I was tearing my hair out that you didn't hit up any shops to upgrade your gear or buy any items. You need to ALWAYS keeping an eye out for statues of the old man from the beginning of the game. There's a move list for all of your available weapons: READ IT! Also, shuriken will save your life when dealing with human sized, non-boss enemies. The stun will give you breathing room and you can animation cancel most of your attacks by throwing them.

Idk if I would start on mentor tho it doesn't get any easier 😭 maybe doing it on hard to learn more of the games mechanics as u go. There is a difficulty above mentor called master ninja. Btw the flying swallon is way easier if you do the a + b jump then y first cuz it makes ryu target someone. You learned a lot tho is cool to see 🔥

Man ninja gaiden is so fun. When you actually master the gameplay, it's very satisfying. Block, dodge, counter, izuna drops, guillotine throws... Patience is key, and using iFrames properly too. Dashing while guarding is better than jumping because of invincibility frames, and being ready to guard after dashing. Honestly bosses are ridiculously easy, regular enemies are way harder.

Quick tips. You can absorb essence on the ground while doing your charge move or "ultimate attack" (UT for short). 1 orb will bring you to first charge instantly and 2 orbs or more will bring you to your full charge. You can skip the wind up animation by holding heavy as soon as you land from jumping. Absorbing essence will not give you any karma (spending money), but if you kill an enemy with an essence charged attack, you get a larger amount dropped from the enemy's you kill. Use your kunai more. Especially on de-limbed enemies and ranged enemies, that's just a general rule we all forget until you get punished for it lol. If you are like me when I started playing, stop holding the directional stick when your fighting. Your attacks are based on proximity not what direction you are pushing in most of the time. Other than moving around and repositioning, your directional should be used for the nessicary combos. It takes a bit to get used too. All weapons are viable. The Dragon sword is the most versitle with a free 4rth level upgrade 3/4 through the story. I also love the dual swords but i dont feel lile there worth it until it also gets level 4 (dual and dragon sword are the only ones that get free 4rth level upgrades) but you dont get the dual swords 4rth level until just before the end of the story.

The best way to manoeuver against bosses to just hold the block button and press any directional move, that's the safest dodge you can do. You not only get s but you are also safe before and after the dodge animation because you're holding the block. because in this fight against the spiders you were always getting hit while using the jump to get away.

The fact that you managed to get through all this without any healing items and missing the Muramasa Shop was crazy LOL You did pretty good, but healing items would have saved you a lot of trouble. Here are some more tips (I'll try to avoid ones made by other comments): You can obliterate enemies in the middle of a combo. The delay on your combo strings is very large, so if you start with a light combo and delimb an enemy, delay your heavy attack slightly to go straight into an obliteration. Check your move list to see what sorts of combos you have in the pause menu. You got it by the end but blue ki charge is your level 1 ultimate and red is your level 2. Don't forget to cancel your jump landings into ki charge if there's floating essence! Ninja Gaiden combat is different from DMC combat in that killing is about being efficient. You can be stylish but it serves no purpose unlike DMC, there's no kill scoring until Chapter Challenge which is unlocked after beating the game. Kill them without mercy or wasted movement. Guarding is strong in Ninja Gaiden, and any attack that does not break your guard can be countered, you can even counter grabs! Use that when you have a read on enemy patterns alongside movement. Light counters and heavy counters also do different things. In relation to guarding: Holding guard prevents you from picking up essence. This can be useful because if you want to use the essence for an ultimate technique, you can move via dodge roll and jump while keeping the guard button held down to prevent yourself from accidentally absorbing the essence. Walls are huge in Ninja Gaiden! Its a bit tough with the camera, but you are invincible when doing an ATTACK off the wall. Depending on the situation both wall run attacks and back flip attacks will save you! Don't just rely on the movement because you are still vulnerable, go on the offensive!

1. Learn to play almost without letting go of the block, enemies catch you leaving the block 2. If you use Jump and Dash in turn, you will start moving much faster 3. Let me tell you what I've learned from my playthrough, I don't know if it helps but here we go. First, when dealing with large amounts of enemies, never stay at one place. If you're being ganged up on, don't try to block and wait for them to stop. Just dodge while you're blocking. Second, I wouldn't recommend you to use the sword until you get the upgrade for it in chapter 14, as it becomes strongen then and until now I felt like the sword wasn't doing enough damange but it could be me bitching about it too. Third, you'll encounter a lot of unfair moves while dealing with bosses but the general strategy I found to be working is to always dodge and attack right at the moment they stop even for a brief of second. Never attack more than you can, don't be greedy. Try to get the perfect dodge, the one that makes the purple effect. Lastly, try to get behind the bosses. That's what usually works most of the time. When you dodge, dodge towards behind them and then attack if you have an opening. These are the tips that I can give you, I'm not a pro at the game or anything, these are just the strategies I developed while playing. If any of them is wrong, I'd love to hear out what is wrong. At the end, I'm trying to improve too. Love y'all ♥

A tip i can give for the claws is to get them to at least level 2 and spam the counter. Level 2 i believe, has a throw combo or 2 that will delimb pretty easily. And abuse the obliteration techniques, higher difficulty aint no joke and Ninja gaiden expects you to play a certain way against enemies 😅

Good game, men. If you like claws, it has op combos against bosses in this game. You should upgrade them to level 2 to unlock these combos. In order to perform combos (and that is a pretty tricky part, that not every one understand, because the game explains how to do combos poorly) you need to start them with pressing light or heavy attack simultaneously with input of direction towards the enemy and then just spam same button. You also need perfom it near the enemy or else it won't work. It's really cool looking and fast combos. I hope this will help you!

Yo a few quick tips if you haven't found it yet but if you pull up ya inventory (Pause Button I believe) and select a weapon you using...hit Triangle and it'll pull up the entire move list for that weapon so you can learn some juicy combo wombos😏 (Some weapon moves are locked because of Lvl 1, 2, and 3) but yea a few moves like: Square+X (At the same time) Does a flip that connects into a Grab and/or a Light or Heavy attack Square-Triangle input is a quick launch that can extend combos (For most weapons some have other combo inputs that lead into QLs as well) Holding Block and flicking the Left analog JUST as the attack lands does a "Perfect Dodge" that has a lil bit of I-Frames so you can get out of getting ya shit clapped😂 Holding Block+Square or Block+Triangle JUST as the attack lands does a "Perfect Parry" and instantly hits or kills the enemy Wall Running+Light or Heavy attack is a good way to deal with large groups and finish off limbless fools so they can't hit you with death blow grabs easy on the ground when fighting another enemies Sorry for the long read but Im a really big fan of Ninja Gaiden games 😂😂 love to see new players trying it definitely just gained a sub

Eventually, if you keep playing and getting better, you will get to a point where you actually skip the save statue, and do 1 or 2 more encounters past it before coming back and using it. Until then, if you are going to continue playing on Mentor, go back after every encounter and save. Really. If you want to be even more optimal, reload if an encounter went very poorly. This is nearly mandatory on Master Ninja your first time. Make sure you get all of the items on bodies and in chests, and spend your essence upgrading weapons at the shop. Try to only use healing items on boss fights, and only 1 healing item, otherwise wipe it (MMO term for die as quickly as possible) and try again. You will be paying yourself forward if you operate this way. I respect Souls players who actually admit that Ninja Gaiden is the actual king of difficult 3rd person action games.

Since you are choosing to continue down this foolish path I’ll have to let you know, this is still just the beginning, it will get nightmarishly hard mid game, ESPECIALLY the woman levels. To make things a bit easier for you, the stick is kinda OP sometimes so for your sanity max it out before upgrading anything else, it’s raw stun power & damage output is insane, & it can cheese some hard bosses (one of which is coming in this level). I recommend that you open the combo menu (triangle button on a weapon in pause menu), the tutorial scrolls that you collected are also in the pause menu, pulling the guillotine throw is a bit tricky but the instructions are there.

Bro you're fucking hilarious lol. If I were to give a few tips it would be how to efficiently use UTs (the charged heavy attack). If you jump and mind you it can be from jumping off a wall or enemy, as soon as your feet touch the ground you can skip the initial startup animation of the UT, if there's essence nearby you'll get an instant charge, if there's 2 essence or a red or blue essence, it'll charge right to full. Something that makes it difficult though is that essence flies to you right away not giving you enough time to farm essence for a full charge but you can actually hold the block button to stall the essence and keep it in place. You can dodge and do a dodge jump while blocking to allow yourself to do the UT tech. Just be aware that absorbing essence for the UT won't give you the benefit of let's say a heal or currency for upgrades. The guillotine throw is done by pressing Square + X to do the initial jump and you press that button combo again when you're close to the enemy, throwing them into a wall will typically do an instant dismemberment. The Izuna Drop is done by pressing Square - Triangle - Square - Square - Square - Triangle. The initial Square - Triangle always launches enemies except for certain ones, you need specific weapons for some of the enemies. Note that the Izuna Drop isn't available for all weapons and might function differently, look at your weapon combo lists. Make use of Shurikens to stun enemies, stall yourself in the air and you can even do a UT after landing on the ground. You can even cancel your light attacks by using them. Yes, there is some lag and lack of responsiveness. These things are new to this version. NGII especially is incredibly responsive, I haven't played Sigma as much (which this is a port of) but I never remember having my dodge not register when I want it to which is something that has happened very often to me in Black.

You all are lucky, this is nothing compared to the original Xbox 360 Ninja Gaiden 2, mentor mode on that was way harder than this. You had to fight the bosses with multiple spider foot ninjas attacking and throwing exploding shurikens at you all at once. Every boss had grunt soldiers fighting with them and they would all relentlessly attack you all at once from every angle while the boss is attacking you. It was absolutely ridiculous, unfair even! And to make it worse that is just mentor difficulty, Master Ninja mode is even harder than that!!!!! Mentor difficulty on this is child's play in comparison.
