When I was a kid my grandma was tasked with buying me and my brother a PlayStation for Christmas. She mistakenly bought us a Sega Saturn. The only games we ever had for it were Daytona, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Cop, and Sonic 3D Blast

Daytona on the Saturn was the first video game I ever played when I was like 2 or 3 and I loved it, I remember it vaguely but my parents tell me I used to play it all the time, which mainly consisted of my driving against a wall 90% of the time. And according to them I used to sing the Daytona theme song unrelentlessly at random intervals during the day.

Sega Saturn is my favourite console. Just the music from Virtua Fighter 2 gives me goosebumps and smiles. Both my Saturns are broken but luckily Mednafen is pretty much 100% the best Saturn emulator yet

Daytona Saturn was my jam back in the day and there wasn't a person who came into my house that wasn't blown away by it and the wheel thing that i had. For the time even with all the limitations it was just amazing.

I would like to see something like a counterpart to the launch titles series for end of life cycle titles. Maybe along the lines: -last official release -last cross-gen triple A release -last exclusive triple A release -highest and lowest ranked among the last, say, ten official releases (counting backwards from end of official production of the console) -latest inoffical mod release

I was in Malta at the time. The PS1 cost me £600 without a controller and £200 for 1 controller. The games cost me around £100 each

I wonder if Ben knows that you can hold the button in on panzer dragoon to lock onto enemies. You don't need to mash the button constantly.

Yeah that's the entire point of the game, the lock on system. You only use the side arm for killing missiles or for enemies right in your face.

PS Had Tekken, whilst VF3 is kinda MEH!. Sorry to break it to you, but ShenMue is over-hyped and boring trash. Also, they are both Dreamcast games. So would not have effected the Saturn's success. Those 2 games went up against PS2; and we know how that killed SEGA as a HW maker. Making, a spot for a Western company and their console: MS/XBoX to launch and flourish. Ending Japanese tyranny on Western gamers

@@rustymixer2886 Dude that is also all highly subjective to you. ;-P So it has the same value as my opposite view to all that. VF3 and ShenMue ran choppy on Dreamcast, they would have been and ran like garbage on Saturn's 2x 2d processors.

@@rustymixer2886 The 3 Shen Mue games have no innovation in. Every one is the same game. Shen mue is a 6/10 game for its generation, with 2, 3 being fan-service remakes of the first game. In all 3 I have still not even accomplished the over-arching quest, set by the 1st game, as it is still not in the game series yet. 'Talk about playing with your belly-button fluff/lint'. 3 reviewed poorly outside of Sega Fan-Boy websites and channels. So it is just not my opinion, it is the majority of game-reviewers.

Did you know that in Panzer Dragoon, When you hold down the fire button, you can lock on to enemies (8 enemies max), and releasing it launches a volley of Homing Lasers?

Back in the days when a port could be rushed and dodgy quality, and still be an innovative best in class because it was the only game in that class. I've been gaming since the Atari Age, and I don't entirely miss those days. Sure, the excitement of the unknown couldn't be matched, but there was also the pain of "paying too much for whatever you could get".

Owned and played them all back in the day. I had a pair of fighting stick and the steering wheel too. Almost got in a car accident running to the to pick it up on its surprise launch day.

The best part of that Saturn commercial is that the lady is holding a CD-R disc with some data burned on it. And of course it's upside down, the label would just say Tesco or something. Even the people who made the commercial seemed unprepared for the consoles launch date.

When I got my SEGA Saturn, it came with three free full games and a demo disc. The free full games were Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop and Daytona USA. The demo disc was the SEGA Saturn Bootleg. I had so many fun times playing VF2 and VC. Wasn't too much into DUSA. My favorite Saturn games of all time are: Mr. Bones, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Virtua Fighter 2, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Gex, Johnny Bazookatone, Radiant Silvergun, D, Die Hard Arcade, Die Hard Trilogy, Marvel Super Heroes, Alien Trilogy, Shinobi Legions, Skeleton Warriors, Burning Rangers, Grandia, Three Dirty Dwarves, Guardian Heroes and Shining Force 3.

I loved my Sega Saturn. Was a full time job defending it in the playground though! I kinda liked the fact it was a bit shitter. Everyone loves an underdog! Top 3 games on the system for me were ; 1 - Nights 2 - Panzer Dragoon Saga 3 - Sega Rally Honourable mention to the weirdest game I've ever played - Mansion of the Hidden Souls.

Mansion of Hidden Souls was garbage lol. Loved my Saturn too, and loved defending it against Playstation on the playground because PS had shit ports of Capcom and other arcade games, and Saturn completely blows the PlayThing away when it comes to 2D gaming, and even some 3d games were better on Saturn. PS was just way overrated for its time.

Got my refurnished, pristine and modded Sega Saturn (it can play discs from all three regions with just the flick of an added switch) in December 2019 as an early Christmas gift to myself. I had always wanted a Saturn as a kid but my brother got a PlayStation and according to my parents, "we only need one console in this house!" I've amassed a small but diverse collection of games, a couple that I paid a pretty penny for but I don't care. I absolutely adore my Saturn - it really helped make the pandemic so much more bearable!

In Panzer Dragoon, you hold the shoot button to charge the lock on lasers, the standard shot is only for destroying incoming fire. Also the game has the single greatest menu them of any game ever

Ah yes, the console that was really good at 2D games that came out when none of the console makers thought people should be playing 2D games any more. Sadly only Sega Japan really eased up on that, Sega America didn't really want to bother with the great 2D fighters that ended up being Japan only.

Love this series, great to see the poor rather unloved Saturn get some shine. Daytona USA still holds up today. Virtua Fighter would be much improved on the Saturn by the sequel. It's not a launch title but Sega Rally was an early release and one of the best games ever to hit the Saturn.

Panzer Dragoon Orta for xbox has the original Panzer Dragoon as an unlockable game, and it's actually still pretty fun! But I am fairly certain I'll never get a saturn now. Games and consoles just keep getting harder to find and more expensive.... I don't regret getting the ps1 back in the day though. Sony really killed it.

Panzer Dragoon Orta is available for Xbox One and/or Xbox Series X. Orta is another great Dragoon game. Also Panzer Dragoon remake is available for all current systems.

Fluge in Panzer Dragon would most likely be pronounced the German way given the German undertones in the game (Flüge actually means flight in German). "e" at the end of German words is pronounced like "uh", think Straße. So it would be pronounced like "Flu gah".

I really enjoyed the saturn when it launched. Many people make it out to be negative. I thought the games were great. Some graphical glitches in Daytona and Virtua Fighter detracted a little bit but I still thought the graphics were good. Panzer Dragoon is one on my favorite games. I had a blast with Daytona and Clockwork Knight. There were some other great games that came out around launch like Astal and Bug. Guardian Heroes came out. Then Virtua Cop with the stunner, etc. It was always a good console with something fun to play. I think the competition from Sony held it back from becoming it's own console in the USA.

One thing Sega knew how to do was make a outstanding soundtracks for games, I will go on record actually they were the best for making soundtracks. Daytona, Outrun, Scud Racer, Streets Of Rage, Power Drive, Sega Rally, Golden Axe all have just great soundtracks.
