I love how Tom demonstrates that no matter how great you play, you still have things to learn.

Lenny is the gold standard, he's my tenor hero. Wish he had more solo records. Tom of course is great too. Thanks for posting this Jay!

What a genuine guy. Not afraid to tell you what his shortcomings were and are, but is the poster boy of what hard work and continued learning can accomplish. His playing has really matured over the years and now i know why. Great job Tom.

Love this - met Paul in seattle last year after he joined Sanborn on stage...it was highlight for me for him to take time to talk to me. My former teacher (RIP) was one who got Lenny his job with TOP back in the day.

“Do the work.” Best part of a really fascinating interview and person. I’m no Tom Politzer but I consider myself a funk and rock player and not a jazz player as well. I really connect with Tom’s playing and approach to his craft.

Thank You, Jay. I love Tom as a person and a player. Regarding the Altisimo... I haven't seen or heard anyone that has control of the Altisimo like Servalor Sax. I know there are others...especially like some classical players today. Anyway....I loved this episode.

TOP is one of my all-time favorites. I first saw them live in the 70's when Lenny Pickett was still in the band, and I've seen Tom play with them during their 50th anniversary tour. TOP is still amazing, and Tom was too!

Cool interview! Tom’s journey is similar to mine in that I started on clarinet at 7 and started playing bari at 16 because stage band needed one. The closest I got to playing for TOP is my friend Jesse McGuire playing trumpet for them. 😂

Hello Mr. James, I recently received an Alto Burnin Mouthpiece and it sounds great. I really want it to keep that way and was wondering if you can take your time to create a video explaining how to take care of it, how to clean it, how to store it etc. If you could that I would be extremely grateful. I have been learning from your videos for a long time and I am excited for the future of the channel. Thank you! 🎷🎼🙏
