In regards to measuring, I'm using thick zip ties cut to the various lengths and color coded..3 inch move, 4, 5, 6 etc..very ezy to see how far who moves and you can even measure around corners easily

Since I will be participating in my first Warcry tournament soon, I have found both of these videos really, really helpful. Thanks for putting in the time to create this content!! Even though I have been playing Warcry for 3 years, I can see how tournament play requires faster play and maybe making a bad move. I hope as a result of your recommendations, I can be a better opponent and help finish games ontime : ) No more ruminating on the perfect move each activation And, I've actually been practicing with a chess clock!

The sad thing about those videos is that I get a specific player in mind. Now I better understand why I didn’t enjoy playing with him.

Another measuring convention I would encourage is the use of proxy bases. It can be much faster than measuring, checking, measuring again, getting agreement etc. It also means that the game is resetable if there's a dispute.

I really like videos like this. Even if you aren't encountering cheaters regularly, this can help players of any experience level set a standard of fair play for themselves.

I really like this video and your other deep dives into wargaming feaux pas. Measuring is such a sticking point and I think you're right when you say "most players make this mistake until it is done to them" in regards to pretty much all measurement fudging. I really like the idea of "confidently make a mistake and analyze later". I usually tell new players "Don't think too hard about it, just do it and we'll talk about it later" with a caveat of "I can give insight if you'd like". Not that I am a wargaming genius, but sometimes talking things out helps.

As someone who played SBGL in his first tournament, I don't think I finished a single game and I still feel bad about it 😂 Granted, I think I also didn't win any of those games, so it's not a huge deal. I do think that it is your responsibility as a player to be able to pilot your team in the time allotted. If you can't, there are the consequences you mentioned. It seems a bit cutthroat, but we have so much time on this earth, I'm not gonna spend it watching some guy stall a Warcry match. This is also why I really love straightforward warbands. You might have a number of dudes, but if you have a good idea of what each of your dudes is gonna be doing in each activation, it's not hard to chew through activations pretty quick.

Lastly, I really like your points about post game conversations. You absolutely don't owe a bad opponent a conversation. Eventually they'll get the hint that folks don't like playing them, and if they're not self aware enough to recognize that, curious enough to ask why, and gracious enough to change their behavior, maybe they shouldn't be playing. I also think that "Sportsmanship" should be a significant, if not majority split of tournament prize money. If you have a community of good players who are bad sports, you will soon not have a community at all. If you have a community of okay players who are great sports, you'll have a thriving and fun community that will grow the game. Plus, people don't want to travel to and pay for events just to have a bad time. Free time is too scarce to be miserable doing something you're supposed to enjoy. I started to write about sportsmanship surveys before I got to the "Sports Scores" segment. I couldn't agree more with the pros and I think I would discount the cons because the real prize is the friends we made along the way. And if you're going to a tournament to win a prize you're doing it wrong. It's not wrong to want to perform well, and it's not wrong to want to win, but I think wanting a prize for it is a bit suspect. No one here is paying the bills with tournament winnings 😂 I think the tough parts about sports scores are how to implement it without making interactions awkward and keeping things relatively objective while still allowing proper recognition of an inherently subjective award. Ultimately it comes down to what the TO wants to reward. If it's primarily competitive play, that's cool. Cool hobbying? Totally understandable? Good sportsmanship? I'm down.

100% agree on the "fudge" section. as with anything, communication is key. it's important to practice humility with your opponent and for both of you to be gracious and have a common understanding of what is and is not a valid move. no matter how cool the move you're about to do would be, if it's a close call and your opponent shows hesitation and you can't without a doubt prove you're correct, then try to enjoy the challenge of finding a new solution!

Hey Dan, thanks for making these videos. Understanding they are high effort low reward so I really appreciate you putting the time in on them. A lot of what you discuss is relevant to any sporting/gaming event, and it's really positive to get a discussion going around dealing with these situations!

Numbering your bases with drops of blood is a nice way to delineate in a thematic way.

for the corners: Cloud I bring extra bases put one down at the corner and measure with my bendy ruler through the middle of it? Heck I could mark the middle of the base.

The angle of measuring and eyeballing it and being off is called a parallax and can really mess you up no matter what you’re doing. Gages, rulers, etc. also, for a video idea: how to make the most of bad factions and lists. How to make them competitive or more competitive.

I really wish people would get more onboard with chess clocks. You don't need to buy a big fancy one - they have phone apps that work perfectly well. I feel like we end up jumping through so many subjective hoops when there can be a clear, obvious and equitable way to divide time. There's this perception that adding a clock to a game makes it less "friendly" but if I know that when my opponent is taking a long time on their own clock, it makes me more agreeable, not less. Warcry is a great game for Chess Clocks because there isn't a bunch of saving throws or things like that which are done in response to another player's actions, so it's very clear whose time the clock should be on.

Think this video is great for a variety of games, not just warcry. I definitely had not been thinking about the optical illusion when measuring above pieces with a clear ruler, though always ask my opponent to verify if some measurement like that seems very close. Guess I should look into some sticks. Flip side, many of my opponents will do the same, or worse, will short themselves distance by holding the ruler at a descending angle. Cutting the corner bit, agree is common but most opponents I have played with will at least short themselves a little arbitrary amount as a cost for going around the corners to keep it fast but respecting the corner.

I don't know, round 3 is usually the most complex one. R1 nothing is on the table, R2 you get reserves so one battlegroup mostly just moves , R3 is usually when most engagements take place in average game of Warcry. R4 is shorter because of losses on both sides. Not sure what the point about R3 was about. I get it in some cases, but unless one side is stomping the other, R3 is usually the decider, and will take most time. How is that a red flag? I'm not even talking about tournament games here, just in general.

I remember the call out from the one vid. It was entirely deserved. The only way cheating stops is when it's exposed.
Let's fix Warcry's most dissappointing fighter profiles.
