THIS the dark souls experience I’M used to. Ellen just zips past most bosses like it’s nothing, (well done Ellen, you’re absolutely smashing it!) but I’m glad not the only one yelling “I dodged that!!” And tossing the controller down after a disappointing death.

Tbf nothing in main game is as difficult as Nameless. I could see Ellen struggling in the library, against the Princes, and maybe against the final boss as well. (This not mentioning the DLC which is filled with multiple bosses more difficult than the Nameless King)

the nameless king has a few attacks that have invisible frames that will damage ya for some reason. Zullie the Witch did a video on one like his thrust attack in phase 2 have a frame where he spins it to the left for 2-3 frames that ya cant see it but will damage ya if ya roll/strife left. that killed me multiple times to the point that i just summoned a few people and they kill him for me.

The problem is that FromSoft games require near frame perfect inputs at times, but often fail on the technical side to actually register and act upon said inputs. A bit over ambitious from their side in my opinion.

People from normally hot climates may sneer about what is considered face-melting heat in other regions... but dangit, we have air-conditioning standard-built into every building. Yes, half the summer might be days where the highs are above 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celcius)--we get about a week a year where the high every day hovers around 110 F (43 C)--but ask us to spend a week with 85-degree F (30-ish C) weather with no AC and we'll be pretty pathetically miserable too. And heaven help us when the AC dies at home in the height of summer---time to book a hotel! All that to say, as a person from the Southern US, I am impressed by Ellen's heat-endurance. Drink lots of cold water, stick to lower floors in rooms with northern-facing or small windows if you can, use air-circulating fans liberally, and take care of yourself. Heat can be brutal, and heat exhaustion/stroke can sneak up on you. Especially in stuffy rooms not built to disperse heat.

Solid warm-up. This goof is one of the few soulsborne bosses that gets stroppy without your complete attention. You need to be able to predict him so effectively that you achieve an almost zen-like state in order to whoop him. A difficult, nigh impossible feat at two hours a week. Strong observational skills, well timed dodge-rolls, game awareness, and the devil's own luck will not cut it this time. Consequently, despite dividing your concentration between playing and streaming and only playing in short bursts with long breaks inbetween, you still managed to come close to winning, proving that you are adept at these games.

I have a few games (Kena Bridge of Spirits, amongst others) where I'll actually fight better when my healing oppertunities are gone. I think it's because while I can still heal, keeping an eye on my health bar and interrupting my movements (to press the healing controls) distract me enough that I actually get hit a LOT more often. So when I can't heal anymore, I'm fully focussed on the fight and evading more accurately, so my remaining health lasts a lot longer xD

Sending cooling thoughts toward Ellen, may (ha, “May”, haha) I recommend- as a person who spent much of the months of May and June without AC- a cool wet towel around your neck, damp headband so one of the two major cool down spots on your body (your temples and inner wrists respectively) is constantly kept relatively cool and slightly damp (it hasn’t negatively effected my headphones thus far, if that helps), constant hydration, and maybe blackout curtains for the streaming room to keep the sun from heating it up, as all things that really helped me keep my sanity and stave off heat exhaustion during that hellish time. But hopefully, once you get your AC on Saturday, you won’t need any of this advice at all, and can feel free to totally ignore it! ☺️

In my playthrough of Dark Souls 3 it took me many attempts to defeat the Nameless King but eventually I was able to emerge victorious and I believe that you can too Ellen. Some of the Souls bosses that were most satisfying to defeat for me are Ornstein and Smough, Genichiro Ashina, The great Shinobi Owl both at Ashina Castle and Hirata estates Isshin Ashina the sword saint, and of course the Nameless King to name a few examples.

This is from memory so it might be wrong, but I believe staggering is done by basically filling an invisible poise bar similar to how poisons and other debuffs effect the main character, Different weapons will increase poise damage different amounts with heavy weapons dealing more poise damage. I don't remember if bosses regain poise over time or not but I would assume so. Also some bosses like Yhorm will have special situations when they stagger, such as taking a headshot from a ranged weapon.

People forget or dont realise that the entirety of the roll animation is not invulnerable. only the first part of it is. so even if you roll through it or think you did, you can still get caught out before the animation ends and you have become vulnerable. roll too early and the enemy will catch you, roll too late and you will get hit. thats the game. its even more complicated in ds2 lol.

Hello all! I'm here to give tips for King of the Storm and the Nameless King, or John Wick's dog and John Wick. As you can see, this boss do be tough. On my first playthrough, it took me 40 attempts before I went "sod it" and summoned some lovely Sunbros to give me a hand. During my second playthrough, I realized something that brought the number of tries to four (4). I'll only give a hint for the Nameless King, and not a full rundown of buffs and what not. So, let's begin: King of the Storm, or John Wick's Dog Useful items: Lightning Resins and Bundles, Yellow and Red Bug Pellets (for the lightning and fire resistances, respectively) Useful Weapons: Thrusting weapons, e.g.: spears, rapiers, R2 on the Claymore and Longsword. Useful Spells: Lightning Spear (all variants), Lightning Arrow Useful Tips: Like the other dragon in this game, not the Ancient Wyvern, you want to stay in front of him. The King will likely fly up and spew fire beneath themselves, and I don't think you'll have enough time to flee. Plus, the head takes bonus damage. The camera is the greatest opponent in this fight, so I recommend fighting locked off and only use lock on to help orient yourself. The claw grip is particularly useful. Nameless King, or John Wick Uh oh, you killed his dog. Now you know you're in trouble. The hint: Observe what happens when you're close, mid, and far away.

I've noticed that the nameless king punishes greed. Coming in a touch to early to grab an extra swipe, getting a touch to close to ensure a hit, grabbing an estus to early in a telegraph all seem to trigger special attacks that cut off just enough that a big hit always kills.

Been playing this game along with your videos for the past month, and I always pause on the bosses to try and beat them myself before watching Ellen go at it. Every time she beats them in far fewer attempts than I do; the girl is unreal at these games! This boss took me a week of attempts to beat, and I only now watched the previous video and this one. The fact that I'm watching this means you can beat him Ellen! (My advice, in case don't get it by the end of this video, is to consistently back away from NK in the second round. IMO this boss is a little less aggressive when you are farther away, and it also gives you a better chance to anticipate his mixed up time signature and to heal when necessary.

39:53 was not the game being unfair. when you are prone and unable to roll the game gives you s but the moment you are able to roll the s last for a few frames more and runs out. it doesnt last for the entirely of the wake up animation. so while it is a good idea to not immediately roll on that wake up animation when subjected to an aoe attack like the dragon breath, on a targeted attack it is ideal to roll as fast as possible. i'm sure the exact numbers are out there but playing it you just get a feel for it.

A most excellent stream and going to cool off was definitely a good call. I hope the air con works perfectly and gets that room to a more livable temp. I think you've really gotten the hang of the fight between timing rolls and fiddling with the camera. My grudge against the camera stems from how certain bosses will break the lockon because of how they move and then I'm frantically trying to lock back on and the camera does its stupid centering thing instead. I think you handled the fight very well, Ellen, particularly with so long away from the game as a whole. It's been very hot where I am and even with AC I haven't been in the mood for any game. Micolash is my next fight in Bloodborne and I've kept putting it off because of how he runs around the place, and now I'm dreading the fight because I know how rusty I'm going to be.

He brought my first playthrough to a halt too. But, I beat him on my 3rd. It was intense, but less difficult than I expected after I found out he's weak to dark damage. Any decently upgraded dark-infused weapon will knock out significant chunks of his health. Dark pyromancies/miracles work too, but he's too upclose most times to cast them safely. Also, equip/use anything that ups lightning defence like yellow bug pellets as it helps mitigate a lot of his attacks.

(However there are more difficult ones in the DLC) if it makes you feel better Ellen he took me upwards of 50+ attempts my first go around in this game. :) All that being said, believe it or not, Ellen may be a little too underleveled in the HP department. It's so weird to see Ellen *really* struggle with a boss, though it's not hard to see why; I hate these two stage fights where it's hard to get good at fighting the second stage because you need to repeat the first every single time. Might be one that needs a montage for the next stream? Nameless King has now taken an entire stream, and a pretty big chunk of the last one as well.

This was the only boss in DS3 I couldn't beat. Not because the fight in and of itself was overly difficult, but I always got horrific RNG in the 2nd phase. I watched a lotta people do it where he mostly stayed in front of you, but every time for me was just dart off screen to break lock-on, then you cant find him, then youre getting combo-ed out of existence.

Win or lose, these streams continue to impress. I simply would not have Ellen's patience or persistence to keep trying against such a relentless, grossly overpowered foe. Speaking of Soulsborne foes: what do fellows like the Nameless King get up to when they're not fighting the latest undead contender? Does the King simply sit idly at his fortress, forever poised for battle? Or does he, for instance, read, train, write his memoirs, look after his dragon, or do anything that might resemble having a life? It's just hard to get a feel for what - if anything - might be running through his head outside of combat.

i think both of these are obvious that i don't need to say it but i will say it anyway. just because you didn't defeat the boss doesn't mean great progress was made in this stream, also your health is the most important thing and i hope that AC will help out keeping the room cool for you Ellen

Everything I have seen about the Dark Souls/Fromsoft games is that the camera is the weakest part/greatest enemy. For a game that people always tout as wonderful for how "realistic" the combat is compared to most games, the fact that bad game camera is actively exploited for some bosses seems like terrible game design and artificial difficulty to me.

the camera is mostly fine it’s just an easy scapegoat when things aren’t going well. for king of the storm, the trick is to stay in front of the head, whether locking on or freecamming, so you can see the nameless king and to avoid the aoe fire breath. if you walk behind the head you can’t see nameless, and the camera is going to whip around, making it seem bad. not all fromsoft cameras are good but nameless is fine

no one touts dark souls as having 'realistic' combat lol. that is literally not true. 'realistic' combat games would be chivalry or mount and blade or kingdom come deliverance that employ things like directional blocking/attacks, parries and feints. not dark souls where you can roll around wearing chunks of rock on your body while carrying a massive wooden log lmao. also the most realistic combat i have seen so far is in a game called hellish quart which is a side on fighting game but with real historical swords and movement.

I'd say most times the camera is not an issue. It's only super annoying bosses like King of the Storm, Demon Prince, and Darkeater Midir who are too large to lock-on with the camera unless you're up-close. Then, when you do lock-on, they lose the lock-on by flying out of shot. Or, they do a big AoE attack, so you have to hurriedly disengage the lock-on so you sprint away from the attack instead of towards it. With those few bosses, it definitely feels like a big portion of the fight is spent wrangling the camera just so you can see where the boss is or find your character.

Luke is actually giving pretty bad advice for this fight. What you want to do is stay under the dragon and give distance during the downward flame attack. DO NOT stay on the ground in the MIDDLE of a FIRESTORM. I can't tell you how many good runs were cut short because the second wave of damage hit my character. Yes, beat the dragon while it's doing the "input flame attack." That was good advice. But a good amount of everything else he's been saying is pretty much getting Ellen killed.

One of the tricks I've found for the second phase of Nameless King is sticking close to him and rolling *towards* his attacks, the I-frames will carry you through, and you get more opportunities to hit him. Edit: also, yes, take care of your health first. The view count would be amazing, but no one ACTUALLY wants to see Ellen hurt. 🤗

A bit of advice to Ellen for heat management: Windows open when the sun is not on them, windows closed and curtains drawn when the sun is on them. Windows aren't quite as focused as a magnifying glass being used to start fires (being, y'know, not a lens) but like the magnifying glass, they transmit direct sun heat just fine. (If you're living in a place that's even remotely modern, it'll have double or triple glazed windows that basically block most heat the way a thermos does, but the vacuum of space doesn't really do much to stop the sun from heating us up, why would another centimeter or so of vacuum between panes of windows.) Also, if you've got a room that's already hot and can't use air conditioning (either because you don't have it or because noise), a portable fan blowing air *out* an open window will actually manage to cool off the place a little. It's certainly less than you'd get with an air conditioner, but it makes the difference between intolerable and tolerable. I don't know why, my best guess is the air that flows into the room to replace what the fan blows out is flowing in through tiny gaps in the walls and so forth that let outside air cool off a bit before it gets to the room you're trying to cool. (If you're curious about the physics on why windows don't block heat from the sun, read on; if not: nothing helpful here) Heat transfers in three ways: conduction (generally solid/liquid to solid/liquid, so when you touch stuff), convection (air moving around, when a shaded space feels hot), and radiation (heat transferred through electromagnetic waves.) Radiation is normally the least efficient of these, but it's the hardest to effectively block because radiation doesn't need a substance to carry it, it just goes...but because the sun does an *awful lot* of radiating heat, it's pretty darn noticeable regardless. And while it can get the energy in through a window, once that energy has become heat, it's only moving via conduction and convection so it can't get back *out*. Radiation comes in a huge spectrum of ranges, from extremely high energy gamma rays that rip through most things and screw with your DNA, to the extremely low energy stuff like radio waves, and it becomes heat (thermal energy, to be precise) when the radiation is absorbed by something. The highest energy stuff doesn't make it down to the surface; the earth's magnetic field stops it at a height that only space travellers need to be concerned about (and sometimes puts on pretty light shows around the poles in the process), but mid level stuff like visible light and ultraviolet radiation still contains a fair bit of energy, and with the amount the sun pumps out to us, it's more than enough to heat a room beyond comfortable levels. Opaque stuff blocks most of that energy (and indeed, can reflect it back through the window - many curtains and blinds are white on the outer side because that's the best colour for reflecting visible light), so curtains can block it, but windows cannot. All that light coming in through the window eventually gets absorbed by something, but if it's absorbed by something on the edge of the room or, better still, outside the room, then it's not in the room cooking you. Technically that still leaves low energy stuff like radio waves but, uhh...unless you're planning on moving to a cave or a bunker, you're not gonna block radio waves. Fortunately, that component is low enough energy that it doesn't give quite the blast furnace effect of sun on an unobstructed window.

I had a few ad breaks on this stream, but not enough to break up the flow or become an annoyance. I think ad placement is sometimes (or partially) controlled by KZbin's algorithm, so it can vary a lot from one viewer to the next.
