotes

Hmm ... have you tried toilet bowl brushes?
@Stoker47
@Stoker47 Жыл бұрын
@@RhythmNotes toilet bowl brushes, a questionable esthetic, are magical. Not as “thumpy” as the Meinl standard Cajon brush, great brush tones around the edges of the Cajon face, and shorter handles provide good rebound. Can play with a bit more vigor on the softer tunes but you don’t really need to since my cajon is miked .😎

Playing cajon with sticks for drumset. It sounds like shit regardless of what I use. The bass drum sound is OK, but the snare sounds like a really bad hi hat or something, regardless of what it's hit with, it's just not explosive and beefy enough to make the style of music I am making and it sucks because I've got no space for a real drum kit.
