For all of Arty's talk of "Protoss is OP" sometimes I feel like he doesn't recognize Toss's power *enough.* What the Toss did in the first game wasn't risky at any point. To be risky it has to be punishable, and the only things that could have punished it are some extreme risk Terran builds, and the Toss had enough scouting info from the zealot rush to know that wasn't coming. Not making the cannons would have been risky, that's what playing risky as Toss looks like. Toss playing like this is just solid.
@goodlearnerbadstudent7562 жыл бұрын
tbf, the carrier tech in game 1 was risky. if arty scanned/push out, the toss would be dead. weird that artosis never thought dt drop would come though. but you are right for the rest i think.
@jackcristo16282 жыл бұрын
@@goodlearnerbadstudent756 That's literally what Arty does, so I assume you mean push out earlier? But before that the Toss has shuttles, DTs, reavers, his small army, and cannons. A push out could work, but Arty would have to outplay, which makes it not risky.
@goodlearnerbadstudent7562 жыл бұрын
@@jackcristo1628 rewatching the game. the risky part i guess is the dt. the carriers switch only worked because arty was too busy dealing with the dt. if he had wraiths and detection to shut it down, yeah, he could push and toss would be dead. cannons+small army+reavers aren't going to stop a a 2 base tanks+vulture push, not to mention, toss skipped goon range(making them suck vs vultures, worst vs tanks. tanks outrange reavers and cannons, and vultures can just shred probes.)
@jackcristo16282 жыл бұрын
@@goodlearnerbadstudent756 When the DTs come in, Arty has 4 tanks and 2 vultures. If he had wraiths and detection, he would have no army to push with. Considering how little damage the DTs did (seems like maybe 4 or 5 SCVs, despite Arty's claim that it did "a ton of damage"), he was probably better off not putting more resources into preparing for the drop. By the time Arty has an actual army to push with, the Toss has carriers and it's over.
@goodlearnerbadstudent7562 жыл бұрын
@@jackcristo1628 no, the "damage" of dt isn't the amount of kills the dt makes, but the potential damage the dt could have made. it basically contained artosis long enough for the carriers to be ready. yes, at the time of the drop, artosis didn't had much of an army, but he was up in economy. even with less units then(1 less tank for wraith), his army grew faster than the toss. at 11min mark, toss had 2 carriers, but they are fresh meaning 0 interceptors. it takes longer than the build time of a carrier to build 8 interceptors the thing is if artosis had deflected the dt drop instantly, he could have scanned to check if it is arbiters/army size. and decide to push earlier at around 11min++, (1 minute before he did in the actual game), the carriers wouldn't have enough interceptors to stop the push.

The opponent instinctively counters standard play. Example being the 'random' feeling of the carrier and dts. It seemed random because of the rigidity of the thinking by artosis. The opponent is probably thinking the opposite 'oh, he's going standard play, I'll just do X or Y'. The 5 zealot counter is the same idea. Perhaps artosis needs to be a bit more random. It seems the pressure of the tournament made him more standard in his play. Thing is he even regognises the opponent is a bit cheesy but didn't adjust. I guess that's how game theory comes into it.

Maybe just hindsight, but against a play like this, wouldn't turrets before scan have been better? In fact, he probably could've just gotten both. Turrets protect his front from DT (in case he managed to sneak past the mines), but also protects his main from drops better. He could still have gotten scans just to verify the protoss' build order to check for the arb, or see if it's carrier. This is worth considering imo, because this protoss did the one thing needed to negate all of his scans, he used a shuttle. I think knowing a protoss is playing this cheesy, you can't assume anything without verifying it. Even a delayed pair of scans would probably have been all arty needed to check for arb/carrier, and if he went scans very soon after turrets (assuming he got turrets as soon as he saw double proxy gate), he could still have comsats up soon enough to know carriers were already up, and either switch to gols, or begin the timing attack muuuch sooner

You should not stop making Marines from your barracks while you're waiting for your factories to build. You'll get up to 7 or 8 Marines by the time your first Vulture comes out. Marines do alright against Zealots and Dragoons in the early game. You need to play much more defensively against better players. Make THEM beat you. Don't beat yourself with hasty mistakes.

Artosis I'm half way through this video and I just watched your other video analysing the reddit comments on your play. After your repelled first push my initial thought is to go onebase agression with a tank - with your superior mobile forces you can basically set up a camp with bunker in front of his natural and cannons. Also with an opponent playing this absurdly cheeky you might have ended up second guessing yourself. Just noticing you saying 100% sure DT, then arbiter rush - I accept it looks that way, but I'm curious to see the rest of the video for the reveal.

Mistake is your mind wasn't zen, and frustrated when a kid practice non-standard builds. He knows gateway units are strong and exploit it for early attack, he wants to get ahead economically, but expects a counter, immediate cannon defense. After defending, he leveraged his expanded economy for expensive unexpected units. DT failed, he went carriers. He did it again 2nd game with dragoons, you expect a transition, no, more dragoons, mass dragoons. He's copying top level GSL mind games. The main question is, is something bothering you personally, emotionally or spiritually? It would affect your game performance and many pros quit because of it. Your mind was all over the place commentating. It's only a game and majority of Korean population see their gamers as improper use of time and mental energy. You're lucky to be born American, Korea has little raw resources so gamers are seen wasting country's currency, electricity, food and "economic profits". Americans spend billions on sports, Korea adults shame younger Korean for watching basketball or soccer on personal time twice a week, even bullied at work (bullying in Korea is widespread issue and tolerated).. Imagine your opponent getting bullied in Korea by almost every adult in his neighborhood. "Wasting energy, lost potential, not beneficial to society, traitor to economy etc etc." It's a conformity group-dependent society while America is "individualistic". American bars are filled with TV screens, with different sports on each. Korean bars are mostly no TV, nobody wants to hear sports. Jocks get bullied, nerds rule (the proper nerds - bankers, engineers and scientists type)... K-pop is filled with feminine boy-bands and transgender looking dancers and country invest billions into it. Feminine boys dancing > football jock. Software programmer > Marlborough "idiotic" cowboy. Korea has the highest suicide rate, surpassing Japan. You're playing kids that study starcraft with calculus II, advanced algebras, differential equations and probability statistics... Average kid in Seoul studies 12-16 hours a day, they're studying the game like a research facility. You must relax and try seeing things from another's perspective.

@Cuddly the Snuggly Plenty of koreatown exist in America, it's almost unheard of finding korean-american pro-gamers. its mainstream society vs middle-class hobby society. NYC "private equity" have more koreans than jewish, Private Equity is few level higher than investment banking. Federal Reserve > Private Equity > Hedge Fund > Investment banking > Commercial Banking. Korean tech and kpop films into American culture wasn't a coincidence..

Artosis is a good player, but he always expect everything by the book (assume DT rush at 9 minutes being late, assuming arbitor rush even though only one gateway/no tribunal) . If an equivalent/higher level goes cheese/do something abnormal, he does not know how to handle it and is almost guaranteed to lose (+ RAGE). He can barely handle a lower level player going cheese from the previous video. Please work on your cheese/unexpected build management!
